7 Athletes ( Swimming , Athletics and Cycling ) from Haryana , Maharashtra , Tamil Nadu , Assam and Karnataka are representing India at the 2019 INAS Global Games in Brisbane , Australia .
The INAS Global Games is the World ‘ s Largest Multi – Sport Event for Athletes with an Intellectual Disability . It is the pinnacle event in the INAS program .
The 5th INAS Global Games is being held in Brisbane Australia from 12th to 19th October , 2019 . The 2019 INAS Global Games is an Australian Government Endorsed Event . The event features 10 sports – Athletics , Swimming , Table Tennis , Tennis , Cycling , Futsal , Rowing , Basketball , Taekwondo and Cricket , Over 1000 World Class Athletes from 55 + Nations . For some athletes , the INAS Global Games is also a Pathway to the International Paralympic Games.
India is represented in the 2019 INAS Global Games by INAS SIVUS INDIA . The journey began at the 1998 Football WorldCup in Leicester , England where the Indian Team of Intellectually Challenged Footballers Won theFairPlay Trophy . INAS SIVUS India is the Official Speaker INAS in India and is affiliated to the Paralympic Committee of India . It is an organisation working for the benefits of Persons with an Intellectual disability .
Sports is the medium / method used to bring about an all – round development in an individual . The objective is to make sport available to all irrespective of an individual ‘ s ability and to be able to make them as independent as possible .
INAS ( International Federation of Sports for Persons With Intellectual Disabilities ) was founded in 1986 and acts as the global governing body for 12 sports and works with the International Federations of sport in 3 Paralympic disciplines – athletics , swimming and table tennis . INAS is one of the founding members of the International Paralympic Committee .
