63 Year RAMESH BABU Sets his 80th Record by Skipping

Bengaluru,5 October, 2019

I am a Retired Metallurgical Scientist (Ph.D. from IISC., Bangalore in 1985). As a hobby I have been setting world records, recognized by various Books of Records. Few of my recent World Records are WR70 24 Min Non- Stop Setu Bhandasana Yoga ; WR67 : 86 Double Throw ball Rallies in 1 Minute, WR66:39 Tennikoit Rallies in 1 Minute ; etc.

I am happy to inform that I have broken the current Guinness World Record in “Most Skips in 30 Sec., Using the Longest Rope of 10m (33 Ft)” and set my 71st World Record. The record was set on Saturday, 5 October, 2019, commencing at 10.00 A.M., at Indian Institute of Science, Gymkhana, Bangalore 560012. I achieved an impressive 32 skips in 30 seconds, in the very first attempt, which is incredibly 6 more than the current Guinness record set by 2 Japanese in 2018 (i.e. 25 % Improvement !!)

The record feat was very tricky as the rope length is nearly 4 times the normal skipping rope length, and it requires very special skills to manage and maneuver the skipping rope rotation without getting entangled. This demands a very strenuous and physically quite challenging extraordinary power to pull the rope, particularly considering my present age of 63 Years. However, I had experimented with nearly a dozen various skipping rope materials and I had been very systematically practicing hard and routinely breaking the present Guinness World Record of 26 skips in 30 seconds, set by 2 Japanese independently. My personal best performance during the practice session was 31 Skips in 30 Seconds which had been video recorded, and with dogged determination today I surpassed even this by one more skip. I am glad to have achieved this feat officially today with 32 skips in 30 seconds.

The success did not come easy. I went through a very rigorous 3 week’s physical training of 5 Hrs a day, which comprised of 1 Hr. skipping practice, 1 Hr. open Gym exercises, 1 Hr. Yoga, 1½ Hr Cycling and ½ Hr. walking, and shredding about 3 KG weight in the process.

The record skipping rope officially measured to be exactly 10.22 m (34 Ft 2.5), and it was prepared by me using 36 feet of Internet cable rope, with about 1 foot folded at both the ends and inserted into 2 handles made of 2″ CPVC Pipes each of 2 Ft length, and the 3 long loops of rope projecting out of the pipes were tightly fastened using insulation tape and tied with satin ribbons and cloth hair bands were inserted over the loop to prevent it from slipping into the pipe handles. The space between the rope and the pipe handles at the other end were tightly stuffed with glassy paper to firmly hold the long rope in position during the rope rotation. The total weight of the record skipping rope prepared as above was recorded to be 330g.

It may be of interest to note that earlier I had set a WR in Fastest Skipping in 1 Min.(270), WR in Fastest Single Leg Skipping in 30 Seconds(88) and also WR in Fastest 100m Skip Running (16.3sec).

The record was officially set following the standard norms set by the Books of Records for such feats, and was witnessed by invited media personnel and few general public. 2 Digital display stop watches and a mechanical counter were used for accurate timing and counting. The entire record feat was professionally video photographed by independent cameras from different angles.

The Authenticating Officials were Prof. K. JAGANNATH, B.E., M.E. retired Professor, MSRIT, Bangalore and adjudicator of several World Records, Kempe Gowda Awardee Mr. GANESH MOKASHI, Senior Journalist & Editor, NERA MAATU, Kannada Weekly Magazine, Bangalore and Mr. B. ASHOK KUMAR, B.A., Graphic & Printing Consultant, Bangalore, who has been the Log-Book Official for more than 15 World Records.

Now, having accomplished the record, the complete set of authentication documents together with video proof will be sent to the various Books of Records, for official recognition.

As the present record practice was in progress, new skipping record ideas have sprung up and very soon I intend attempting to experiment with single leg skipping using 10 m long skipping rope, attempt the more difficult skip run using the 10m long skipping rope, and also try to successfully skip using the world’s longest rope of about 14m (46 feet) length. Notwithstanding this, already, my practice for 1 Hr. absolute non-stop VRIKSHASANAS about 1200) is in progress, and in all probability on Saturday, 26 Oct, 2019, I will set my 72nd World Record!
