
The Kundyolanda family of Kolakeri village near Napoklu is pleased to announce the commencement of the highly anticipated Kundyolanda Hockey Carnival 2024, marking the 24th edition of the esteemed Kodava Hockey Festival. Recognized as the birthplace of Indian hockey, Kodagu holds a distinguished legacy with over 50 Kodava international hockey players contributing significantly to the sport’s heritage.
Inaugurated by Pandanda Kuttanni and his brother Kashi, the Kodava Hockey Festival debuted in 1997 at Karada, hosted by the Pandanda family, attracting an impressive participation of 60 teams, Since its inception, the festival has grown into a grand celebration of Kodava culture and sporting excellence.
Set to commence on March 30 and conclude on April 28, the Kundyolanda Hockey Carnival anticipates the participation of nearly 400 teams in spirited competition. Last year’s record- breaking attendance of 336 teams at the Appachetolanda Family Cup Hockey Tournament established a high benchmark, which the organizers aspire to surpass this year.
Beyond the realm of hockey, the festival serves as a platform for fostering community bonds and preserving Kodava heritage. Families from various regions gather to witness the spirited matches and support their respective teams, embodying the fervour and enthusiasm that characterize Kodava sporting culture.
In addition to the exhilarating hockey matches, the Kundyolanda family has curated a diverse range of events aimed at promoting holistic well-being and enriching the community. Marathon races, matrimonial opportunities, food festivals, health check-up camps, career guidance sessions, and Balopaat training will complement the festivities, transforming the carnival into a multifaceted celebration of Kodava identity and tradition.
Recognizing the diversity of participants, efforts are underway to accommodate newly registering teams by organizing matches exclusively for them, with a minimum requirement of 9 players for teams unable to meet standard regulations. This inclusive approach underscores the festival’s commitment to embracing all members of the Kodava community and nurturing their sporting aspirations.
As the Kundyolanda Hockey Carnival unfolds, it promises to be more than just a sporting event; it is a testament to the passion for hockey, where the Kundyolanda family reaffirms its dedication to preserving tradition, fostering unity, celebrating the timeless spirit of sportsmanship, and community pride.
