The State of Karnataka should Form a gender and sexual minorities Transgender State Welfare Board corporation and allocate 200 cores annually for overall development

The Alliance for Gender and Sexuality Minorities Social Justice is a coalition that includes Jeeva, Jana Seva Samiti, Karnataka Mangalamukhi Sangha, Ondede, Payana, Parivartan Trust, and Swatantra. This group, formed by sexual minorities and leaders from the Sexuality Minorities community in Karnataka, addressing is dedicated to advancing gender equality and advocating for social justice. They focus various social, economic, and political issues in India.

Remember this: The group was launched on July 2, 2024, to commemorate the historic Delhi High a Court decision on the same date in 2009. The 2009 decision overturned the 150-year-old Section 377, legalizing consensual homosexual activities between adults. This landmark judgment was followed by the Supreme Court’s 2018 ruling, which decriminalized consensual sex among adults, affirming that sexual minorities are entitled to the same rights as the heterosexual majority. The Constitution of India guarantees equal fundamental rights and dignity to all individuals..

The Alliance for Gender and Sexuality Minorities Social Justice will work in solidarity and collaboration with various rights groups, as well as the judiciary, legislative, and executive bodies of India and Karnataka state, to bring about social changes and development of advancements for the love, life, and dignity of sexual minorities in the state of Karnataka.

The group demands the following actions from the Government of India and the State of Karnataka to ensure the rights and dignity of sexual minorities:

1)The Government of India should announce the 15th of April as National Transgender Day. 2) The State of Karnataka should Form a gender and sexual minorities Transgender State Welfare Board corporation and allocate 200 cores annually for overall development. 3) The State of Karnataka should implement and execute the Karnataka Transgender Policy – 2017. 4) A census of the sexual minorities’ communities in Karnataka to be done. 5) Implementation of the five guarantees of the Karnataka Government. 6) Recognition of the transgender card as an official document for transgender identities across all departments. 7) Bring reservation in education for sexual minorities.

The Alliance is committed to working towards these demands to create an inclusive and just society for all sexual minorities in India and Karnataka.
