
Bengaluru:India ranks second in the world in silk cultivation, and in recent years, the country has gained recognition not only for silk garments but also for the production of various silk-based products. The government provides support to entrepreneurs in the silk industry, similar to the benefits extended to farmers. There is a huge demand for silk garments and its by-products produced in India, and young farmers and entrepreneurs should take advantage of these opportunities, said MP Shri Iranna Kadadi.
India Will Lead with Modern Technology:
While China ranks first with 52 metric tons of silk production, India holds second place with 39 metric tons. If India adopts modern technology in silk farming and production, similar to China, we will lead the world in silk production, said Smt. Prajakta L. Verma, Regional Assistant Secretary of the Central Silk Board.
These remarks were made during the inauguration of the Seri-Stakeholders Meet, organized by the Central Silk Board at the GKVK Convention Hall in Bengaluru. Dignitaries such as Smt. Prajakta L. Verma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India; Shri P. Sivakumar, Member Secretary, Central Silk Board; Smt. Rachna Shah, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, New Delhi; and Shri A. G. Lakshminarayana Valmiki, MP from Anantapur Constituency, were present at the event.
The event also featured an exhibition of silk by-products, showcasing technological advancements and the future expansion of the silk industry.
