CPRI Celebrates 65th Institute Day

Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), an Autonomous Institute under the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India. The Head-quarters of CPRI is located at Sadashivanagar, Bergaluru CPRI was initially established in Bangalore and Bhopal in the year 1960 and has now spread across other locations in the country with its units situated at Bhopal, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Noida, Kolkata and Guwahati. Two more units of CPRI are coming up near Nashik and Raipur CPRI is presently headed by Shri. B A Sawale, Director General

CPRI is contributing to power sector since more than six decades for both India and abroad. The activities of CPRI are a) Applied Research in Electrical Power Engineering b) Testing & Certification of Power equipment el Consultancy and Field-Testing Services to Power Utilities and Industry d Third Party Inspection and Vendor Analysis and e) Customized Training programs for Utilities & Industries

The Institute has carved a niche for itself and branded as an international accredited testing organization on par with other reputed international test houses for power and electrical industries. It is one of the 12 laboratories in the world approved for short circuit testirig and certification for power equipment. Manufacturers from all over the world find CPRI as a preferable destination for their electrical testing needs conforming to national and international standards CPRI is recognized for certifying electrical equipment for energy efficient operation in accordance with the standards & labelling programme by Bureau of Energy Efficiency, MoP, Govt. of India

CPRI is the forerunner as well as the Nodal Agency of Ministry of Power, Government of India for undertaking research schemes in generation, transmission and distribution sectors of power in India. Progressive developments in projects on innovative technologies like superconducting cables, LED devices, light weight polymer insulators, smart meters, renewables, energy storage devices, smart grids, cyber security, solar photo voltaic are being undertaken in CPRI, catering to the latest developments in the power sector.

CPRI has also singed MoUs with IISc, IITs and other academic organizations in India for collaborative research and development and demonstration of technologies. The Institute has significantly contributed to the Government of India programmes like, “Restructured Accelerated Power Development & Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) and the prestigious “Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyuthikaran Yojana” (RGGVY), Integrated power Development Scheme (IPDS) and other schemes of the Power Ministry The Institute is regularly offering consultancy services, third party inspection and training programmes for electrical utilities and manufacturers both in India and abroad.

CPRI celebrated its 65th Institute Day on 16th January 2025. Shri Srikant Nagulapali IAS, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power, Govt. of India was the Chief Guest for the function. Prof Govindan Rangarajan, Director, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru graced the occasion as Guest of Honor. During the occasion, the 35% Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Lecture titled “Airborne Radars- Indian Scenario” was delivered by Dr. D. Seshagiri, Outstanding Scientist and Director of Naval Physical & Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), DRDO, Kochi Shri BA Sawale, Director General CPRI presided over the function. Sri Swaraj Kumar Das and Sri Sudhakar Reddy. Directors, were present during the function.

A cultural programme was later organized during the function.
