Biocon Foundation Dedicates Metro Pillars Public Art Project to Bengaluru’s ‘Everyday Champions’

Bengaluru, February 12, 2025: Biocon Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Biocon Group, has launched a unique public art initiative to honor the everyday champions of Bengaluru. As part of this project, over 50 Metro pillars along the stretch between Huskur Gate and Biocon Hebbagodi Metro Station have been adorned with vibrant Channapatna art.

Titled ‘Pillars of Bengaluru – Celebrating Everyday Champions’, the initiative showcases illustrations of people from diverse professions, including flower sellers, electricians, tailors, cobblers, doctors, nurses, musicians, research scientists, IT professionals, and aerospace engineers. These individuals represent the backbone of the city and contribute to its dynamic spirit.

Dr. Anupama Shetty, Mission Director of Biocon Foundation, highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating, “Our project ‘Pillars of Bengaluru’ has transformed the Metro corridor into a vibrant cultural landscape. By turning urban infrastructure into an artistic showcase, we aim to instill a sense of pride among citizens while enriching the visual experience of commuters. This project celebrates the true spirit of Bengaluru by honoring the unsung heroes who keep the city running.”

The initiative is a blend of traditional Channapatna artistry and contemporary storytelling, making it a visually compelling tribute to the city’s diverse and hardworking population. The project stands as a testament to Bengaluru’s rich cultural heritage and the contributions of its everyday champions.
