GITAM University, Bengaluru, Inaugurates Robotics & AI Centre of Excellence in Collaboration with Sirena Technologies

Bengaluru, April 17, 2025:
GITAM (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, achieved a significant milestone on Thursday with the inauguration of its Robotics & Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence, established in collaboration with Sirena Technologies. The event also marked the opening of a state-of-the-art Research and Development Centre by Sirena Technologies, the first corporate partner to be embedded within the university campus.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Sri Savyasachi K. Srinivas, Vice President of Engineering at Collins Aerospace, who served as the Chief Guest. In his address, he lauded GITAM’s forward-looking approach to engineering education and emphasized the critical role of such industry-academia collaborations in fostering innovation. “India’s engineering talent needs platforms like GITAM to grow from academic learners to real-world innovators. Centres of Excellence like this will be the catalysts for future aerospace and AI breakthroughs,” he said.

Dr. Errol D’Souza, Vice Chancellor of GITAM University, underscored the significance of the partnership, noting that the collaboration with Sirena Technologies reflects the university’s commitment to applied, interdisciplinary learning. “Together, we are creating an ecosystem where students are empowered to engage with real-world innovation and are prepared to lead in emerging industries,” he stated.

Prof. KNS Acharya, Pro Vice Chancellor of GITAM Bengaluru, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration, calling it a proud moment for the institution. “It is an honour to welcome Sirena Technologies as our first corporate collaborator on the Bengaluru campus. We look forward to many such partnerships in the future,” he said.

The Centre of Excellence is designed to support hands-on learning from the first year of study through to graduation, and complements GITAM’s Robotics & AI programme, which was launched in 2024. The programme has already gained attention for its innovative, interdisciplinary curriculum tailored to meet the evolving needs of the global technology sector.

Prof. Basavaraj K, Associate Dean – Core Engineering and Director of the GITAM School of Technology, Bengaluru, highlighted the renewed interest in foundational engineering disciplines. “We are thrilled to see core engineering regaining momentum. The integration of AI and robotics with traditional engineering has opened new frontiers for our students,” he said.

The global robotics and artificial intelligence market is projected to exceed USD 500 billion by 2030, driven by widespread adoption in sectors such as aerospace, healthcare, manufacturing, and smart infrastructure. GITAM’s strategic investment in this Centre of Excellence is aimed at aligning its academic offerings with these emerging industry demands and producing graduates equipped with the skills required for the future of work.

The event concluded with an expert session on aerospace innovations conducted by Collins Aerospace, followed by internship offer distributions and guided lab visits. With this initiative, GITAM University has reinforced its position as a frontrunner in innovation-driven, future-ready higher education.
