Prema Balakrishnan Named Coordinator of Karnataka Congress NRI Cell.
Bengaluru: The Karnataka Congress has appointed Prema Balakrishnan as coordinator of its NRI Cell, set up by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to safeguard the rights and welfare of Kannadigas living abroad.

The appointment was announced by Dr. Aarthi Krishna, Vice President of the Overseas Kannada Unit and Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council. In her new role, Balakrishnan will oversee outreach and support for Kannadigas in countries including Israel, Germany, Norway, the UAE, Finland, Kuwait, Qatar, Kenya, Tanzania, Canada, Brazil, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, South Africa, Thailand, Malaysia, and Oman.
Top Congress leaders, among them Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar, congratulated her on the new responsibility.
Prema Balakrishnan is the sister of R. Sampath Raj, former Mayor of Bengaluru and current Chairman of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Development Corporation under the state’s Social Welfare Department.
