Kishan R, Preemal J Script Memorable Triumphs at 34th National Tenpin Bowling Championships

Bengaluru: Karnataka bowlers delivered a commanding performance on home turf as Kishan R and Preemal J emerged champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively at the ARC 34th National Tenpin Bowling Championships, which concluded at Amoeba on Saturday.

Former national champion Kishan R reclaimed glory by clinching his second national title in the men’s division after a composed and calculated performance in the championship match. Competing against Akaash Ashok Kumar, Kishan built an early advantage in the opening game, scoring 208 against 191 to take a 17-pin lead.

Maintaining his rhythm, he delivered the highest game of the final round with an impressive 244, while Akaash responded with 238. The Karnataka bowler ultimately sealed the title with a 23-pin aggregate victory (452–429).
Earlier in the stepladder round, Akaash Ashok Kumar had advanced to the final after defeating Shanmugananda by 50 pins (358–308) in the first match. He then continued his strong run by overpowering Dhruv Sarda 476–374, winning by 102 pins to book his place in the title clash.

The women’s division witnessed an equally remarkable story as Preemal J ended Karnataka’s 15-year wait for a national women’s title. Facing top seed Sabina Athica in the championship match, Preemal surged ahead in the opening game with 188, while Sabina managed 168, giving the Karnataka bowler a 20-pin lead. Although the second game was closely contested, Preemal held her nerve to secure a 24-pin overall victory (332–308) and claim her maiden national crown.

Preemal’s path to the final was equally impressive. In the stepladder opener, she defeated Shabeena Kasmani 357–338, winning by 19 pins. She then edged past Anukriti Bishnoi 422–409, a narrow 13-pin win that secured her spot in the championship round.

Several players were recognised with special honours during the tournament. Anirudhan Sanjeevi of Tamil Nadu and Suchita S Kumar of Kerala were named Most Promising Players. Kishan R also dominated the statistics in the men’s division, recording the highest number of scores above 225 (11) and the best six-game block with 1,369 pins. In the women’s division, Sabina Athica led the charts with four games above 200 and the highest six-game block of 1,122 pins.

The week-long championship witnessed intense competition and standout performances, with Karnataka bowlers ultimately shining brightest on their home lanes in Bengaluru.
