Vasan Eye Care Hospital Launches ‘Blue Cataract Day & LASIK Mela’ with Special Concessions from July 25 to 31

Free Eye Screenings & Special Discounts at Vasan’s Blue Cataract and LASIK Week

Bengaluru, July 24, 2025 – In an effort to raise awareness and combat the growing issue of cataract-related blindness in India, Vasan Eye Care Hospital is organizing a special ‘Blue Cataract Day & LASIK Mela’ from July 25 to 31, 2025. The initiative will offer free screenings and exclusive discounts on cataract and LASIK procedures.

Cataract remains a major cause of preventable blindness in India, particularly among people above 50 years of age. Despite progress through national programs aimed at controlling visual impairment, a large section of the population continues to suffer from untreated cataract-related vision loss. Importantly, there is currently no medicine or injection available to cure cataract — surgery remains the only effective solution.

However, many individuals are still reluctant to undergo cataract surgery or even visit eye hospitals for checkups.

Rising Concern:

According to national data:

Cataract blindness affected 3.38 million individuals in 2001

The number rose to 7.63 million by 2020

Cataract surgeries increased from 24,025 per million (2001) to 27,817 per million (2020)

To address this challenge, Vasan Eye Care Hospital will conduct a free eye screening camp for people above 50 years under the Blue Cataract Day program, and for individuals aged 20–40 years under the LASIK Mela.

Key Benefits Offered During the Camp:

Complimentary Eye and Scan Tests, along with pre-operative medicines (worth ₹5,000)

10% Discount on all surgical procedures

15% Discount on optical products

Free Consultations with eye specialists

The hospital also announced that it is empanelled with various State and Central Government Insurance Schemes, enabling eligible patients to avail treatments under insurance cover.

Vasan Eye Care urges all individuals above 50 years and eligible LASIK candidates to make use of this special initiative and take a proactive step towards better vision and eye health.

“Citizens Penalised, But Who Holds the System Accountable?” asks G.S. Gopal Raaj

BENGALURU, July 24, 2025 – “Traffic penalties are swiftly imposed on citizens, but who takes responsibility for the system’s failures?” questioned G.S. Gopal Raaj, Editor of City Today News and Tj Vision Media, while highlighting the increasing frustration among urban commuters over civic and administrative apathy.

He pointed out that while common citizens face steep fines for various traffic violations —

Riding without a helmet (₹1,000),

Illegal parking (₹3,000),

Driving without insurance (₹1,000),

Drunk driving (₹10,000),

Entering no-entry zones (₹5,000),

Using mobile phones while driving (₹2,000),

Lacking pollution certificates (₹1,100), and

Triple-seat riding (₹2,000),

— serious civic failures continue without accountability.

“Pothole-ridden roads, malfunctioning traffic signals, encroached footpaths, unlit streets, stray animals on roads, and garbage-filled drains — all these endanger public safety. Yet no action is taken against the authorities responsible,” Gopal Raaj observed.

He further added, “If a citizen is penalised for failing to wear a helmet, why is there no penalty when a citizen is injured due to an unrepaired pothole? Why does the system remain silent when garbage clogs our roads or when unmonitored stray animals cause road accidents?”

Raaj criticised the lack of accountability among government departments and civic agencies, stating, “Citizens pay taxes, follow rules, and still suffer due to administrative negligence. It appears that only the public is bound by laws — the system seems exempt.”

Calling for balanced governance, he emphasised the need for equal responsibility and legal accountability for public authorities. “True governance demands fairness. It’s time the government and civic bodies are held answerable too,” he concluded.

“The irregularities and corruption within BWSSB will soon be exposed, as evidence of mismanagement and negligence is being closely examined,” said G.S. Gopal Raaj, Editor of City Today News and Tj Vision Media.
