Wonderla Launches Premium Nature-Themed Retreat ‘The Isle’ Near Bengaluru

Bengaluru, June 13, 2025 — Wonderla Holidays Ltd., one of India’s leading amusement park operators, has expanded its hospitality footprint with the launch of ‘The Isle by Wonderla’, a boutique, aqua-themed resort located next to its flagship amusement park on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

Spread over 4.5 acres, the newly unveiled property offers 39 uniquely designed accommodations, including private pool villas, glamping tents, hammock cottages, and starlight rooms. Developed with an investment of ₹39 crore, the resort blends luxury, sustainability, and natural aesthetics to provide an immersive getaway experience for families, leisure travellers, corporate groups, and wedding parties.

“The Isle is not just a hospitality extension but a reflection of evolving guest preferences toward calm, nature-inspired experiences,” said Arun K. Chittilappilly, Executive Chairman and Managing Director, Wonderla Holidays Ltd. “As Wonderla marks 25 years, this launch signifies a strategic evolution — combining entertainment and serenity in a single ecosystem.”

The property features an open-air, multi-cuisine restaurant named ‘Spice Cove’, a poolside bar ‘Oasis’, and a wellness center, Therapy Tree Spa, offering treatments rooted in local traditions. A treehouse suite, pet-friendly zones, temperature-controlled pools, and campfire courtyards add to the resort’s appeal.

Designed by architect Reshma Karmarkar and her team at Design Matters, the resort emphasizes ecological harmony. Key sustainability initiatives include a 31% reduction in lagoon pool water usage, a closed-loop water reuse system, and the transplantation of mature trees from the site to maintain a natural setting.

Dheeran Choudhary, Chief Operating Officer at Wonderla, noted that The Isle offers the charm of a faraway sanctuary while being conveniently accessible from the city. “From glamping to stargazing, every feature has been crafted to foster relaxation and connection with nature,” he said.

Located next to the existing Wonderla Resort — consistently rated among Bengaluru’s best stays — The Isle aims to cater to the growing demand for experiential travel within close proximity to urban centers.

With over 43 million guests served, Wonderla’s latest venture seeks to redefine the leisure and staycation segment in India by combining entertainment, mindfulness, and nature under one integrated brand experience.

TOYO, MODEC Launch Global Engineering Hub in Bengaluru; 750 Jobs to be Created

Bengaluru, June 13 – Japanese engineering giants TOYO Engineering Corporation and MODEC, Inc. have inaugurated their new Global Capability Center (GCC) in Bengaluru, strengthening their global operations and reinforcing India’s position as a strategic engineering talent hub.

The newly established entity, TOYO MODEC OFS India Pvt. Ltd. (OFS India), is a joint venture between Toyo Engineering India Pvt. Ltd. – a subsidiary of TOYO Japan – and Offshore Frontier Solutions Pte. Ltd., part of the MODEC Group. Spread across 100,000 square feet in Godrej Centre, Indiranagar, the facility will support engineering, procurement, and project execution for Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) systems.

Currently staffed with 200 professionals, OFS India aims to expand its workforce to 750 employees within three years, offering high-value job opportunities in offshore energy engineering and support services.

Speaking at the launch, Eiji Hosoi, President & CEO of TOYO Japan, said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to innovation and delivering value through global partnerships. MODEC’s President & CEO, Hirohiko Miyata, emphasized Bengaluru’s strategic importance in driving scalable, high-quality project delivery in a fast-evolving offshore industry.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Mr. Nakane Tsutomu, Consul General of Japan in Bengaluru, who hailed the initiative as a milestone in Indo-Japanese cooperation in the oil and gas sector.
“This investment underscores Japan’s confidence in India’s engineering prowess. Bengaluru, with its deep talent pool, is the ideal launchpad for such high-tech, globally integrated ventures,” said Mr. Tsutomu.

Karnataka to Get Two New Planetariums Aimed at Boosting Science Education

In a major boost to science education and outreach in Karnataka, the Karnataka State Scientific Research Council (KSSRC) has announced the establishment of two permanent planetariums—one at Bharat Scouts and Guides Annie Besant Park in Doddaballapura, and another at Sri Siddhartha College of Engineering in Tumkur.

The announcement was made by Dr. Hulikal Nataraj along with senior members of KSSRC at a press conference held at the Press Club of Bengaluru.

Each facility will house a 10-meter dome with seating capacity for 85 to 100 people, featuring state-of-the-art 4K digital projection technology. The planetariums are designed not only to showcase astronomical wonders but also to include engaging short films aimed at dispelling pseudoscientific beliefs and promoting rational, evidence-based thinking.

Once operational, the centers are expected to host up to 500 students daily—many from government and rural schools. In the first phase alone, the outreach program aims to impact around 1.5 lakh students, introducing many to a planetarium experience for the very first time.

“This is a long-term vision to build a thriving science learning ecosystem in Karnataka,” said Dr. Nataraj. “These planetariums will offer regular science shows, teacher training programs, night sky observation events, and educational content to combat scientific misinformation.”

The initiative is being implemented with CSR funding in the range of ₹2.5 to ₹3 crore per site. The budget will cover construction, projection systems, content development, acoustics, and foundational operations. The council expressed gratitude to its CSR partners for backing a cause that aims to transform communities through science.

A key collaborator in this venture is Bharat Dorne Innovation Pvt. Ltd., a Karnataka-based startup that specializes in immersive planetarium technology and rapid deployment models. Their role is central to bringing high-quality science experiences to both urban and rural regions.

The project has received strong institutional support. Mr. Mohan Kondaji, Commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides, has extended in-principle approval for the Doddaballapura site. Sri Siddhartha College of Engineering has also partnered enthusiastically to host the Tumkur facility.

Both projects will function under a shared operational Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), ensuring co-managed programming, upkeep, and public engagement.

Describing the initiative as more than mere infrastructure, Dr. Nataraj emphasized its role in igniting scientific imagination, especially among children and young learners. “With these planetariums, we’re not just building domes—we’re opening doors to the universe,” he said.

The KSSRC has urged the media to support this outreach effort and help spread awareness of the planetariums’ educational impact across Karnataka.
