BJP Expels Vijayapura MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal for Six Years

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled Vijayapura MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal for six years over repeated indiscipline and anti-party activities. The decision was taken by the party’s central disciplinary committee after Yatnal failed to comply with multiple showcause notices issued earlier.

On February 10, 2025, the BJP’s central disciplinary committee had issued a showcause notice to Yatnal regarding his statements and actions that went against the party’s policies. Despite his response, the committee was not satisfied and found his continued behavior to be a serious violation of party discipline. Following this, on March 26, 2025, the committee announced his expulsion with immediate effect. The order, issued by BJP’s central disciplinary committee secretary Om Pathak, stated that Yatnal was removed from the party’s primary membership and all positions he held within the party.

Yatnal had been openly critical of senior BJP leaders, including BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra and veteran leader B.S. Yediyurappa. He was accused of forming his own faction within the party and holding separate meetings. The BJP leadership had previously issued warnings, but Yatnal continued his public outbursts against party leadership, prompting the final action.

Reacting to his expulsion, Yatnal stated that he was removed for speaking against dynastic politics, corruption, and internal issues within the party. He asserted that this decision would not deter his political fight. Talking to social media, he declared, “The party has expelled me for six years for raising my voice against corruption and family politics, but my fight will continue.”

The BJP’s move is seen as a strong message to other rebel leaders within the party, signaling that indiscipline will not be tolerated.
