GITAM and DATRI Unite to Showcase the Power of Blood Stem Cell Donation

Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, August 28th, 2024 – In a profound demonstration of compassion and medical science, Suman and Jeetender Jain experienced an emotional reunion with Ganapathi Rao, the selfless individual whose blood stem cell donation saved their son Arpit’s life. This inspiring encounter unfolded at a Donor-Recipient Meet co-hosted by DATRI and the Gitam Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR) in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on August 28th, 2024.

Overwhelmed with gratitude, Suman and Jeetender Jain expressed their profound appreciation to Ganapathi, recognising him as a beacon of hope during their darkest hour. “You have gifted our son a second chance at life when all seemed lost. Our family will forever be indebted to your extraordinary act of kindness,” Suman Jain said.

Reflecting on his experience, Ganapathi Rao remarked, “Witnessing the profound joy my donation has brought to this family is truly humbling. It reinforces the belief that even small acts of selflessness can create ripples of positive change.” Ganapathi’s journey to donation was not without its hurdles, as he bravely overcame his fear of needles and even a brief illness during the collection process, showcasing his unwavering commitment to saving a life.

This event underscored the life-saving potential of blood stem cell donation, highlighting how such acts can bridge the gap between life and death for those battling severe blood disorders. The DATRI Donor-Recipient Meet offered a platform for personal connection, fostering deeper community engagement and awareness around the critical need for more donors.

The event’s chief guest, Sribharat Mathukulili, honourable member of Lok Sabha representing Visakhapatnam commended the remarkable recovery from life-threatening blood cancer and acknowledged DATRI’s pivotal role in facilitating such miracles. He said, “Stem cells uniquely self-renew and create various cell types, making them vital for treating blood cancers and saving lives. The process is simple and relatively painless. Donors can easily register with a buccal swab, and the donation itself is similar to giving blood, involving minimal discomfort compared to traditional bone marrow transplants. It was heart-warming to see Mr. Ganapathi Rao, a Vizag-based donor, meeting his recipient, Arpit Jain, a 19-year-old patient suffering from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. In a world often driven by self-interest, let the story of Ganapathi and Arpit remind us that the greatest gift we can give is a part of ourselves.”

Prominent guest Kona Srikar Bharat, an Indian international cricketer who plays as a wicket-keeper batsman for the Indian cricket team, Andhra in domestic cricket, and Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, also attended the event, lending his support to the cause.

Sribharat Mathukulili and Kona Srikar Bharat took a significant step by participating in a swab test to raise awareness about the importance of blood stem cell donation. Their involvement underscored their commitment to the cause and set an example for others, highlighting how simple actions can make a big difference in saving lives.

Aby Sam John, National Operations Head – South, DATRI, shared his heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support in their mission to save lives. He noted, “For countless patients battling blood cancers and disorders, a blood stem cell transplant represents their sole beacon of hope. Dr. Gitanjali Batmanabane, Pro VC of GIMSR, highlighted the importance of such initiatives, stating, “It is incredibly heartwarming to witness a patient triumph over a life-threatening illness, all thanks to the selfless act of a donor. We hope this event will spark greater blood stem cell donation awareness and inspire more people to register as potential lifesavers.”

Ganapathi’s journey began in 2017 when he registered as a blood stem cell donor during a drive at his workplace, a jewellery showroom. The showroom Head, Rana Uppalapati, a staunch DATRI supporter, played a crucial role in encouraging Ganapathi throughout the donation process. Rana remarked, “Witnessing the profound impact of a blood stem cell donation firsthand has been an immense privilege. I urge everyone to contribute to DATRI’s noble cause through donor registration or fundraising.”

The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 300 medical students from GIMSR, many of whom registered as potential blood stem cell donors. This active involvement embodies the spirit of compassion and service that defines GITAM’s educational and ethical values, emphasising the institution’s commitment to societal well-being.

ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಒಳಗೆ ಇರುವ ಬಂಧಗಳನ್ನು ಬಲಪಡಿಸಲು ಹಾಗೂ ಹಿರಿಯರ ಆರೈಕೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸಲಹೆ ಪಡೆಯುವುದನ್ನು ಕೇಂದ್ರೀಕರಿಸಿ, 500 ಜನರು ಅತುಲ್ಯ ಸೀನಿಯರ್ ಕೇರ್‌ ಅವರು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿರುವ  “ಕೇರಿಂಗ್ ಫಾರ್ ಎ ಸೀನಿಯರ್” ವಾಕ್-ಎ-ಥಾನ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು,  ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 2024 –  ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಪ್ಪಿನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸುವ ಸಲುವಾಗಿ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುವುದು  ಹಾಗೂ ಅಂತಹ ಹಿರಿಯರ ಆರೈಕೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಅತುಲ್ಯ ಸೀನಿಯರ್ ಕೇರ್, ಇಂದು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ವಿಧಾನಸೌಧದ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ವೀಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ “ಕೇರಿಂಗ್ ಫಾರ್ ಎ ಸೀನಿಯರ್” ವಾಕ್-ಎ-ಥಾನ್ ಅನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಸುಮಾರು 500 ಹಿರಿಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳ ಉತ್ಸಾಹಪೂರ್ಣ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವಿಕೆಗೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಹಿರಿಯ ನಾಗರಿಕರ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ಮತ್ತು ಘನತೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಪಾದಿಸಲು ಒಗ್ಗೂಡಿದ್ದರು. ವೈವಿಧ್ಯಮಯ ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕರು, ಕಾರ್ಪೊರೇಟ್ ಉದ್ಯೋಗಿಗಳು, ಕಾಲೇಜು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಸದಸ್ಯರನ್ನು ಒಟ್ಟುಗೂಡಿಸಿದ್ದ ಈ ವಾಕ್-ಎ-ಥಾನ್  ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ 6:00 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಗಿ ಅದ್ಭುತ ಯಶಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಕಂಡಿತು ಹಾಗೂ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ‘ಹಿರಿಯರ ಆರೈಕೆ’ ಎನ್ನುವ ಒಂದೇ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡ ಉದ್ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿ ನಡಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ.ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದವರು ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯಿಂದ ಸ್ಮರಣಾರ್ಥ ಟಿ-ಶರ್ಟ್‌ಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ಯಾಪ್‌ಗಳನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ರಮಣೀಯ ಮಾರ್ಗಗಳ ಹಾದಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಡಿಗೆಯ ಪ್ರಯಾಣವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಕೇವಲ ದೈಹಿಕ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಉದ್ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿತ್ತು; ಇದು ಐಕಮತ್ಯ, ಸಹಾನುಭೂತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮುದಾಯ ಮನೋಭಾವದ ಪ್ರಬಲ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನವಾಗಿತ್ತು.  ಹಿರಿಯ ನಾಗರಿಕರು ಎದುರಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಅನನ್ಯ ಅಗತ್ಯತೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸವಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲು ವಾಕ್-ಎ-ಥಾನಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವವರು ಮತ್ತು ನೋಡುಗರನ್ನು ಸಮಾನವಾಗಿ ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸಿ, ಹಿರಿಯರ ಆರೈಕೆಯ ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ನಮಗೆ ನೆನಪಿಸಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿತು.

The potential acquisition of a controlling stake in Religare Enterprises has raised eyebrows in the corporate world. Onboarding a new set of investors does infuse a great deal of goodness, but in this case, the board chaired under the leadership of Dr Rashmi Saluja has raised several alarms. Among the many points raised by the board, the most pertinent one points to the regulatory and corporate-governance standards. Clearly the board has hinted of broader issues requiring onlookers to relook at the corporate history of the acquirer. Failure to do so would have broader implications upon the integrity of India’s financial ecosystem.

 

Finance has remained an alluring if not profitable area of business for countless years. In fact, finance has been the third most-oldest industry after agriculture and trade. In this age of AI, banking, insurance, or any financial service may seem like an easy proposition, but running a financial business is not for the faint-hearted. Besides fulfilling compliance requirements, and meeting regulatory guidelines, businesses have to be on the vigil for any volatilities and uncertainties. Above all, there is a compelling need to constantly watch out for the top-lines and stay ahead of competition. This explains why many corporate houses excelling in other areas such as manufacturing or trade have perished when it comes to operating a financial services firm.

 

A great deal of learning can be assimilated from Marx’s popular quip about history repeating itself – “first as a tragedy, second as a farce.” The banking and financial services industry has had its own share of tragedies and even farces. The 2008 financial crisis was one example of a tragedy but there have been countless financial crises with greater impunity. Pre-2008 examples of crises include a Roman crisis in the era of emperor Tiberius; or the great slump of the 15th century; or the Tulip mania of the 17th century; or the panic of 1785; or a crisis that shook Australia in 1893; or the 1910s post world-war 1 crisis. And while you are it, let us also pay homage to the countless lives ruined by either the great depression or the economic crisis.

 

Acknowledging the perils of a mismanaged financial services firm has therefore prompted policy-makers to tighten the policy-string from any and every financial services firm. In addition to scrutinizing books and compliance reports, regulators also perform periodic check on key management personnel to ensure a safe and fool-proof financial services operation. In fact, the larger society generally refrains from a public discussion of serious matters such as vested interests of acquirers, shoddy management, or bad ethics/principles, etc. The reasons could be risk to life, limb, property, or mental sanity of all degrees. But what the general public murmurs, regulators bring to discussion and ensure only the clean survive.

 

For either the RBI or the SEBI to probe an acquisition is not a difficult task. There’s a plethora of information available through the RoC data as well as FIU-IND investigations which can and have brought out some uncomfortable details. For instance, an FIU-IND investigation has repeatedly shown which NBFCs were mismanaged. The classification is something that even the Finance ministry has acknowledged and appreciated. Analysing this data leads one to the credible answer of a passionately-discussed hypothesis – are they fit to acquire that stake? The analysis also sheds light on the high-risk business and losses accounted to the acquirer in in its past.

 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has established stringent guidelines to ensure that NBFCs operate under clean and robust corporate governance standards. BIS Bengaluru Successfully Hosts Two-Day Capsule Course on Packaged Drinking Water

Bengaluru— The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Bengaluru Branch proudly announces the successful completion of its two-day Capsule Course on Packaged Drinking Water (other than PNMW) held on August 19 and 20, 2024. The program commenced at RG Royal Hotel, Yeswantpur, and concluded at Bisleri International Pvt Ltd, Bidadi, Bengaluru, Karnataka 562109.

The first day of the course featured over 60 industry professionals, including quality control personnel, chemists, microbiologists, and proprietors of packaged drinking water licenses. Shri Vijayaveeran K, Scientist E/Director and Head of BIS BNBO, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the critical role of quality in business success and acknowledging the program as a free capacity-building initiative for quality personnel. He introduced the chief guest, Dr. Anu Appaiah, Retired Senior Principal Scientist and Co-Organizing Secretary from the Food Protectants and Infestation Control Department, CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru.

Dr. Appaiah addressed key industry challenges, including the issues of misleading mineral labeling, the need for replacing NaCl with KCl to address hypertension, and environmental concerns related to plastic usage. Shri C.R. Rajendra, Former Director of BIS, provided valuable insights into BIS’s quality maintenance activities and its role in fostering a quality-driven ecosystem. Shri Piyush Kumar Gupta, Scientist B/Assistant Director, BIS BNBO, discussed certification processes, including license grants, renewals, and guidelines for addressing unsatisfactory visits and sample failures, alongside detailed discussions on IS 14543 and related standards.

The second day of the course took place at Bisleri International Pvt Ltd, featuring an in-depth practical demonstration of the plant’s operations. The practical session provided participants with valuable insights into the operational aspects of the plant, enhancing their understanding of Packaged Drinking Water IS 14543:2024 requirements.

Feedback from attendees highlighted the exceptional organization of the course and the usefulness of the comprehensive course materials booklet provided. The participants appreciated the program’s role in improving their operational knowledge and acknowledged BIS’s commitment to advancing industry standards through such educational initiatives.
