Bengaluru, September 30, 2025: The Karnataka High Court has directed strict enforcement of noise control measures during the upcoming Madikeri Dasara celebrations, taking cognizance of concerns over the use of DJ systems, laser lights and other polluting devices.
The directive came in response to W.P. No. 30005/2025 (GM-RES-PIL) filed by advocate Amruthesh N.P. The Court noted that the Kodagu District Superintendent of Police had already prohibited such activities and stressed the need for continuous monitoring in line with the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.
The Bench further ordered the Superintendent of Police and the District Environment Officer to submit a compliance report by October 13, 2025, detailing the conduct of the festivities, reporting any violations, and outlining actions taken against defaulters.
The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on October 16, 2025. The order is being viewed as a major step towards protecting public health, safeguarding the environment, and reinforcing citizens’ rights under Article 21 of the Constitution.
