QNet HongKong enters into collaboration with Rotary to distribute 500 Oxygen Concentrators across India. At a well attended virtual launch on Monday 7th June 2021, E- Commerce Company QNet Executive Chairman, Hong Kong , Richard Zinkiewicz, in the presence of Rotary International President Elect Shekhar Mehta , announced QNet’s decision to send 500 Oxygen Concentrators to Rotary District 3190, Bangalore, for national distribution. The first consignment is expected in 7 to 10 days.
Rotary Dist 3190 , with assistance from Rotary Clubs across India,will put these concentrators to use free of cost for the most needy patients in several cities and villages across the country. Core values of QNet are represented by the acronym RYTHM(Raise Yourself To Help Mankind). District Governor Nagendra Prasad B.L. thanked QNet and said the much needed concentrators were a big boost to Rotary’s commitment to fight the war against COVID.
NEW DELHI, 3 June 2021: The World Health Organization today convened a meeting of member countries and health partners to discuss strengthening of collective efforts to control COVID-19 spread.
“Several countries continue to experience high transmission. We are still very much in the acute phase of pandemic. We must continue to aggressively respond, using all tools at our disposal,” said Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director, WHO South-East Asia, opening the ‘South-East Asia Partners’ Meeting on COVID-19’.
For five consecutive weeks, the Region reported rapid surge of COVID-19, registering over 2 million new cases.
Lives and livelihoods are at stake, as is the sustainable development of a Region that is home to over 2 billion people – one-fourth of the world’s population. It is only through solidarity, and by sustaining Region-wide resolve, that we can drive infection down, prevent new waves, and bring evidence-based treatments and technologies to all who need them, the Regional Director said.
“There remains a clear and ongoing need in all countries of the Region to strengthen health system capacity, including access to critical supplies such as oxygen,” she said.
To fill those gaps, WHO in recent weeks provided over 340 metric ton of essential medical supplies worth over US$ 50 million and continues to mobilize more, she said and emphasized on the need for equitable distribution and availability of equipment and supplies.
WHO is committed to increasing supply chain resilience, including through local manufacturing to secure equitable access to therapeutics, diagnostics, personal protective equipment (PPE) and other supplies.
On COVID-19 vaccine equity, the Regional Director said this demands extraordinary action and global collaboration. While the development of COVID-19 vaccines has been exceedingly fast, the supply cannot currently meet demand. This has resulted in a slowing down of vaccination in several countries, including those reliant on COVAX vaccines.
WHO will continue to support all countries to implement evidence-based public health and social measures; to enhance social and economic protections; and to maintain equitable access to essential health services – a core priority from the beginning of the response, which requires sustained and scaled up support.
Lauding the partners, Dr Khetrapal Singh said their support has enabled WHO implement a comprehensive, coordinated and sustained response.
With assistance from partners, WHO in the Region has been able to deliver over 2.2 million sample collection kits, 1.9 million manual PCR tests, 2.1 million gloves, 7 million medical masks, more than 500 000 gowns, and more than 600 000 respirators since the start of the pandemic.
This is in addition to their support to the South-East Asia Regional Health Emergency Fund which is being used to fund emergency preparedness as well as response measures in the Region.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from ministries of health, ambassadors, UN Regional Directors, UN Resident Coordinators, representatives from International Financial Institutions and Development Banks; members of the Red Cross Movement, GAVI the Vaccine Alliance, and The Global Fund; members of international NGOs, philanthropic foundations and partners.
“To all partners, my message today is one of steadfast solidarity, and steely resolve: Together, we must stay the course and see this challenge through,” the Regional Director said reiterating WHO’s commitment to collaborate and coordinate to end this pandemic.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ಕೋವಿಡ್ ನಿಂದ ಪೋಷಕರನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ದುಃಖದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗಿಯಾಗಿ, ಅವರ ನೆರವಿಗೆ ನಿಲ್ಲುವುದು ನಮ್ಮ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ. ಅಂತಹ ಮಕ್ಕಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಾವಿದ್ದೇವೆ ಎಂದು ಮಹಿಳಾ ಮತ್ತು ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ಇಲಾಖೆ ಸಚಿವರಾಗಿರುವ ಶಶಿಕಲಾ ಜೊಲ್ಲೆಯವರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕೋವಿಡ್-19 ನಿಂದಾಗಿ ಪೋಷಕರನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಅವರನ್ನು ಪಾಲನೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಪಾಲಕರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಗೂಗಲ್ ಮೀಟ್ ಮೂಲಕ ವಿಡಿಯೊ ಸಂವಾದ ನಡೆಸಿ, ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸಾಂತ್ವನ ಹೇಳಿ, ಆತ್ಮಸ್ಥೈರ್ಯ ತುಂಬಿ, ಅವರ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ನೋವು, ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮನಗಂಡು, ಸರ್ಕಾರದಿಂದ ನೀಡಲಾಗುವ ನೆರವಿನ ಕುರಿತು ಮಾಹಿತಿ ನೀಡಿದರು. ರಾಜ್ಯದ ವಿವಿಧ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತಂದೆ ತಾಯಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡ 19 ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಸಚಿವರು ಸುಮಾರು ಮೂರು ಗಂಟೆಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಮಗುವಿನ ಜೊತೆಗೂ ವಯಕ್ತಿಕವಾಗಿ ಚರ್ಚೆ ನಡೆಸಿ, ತಂದೆ ತಾಯಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಪೋಷಕರ ಕಷ್ಟಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಪಡೆದರು. ಕಷ್ಟದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಧೃತಿಗೆಡದೆ ಜೀವನದ ಸವಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸಿ ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ ಗಣ್ಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುವಂತೆ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಸಚಿವರು ಕಿವಿ ಮಾತು ಹೇಳಿದರು ಈ ಕುರಿತು ಮಾತನಾಡಿರುವ ಸಚಿವರು ಪೋಷಕರನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಆ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ನೋವು ಕಂಡು ಮನಸ್ಸು ಭಾರವಾಯಿತು. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಇಂತಹ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪೋಷಕರು ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬ ಕೊರಗು ಉಂಟಾಗಬಾರದು ಎಂಬ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸೂಕ್ತ ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳಾದ ಬಿ.ಎಸ್. ಯಡಿಯೂರಪ್ಪ ಅವರು ‘ಬಾಲ ಸೇವಾ’ ಯೋಜನೆಯನ್ನು ಘೋಷಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸರ್ಕಾರದಿಂದ ಸಿಗಬೇಕಾಗಿದ್ದ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಅತೀ ಶೀಘ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಮುಂದೇನಾದರೂ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಗತ್ಯ ನೆರವು ನೀಡಲು ಸರ್ಕಾದ ಸದಾ ಸಿದ್ಧವಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ: ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಘೋಷಣೆ ಮಾಡಿರುವ ಬಾಲ ಸೇವಾ ಯೋಜನೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಪ್ರತಿ ಗ್ರಾಮ ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ತಲುಪುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಲು ಎಲ್ಲ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು. ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಜಾಲತಾಣ ಹಾಗೂ ಇತರ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಒದಗಿಸಲು ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ತಂದೆ ತಾಯಿ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಘೋಷಣೆ ಮಾಡಿರುವ ಮಾಸಿಕ 3500 ರೂ. ನೀಡುವುದು. 10 ವರ್ಷದ ಒಳಗಿನ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣಕ್ಕೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ವಸತಿ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸುವುದು ಹಾಗೂ 21 ವರ್ಷ ಪೂರೈಸಿರುವ ತಂದೆ ತಾಯಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ 1 ಲಕ್ಷ ರೂ. ಸಹಾಯಧನವನ್ನು ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಅವರ ಅಕೌಂಟ್ ಗೆ ತಲುತಲುಪಿಸಲು ಇಲಾಖೆಯಿಂದ ಎಲ್ಲ ರೀತಿಯ ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಈ ಯೋಜನೆ ಅನುಷ್ಠಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ರೀತಿಯ ಮಧ್ಯವರ್ತಿಗಳ ಹಾವಳಿಯಾಗದಂತೆ ಕ್ರಮ ವಹಿಸಲು ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಸಚಿವರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ರಕ್ಷಣಾ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನಾಲಯದ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕಿ ಪಲ್ಲವಿ ಆಕೃತಿ, ನೋಡಲ್ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳಾದ ಮೋಹನರಾಜ, ವಿವಿಧ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳ ಡಿ.ಸಿ.ಪಿ.ಓ. ಹಾಗೂ ಸಿ.ಡಿ.ಪಿ.ಓ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಹಾಜರಿದ್ದರು.

June 1st, 2021: In what could be termed as the first ever made in India, Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) kits, doctors at Amrita Hospitals in collaboration with AMMACHI Labs, the academic and research centre at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, have designed and developed extremely affordable kits for frontline workers right from the scratch. This is also another step they have endeavoured to take towards realising the dream of Atmanirbhar Bharat in the healthcare sector.
Till very recently, all the PAPRs in the country were imported at a price of over Rs. 1 lakh each. With the problem becoming acute during the pandemic, the availability of protection equipment became scarce. Amrita Hospitals and AMMACHI Labs launched the product jointly in January this year. PAPR, a protection equipment technology used for supplying purified air to medical professionals working in infection prone areas such as COVID wards, are extremely valuable in preventing healthcare workers from contracting infection and disease from the aerosolized virus particles. PAPRs are generally safer, more comfortable to use, and reusable as compared to normal PPEs with N95 masks. Because of their exorbitant costs, they haven’t been widely used in developing countries like India. Amrita Hospital’s goal is to develop a low-cost solution that meets all the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) standards while making these widely available across India and the world at affordable prices.
Dr. Bhavani Rao R., Director, AMMACHI Labs who is overseeing the entire project, said, “PAPRs have been inspired by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi or Amma’s vision and guidance encouraging teams at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham to convert the challenges of the pandemic into several world class innovations. The product has been developed by the initiative and ingenuity of scientists, doctors and engineers from several Amrita institutions coming together for one single cause – dealing with the pandemic with cutting edge and social innovations. PAPRs have the potential to help people not just in the medical field but from all walks of life, thereby creating a tangible impact on society. Once all the feedback and design improvements have been incorporated, our PAPRs will be productized and marketed by Omnex Inc. Unlike commercial PAPRs costing anywhere between Rs. 70,000 – Rs. 1,50,000, our PAPR will cost less than Rs. 30,000 per kit.”
Omnex Inc., an international consulting, training and software development organisation specialises in managing system solutions that elevate performance of client organisations. Commenting on the product roll-out strategies, Arun Kumar, Vice President, Omnex Global said, “Omnex Inc. has planned a usability study with 20 PAPRs by medical professionals at AIMS. Based on the feedback from medical professionals, the product will be fine-tuned and scaled up for production. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Omnex Inc. will also be applying for certifications for the PAPR product. Currently, work is in progress for gathering data for pre-certification testing requirements for NIOSH approval for US markets. We are also exploring requirements for field testing in an accredited lab of NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories).”
Amrita PAPR for medical professionals uses an H14 grade HEPA filter with more than 99.995 percent and not only weighs less at 1.4 kg, but the air flow is also more at > 10 CFM, it is less noisy as motor/blower operational noise – ≤ 68 dBA at ear and the battery pack lasts about 10-14 hours. In comparison 3M PAPR weighs 1.78 kg the air flow is slower at High Flow Nominal of 8 CFM, operating the motor is noisier at ≤ 75 dBA at ear and the battery lasts for less amount of time approximately 7-19 hours (TR-630 7-12.5 hours; TR632 10.5-19 hours). The lower noise of the battery makes communication easier.
