Cambridge Students Across India Shine in June 2023 Exam Series Students from across India receive Cambridge International AS & A Level / IGCSE & O Level exam results

Bangalore, 17th August 2023 – Thousands of students in India have received the results of the Cambridge International June 2023 exam series over the past week. Cambridge IGCSE and O Level exam results are released today, following the release of Cambridge International AS & A Level results on 16 August. These results mark the end of an important phase of their lives and ready them for their next step in the world, whether in work or continuing their studies.

Cambridge International, a not-for-profit organisation, part of the world-renowned University of Cambridge and the world’s largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications for 3 to 19 year olds, has released the results of its June 2023 exam series to over half a million students worldwide, including nearly 9000 in India.
This year saw Cambridge International’s largest exam series to date, with 1.7 million entries for Cambridge exams across 5,600 schools in 147 countries. An increase of 11% on June 2022. Despite the challenges of the pandemic over the past few years, students in India have been able to gain the qualifications they need to take their next step, which is proof of their hard work and the continued support of their schools, teachers, families, and communities.
In total, there were almost 32,000 entries for Cambridge IGCSE, O Level and International AS & A Level exams in the June 2023 series in India, a rise of 4% since June 2022. More than 4300 students in India took Cambridge IGCSE and O Level exams, with English, Physics, and Mathematics being the most popular subjects. Over 4500 students in India took Cambridge International AS & A Level exams, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics being the most popular subjects.
Cambridge International holds three exam series each year in India, enabling schools to choose the series that best fits their students’ needs. The March series is the largest, however June is also a popular choice for schools.
On the June 2023 exam series, Rod Smith, Group Managing Director, International Education at Cambridge, said: “I congratulate Cambridge students for their hard work in achieving these results. They have shown great resilience over the past few years and have kept on moving forward with their education. With these qualifications our students can feel confident that they have developed the skills they need for the future, so they can embrace whatever opportunities lie ahead.
“I also want to thank Cambridge schools and teachers, who once again have displayed tremendous commitment and passion for education that has been core to their students’ success.”
Mahesh Srivastava, Regional Director, South Asia, Cambridge International said: “Through the dedication of students, the unwavering commitment of educators, and the enduring support of families and communities, the journey of Cambridge students in India continues to inspire and we congratulate all students on their remarkable results. As we celebrate their achievements in the June 2023 exam series, we recognise that these results not only reflect academic excellence but also the resilience that empowers them for the future. Together, we pave the way for students to shape their destinies with confidence and seize the boundless opportunities that lie ahead.”
Like other exam boards, Cambridge International has been moving the standard of Cambridge qualifications back to the pre-pandemic standard of 2019 in gradual steps. This year’s standard has returned to the standard of 2019, and the impact of the pandemic has been taken into account when setting the grade boundaries. This means a student who would have achieved a grade A before the pandemic will be just as likely to get a grade A in 2023.
More than 600 schools across India offer Cambridge programmes and qualifications to their students. The Cambridge Pathway curriculum offers flexibility and choice to students and schools, with over 70 subjects available at Cambridge IGCSE and over 55 subjects offered at Cambridge International AS & A Level.

Examinations to be conducted only for final semester studentsIntermediate semester students to be promoted

Highlights:
Applicable only to Degree, Post-graduation and Diploma students
Applicable only to academic year 2019-20
Students to be passed based on academic performance
Final semester students to face exams in September

Bengaluru: In a significant move to safeguard students in view of the prevailing Covid19 pandemic, the State Government has taken a decision to promote all intermediate semester students pursuing degree & post-graduation courses including engineering, and diploma courses for the academic year 2019-20 without examinations. Further, the Government also announced that examinations for the final semester students would be conducted before the end of September 2020, as per UGC guidelines. The Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka has given his assent for the same.

The Government has taken this decision after consulting educationalists and university vice chancellors, taking into consideration students’ health, well being and future. UGC guidelines have also been duly taken into account. Announcing this, DyCM & Minister of Higher Education Dr Ashwath Narayan CN added that the decision will be limited to the academic year 2019-20 only.

“Covid19 has disrupted the education system – classes could not be held on time. Online learning introduced during the lockdown has received good responses and the Government promptly tried its best to reach the last person in the chain. Amid these, the Government mulled on conducting offline classes and examinations too, but owing to increase in the viral spread those thoughts have been dropped and it has been decided to pass & promote all intermediate semester students. Concerned Universities have been intimated to conduct examinations for all the final year/semester students” Dr Ashwath Narayan added.

How to pass & promote?
“Intermediate semester students will be assessed based on a comprehensive evaluation scheme with internal assessment marks and previous year’s/semester’s marks considered in a 50:50 ratio. For students in their first semester/year, the evaluation will be completely based on internal assessment marks”, Dr ACN explained.

“If students feel to better their scores, provisions will be made for them to face examinations during the next semester and students who fail to succeed in the comprehensive evaluation process shall face examinations for respective subjects during the next semester. Backlog subjects will be allowed to carry over as well”, DyCM further added.

Why conduct examinations for final semester students?
“Final semester exams will be conducted with due consideration given to students’ academic evaluation and their future lives. Academic evaluation forms the core of the higher education system and hence academic performance of students needs to be considered. Companies too will base their assessments on an individual student’s academic excellence and grades he/she secured. Thus, it would be pushing the students to danger in the future if examinations were not to be conducted now. In this regard, all universities have been informed to prepare themselves and make suitable arrangements for the conduct of final semester examinations”, DyCM corroborated.

Online classes to begin from September 1, 2020:
“Online classes for the academic year 2020-21 will begin from September 1 and offline classes from October 1. All universities and affiliated colleges have been directed to make suitable arrangements in that regard, already”, said Dr ACN.

DCM Quote:
Covid19 has jolted the education system. The cardinal concern the Government had was to safeguard the future of our student friends while keeping them away from contracting infections and keep them in good health. This decision has been arrived at after thorough consultations with academic experts and University VC’s.

800 students appear for 2nd PU exam in a safe & healthy environment at CMR National PU College

CMR National PU College, one of the centres for 2nd PUC Board examinations in Bengaluru, today accommodated 800 students by following all social distancing guidelines and implementing health and safety protocols. Among the largest examination centres, each examination hall accommodated a max 20-24 students depending on the space availability.

Preparations began a month ago to sanitize the entire building with touchpoints starting from school gates to the desks and benches.

Ms. Angel Paul, Principal, CMR National PU College, said, “Students with face masks were allowed inside. For students who had forgotten to bring their own mask, we provided them with a mask. Students were also provided with sanitizers while our college staff wearing protective face masks and gloves assisted them and guided the students to their examination halls. A medical team was also deployed at the examination centre for any kind of emergency. Visually challenged children also appeared for the examination with the help of scribes. We are happy that we could live up to the expectations of the students and parents.”

The college had conducted several rehearsals, which helped the administration in ensuring that the examinations were conducted without any hitch. Outside the examination centre also, the college had taken steps to prevent crowding. They ensured that social distancing was followed by the students and parents by barricading certain areas.
