ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ದೇಶದ ನಗರ ಜೀವನಶೈಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಅಹಿತಕರ ಆಹಾರ ಪದ್ಧತಿಗಳು ಜೀರ್ಣಾಂಗ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆ, ಕೊಲೊರೆಕ್ಷ್ಯಲ್ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಕುರಿತ ಅರಿವು ಇನ್ನೂ ಕಡಿಮೆಯೇ ಇದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಹೊಸ ಸಮೀಕ್ಷೆಯಿಂದ ಬೆಳಕಿಗೆ ಬಂದಿದೆ.

Merck Specialities Pvt. Ltd ಬೆಂಬಲದೊಂದಿಗೆ 14 ಪ್ರಮುಖ ನಗರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಸಿದ ಜೀವನಶೈಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಜೀರ್ಣಾಂಗ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಸಮೀಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 25ರಿಂದ 65 ವರ್ಷದ 10,198 ಮಂದಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ಸಮೀಕ್ಷೆ ಜನರು ಜೀರ್ಣಾಂಗ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳ ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ ಹಾಗೂ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ನೆರವು ಪಡೆಯುವಲ್ಲಿ ತೋರಿಸುವ ವಿಳಂಬವನ್ನು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟಪಡಿಸಿದೆ.
ಸಮೀಕ್ಷೆಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಅಜೀರ್ಣ, ಆಮ್ಲತೆ, ಮಲಬದ್ಧತೆ ಮುಂತಾದ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳಿಗೂ ಸುಮಾರು 80 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಜನರು ವೈದ್ಯರನ್ನು ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸದೆ ಸ್ವಯಂ ಔಷಧೋಪಚಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಮೊರೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. 65 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಮಂದಿಗೆ ಅಸಮಂಜಸ ಮಲಬದ್ಧತೆ ಕಂಡುಬಂದಿದೆ. ವಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಕನಿಷ್ಠ ಮೂರು ಬಾರಿ ಹೊರಗಿನ ಅಥವಾ ಪ್ಯಾಕೇಜ್ಡ್ ಆಹಾರ ಸೇವಿಸುವವರು ಅರ್ಧಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು.

ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ 40 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಯುವಕರು ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷಿಸುವ ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತಿ ತೋರಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಮಲದಲ್ಲಿ ರಕ್ತ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್‌ನ ಆರಂಭಿಕ ಲಕ್ಷಣವೆಂಬ ಅರಿವು 80 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದು ಆತಂಕಕಾರಿ ಅಂಶವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ 937 ಮಂದಿಯನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡ ಸಮೀಕ್ಷೆಯ ಫಲಿತಾಂಶಗಳು ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಚಿಂತೆ ಹುಟ್ಟಿಸುವಂತಿವೆ. ಮಲಬದ್ಧತೆ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳಿಗೆ 85.5 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಜನರು OTC ಔಷಧಿ ಅಥವಾ ಜೀವನಶೈಲಿ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳನ್ನೇ ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಕೇವಲ 14.5 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಮಂದಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ವೈದ್ಯರನ್ನು ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ 61.4 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಮಂದಿಗೆ ಅಸಮಂಜಸ ಮಲಬದ್ಧತೆ, 81 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಮಂದಿಗೆ ಅಪೂರ್ಣ ಮಲವಿಸರ್ಜನೆ ಅನುಭವ, 80 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಮಂದಿ ನಿಯಮಿತವಾಗಿ ಹೊರಗಿನ ಆಹಾರ ಸೇವನೆ ಕಂಡುಬಂದಿದೆ. 47 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಮಂದಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ನಿಯಮಿತ ವ್ಯಾಯಾಮ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ, 36 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಮಂದಿ ತಂಬಾಕು ಬಳಕೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ. ಗ್ಯಾಸ್ಟ್ರಿಕ್ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳಿಗೆ 88 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಮಂದಿ ಸ್ವಯಂ ಔಷಧೋಪಚಾರ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಮಲದಲ್ಲಿ ರಕ್ತ ಕಂಡರೂ 26 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಮಂದಿ ವೈದ್ಯರನ್ನು ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸದೆ ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಬಹಿರಂಗವಾಗಿದೆ.
ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ, ನೋವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಗಂಭೀರ ಜೀರ್ಣಾಂಗ ರೋಗಗಳು ಇರಬಹುದು ಎಂಬ ಅರಿವು 77.8 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದು ಸಮೀಕ್ಷೆ ತೋರಿಸಿದೆ.

ವೈದ್ಯರ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆ
ಸಮೀಕ್ಷೆಯ ವಿವರಗಳನ್ನು ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಪತ್ರಿಕಾಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ವೈದ್ಯರು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡರು.
ಡಾ. ಸುರೇಶ್ ಬಾಬು ಎಂ.ಸಿ ಅವರು, “ಕೊಲೊರೆಕ್ಷ್ಯಲ್ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಪೊಲಿಪ್‌ಗಳಿಂದ ಆರಂಭವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆರಂಭಿಕ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲೇ ಪತ್ತೆಯಾದರೆ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯ,” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಡಾ. ಮಂಸಿ ಖಂಡೇರಿಯಾ ಅವರು, “ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷಿಸುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ವೈದ್ಯರನ್ನು ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಳಂಬವೇ ತಡವಾದ ನಿರ್ಣಯಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ,” ಎಂದು ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಪಟ್ಟರು.

ಡಾ. ಆದಿತ್ತ ಮುರಳಿ ಅವರು, “ಅಹಿತಕರ ಆಹಾರ ಪದ್ಧತಿ, ವ್ಯಾಯಾಮದ ಕೊರತೆ ಮತ್ತು ತಂಬಾಕು ಸೇವನೆ ಇಂತಹ ಜೀವನಶೈಲಿ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸಗಳು ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಅಪಾಯವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಆರೋಗ್ಯಕರ ಜೀವನಶೈಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ನಿಯಮಿತ ತಪಾಸಣೆಗಳಿಂದ ಅಪಾಯವನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡಬಹುದು,” ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.
ಒಟ್ಟಾರೆ, ಜೀರ್ಣಾಂಗ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವೆಂದು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಬದಲು ತಕ್ಷಣ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಸಲಹೆ ಪಡೆಯುವುದು ಅತ್ಯಗತ್ಯ ಎಂದು ತಜ್ಞರು ಒತ್ತಿಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

SPARSH Hospital treats industrial fire victims with coordinated emergency response

Bengaluru: Five persons who sustained critical burn injuries in an industrial fire at a textile design printing unit on Mysore Road on Saturday evening were treated at SPARSH Hospital, RR Nagar, reflecting the hospital’s preparedness to handle high-acuity, mass-casualty emergencies.

Hospital sources said the injured were initially stabilised at a nearby facility before being shifted to SPARSH Hospital within the crucial “golden hour”. The victims had suffered extensive burns to the face, hands and back, while one patient also had severe inhalation injury affecting the airway.

On receiving prior intimation, the hospital activated its mass-casualty and burn management protocols. Intensive care beds were readied and a multidisciplinary team was mobilised within minutes. A rapid assessment ensured availability of resources for prolonged critical care, including specialised nutritional and metabolic support essential in severe burn cases.

The treatment was led by Dr Gunasekar Vuppalapati, Senior Consultant in Plastic Surgery, along with Dr Deepak K L. The team comprised intensivists, anaesthesiologists, critical care specialists, trained burn nurses, nutritionists and physiotherapists. A total of 21 nurses were deployed in rotational shifts to ensure continuous one-to-one monitoring of the patients.

Over the next few hours, the team carried out coordinated emergency interventions and initiated individualised burn care for each patient. One of the patients with severe inhalation injury required emergency intubation and advanced airway management.

“Severe burns are life-threatening and demand immediate, structured care. The first 48 hours are critical, with focus on airway stabilisation, fluid balance, temperature regulation, infection control and nutritional support,” Dr. Vuppalapati said, highlighting the risk of complications such as immune overreaction, metabolic instability and hypothermia.

Four patients were stabilised and later discharged in a stable condition, while one patient was shifted to another hospital at the request of family members.
Dr Ranjan Shetty, Group Medical Director, said the incident underscored the importance of institutional preparedness, experienced clinical leadership and integrated ICU systems in managing multiple critical cases simultaneously.

Group CEO Jasdeep Singh said emergency readiness was central to the hospital’s functioning, supported by scalable critical care infrastructure and standardised response protocols across its network.

Hospital authorities added that the RR Nagar facility remains equipped to handle complex emergencies, with dedicated systems for advanced burn care and coordinated critical care delivery.

“Airbound–Narayana Health Plan Citywide Medical Drone Network”

Bengaluru, March 17, 2026: In a significant step toward transforming urban healthcare logistics, Narayana Health and Airbound have successfully completed a large-scale drone-based medical delivery pilot in the city, demonstrating faster and more reliable transport of diagnostic samples.

The pilot, operational since January, connected Narayana Health’s Chandapura clinic with its central laboratory at Narayana Health City via a 4-km aerial corridor. The route, completed in just 10 minutes per trip, significantly reduced transit time compared to conventional road transport often delayed by Bengaluru’s traffic.

Over 54 consecutive days, the initiative recorded more than 700 drone flights, each carrying up to 40 diagnostic samples, with zero delivery failures. The system supported up to 20 flights daily, replacing the earlier model of three to four batch-based road transfers. Within weeks, road transport was phased out entirely, enabling continuous sample flow to laboratories and quicker diagnostic turnaround for patients.

According to Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, the initiative highlights how technology can reduce healthcare costs while improving efficiency. By overcoming logistical barriers, the model supports centralised diagnostics, allowing hospitals to deliver faster and more accessible care.

Encouraged by the results, the partners are now planning an expanded drone corridor linking Electronic City with Banashankari, subject to regulatory approvals. The upcoming hospital in Banashankari is expected to play a key role in the next phase.

Airbound CEO Naman Pushp noted that the pilot proves aerial logistics is already viable in dense urban environments. The companies aim to scale operations across Bengaluru and eventually to other cities, including Kolkata.
The initiative also opens doors for smaller clinics to access advanced diagnostic infrastructure without heavy investment, potentially reshaping healthcare delivery across urban India.
