Call for Younger Leadership in Vice-Presidency: Dr. Kiran Jeevan’s Open Letter to President and PM

New Delhi: In a thought-provoking appeal, educationist and social worker Dr. Kiran Jeevan has urged the nation’s top leadership to consider younger candidates for the post of Vice-President of India. In an open letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dr. Jeevan questioned the long-standing convention of reserving the Vice-Presidency for senior or retired leaders, often determined by political considerations.

“The Vice-Presidency is not merely a constitutional office but also a symbol of India’s democratic spirit and aspirations. Why should it always be seen as a retirement post? Why not open it to younger leaders with vision and passion to serve the nation?” he wrote.

Pointing out that nearly two-thirds of India’s population is below the age of 35, Dr. Jeevan argued that appointing a younger Vice-President would send a historic signal of trust in India’s youth. “Such a move would bring fresh energy, innovative ideas, and strengthen democratic institutions,” he stated.

While acknowledging the wisdom and service of elder statesmen, he emphasized that the time had come to create avenues for younger leaders at the highest levels of governance. “Just as our elders were once trusted in their prime, so too should today’s generation be given the chance to shape India’s destiny,” he said.

In his letter, Dr. Jeevan also expressed his own willingness to serve if deemed worthy, citing his experience in education, public service, and social engagement. However, he clarified that his appeal was not personal ambition but a larger call for progressive change in India’s approach to leadership.

India’s First Indigenous CAR T-Cell Therapy Achieves Two-Year Remission in Blood Cancer Patients

Immuneel Therapeutics’ Varnimcabtagene autoleucel (IMN-003A) sets new survival benchmark for aggressive B-cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma

Bengaluru, August 9, 2025 — In a breakthrough for Indian oncology, Immuneel Therapeutics has reported the country’s first known long-term remission in patients treated with a homegrown CAR T-cell therapy. Seven patients with aggressive blood cancers have crossed the two-year progression-free survival (PFS) milestone — a first for India.

The therapy, Varnimcabtagene autoleucel (IMN-003A), was evaluated in the IMAGINE Phase 2 trial for adult patients with relapsed or refractory CD19-positive B-cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (B-NHL), one of the most aggressive blood cancers with limited response to standard treatment.

CAR T-cell therapy, globally considered a game-changer, has been out of reach for most Indian patients due to high costs and complex logistics. Immuneel’s success demonstrates that advanced, next-generation treatments can be developed and scaled within India while achieving globally comparable outcomes.

Key Clinical Results

First Long-Term Survivors in India: Seven trial participants have surpassed two years without disease progression, showing durable remission.

Strong Response Rates: IMN-003A achieved an 83% overall response rate (ORR) at Day 90, 50% ORR at Day 365, and an 83% complete response rate, setting new benchmarks for Indian CAR T trials.

National Scale-Up: More than 50 patients across leading hospitals have now been treated, with consistent outcomes and a favourable safety profile.

Government-Backed Research: Supported by a BIRAC grant under the Department of Biotechnology’s BIPP scheme, the trial reflects strong national endorsement.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Co-Founder & Board Director, Immuneel Therapeutics, said:
“This achievement validates our mission to make world-class cancer therapies accessible and affordable. Long-term survivors from a Made-in-India CAR T therapy prove the transformative power of local innovation.”

Amit Mookim, CEO & Board Director, Immuneel Therapeutics, added:“Crossing the two-year survival milestone highlights India’s capability to deliver durable, next-generation treatments. Our priority remains expanding access and impact.”

With sustained results in over 50 patients, Immuneel’s work signals a new era for Indian cancer care — one where high-impact therapies are developed in India, for both domestic and global needs.

Vaidyuthi Mobility Unveils Gully100 — India’s First Licence-Free Electric Cargo Vehicle for Urban Delivery

Bengaluru, August 6, 2025 — Vaidyuthi Mobility has launched the Gully100, a revolutionary electric three-wheeler designed for urban delivery drivers who hold only a standard two-wheeler licence. This marks a significant shift in India’s urban mobility landscape, as the Gully100 is the first vehicle in its category to leverage recent regulatory changes that no longer require a commercial LMV-3 licence to operate electric three-wheelers.

The vehicle aims to address a long-ignored gap in the logistics sector: the mid-load range (50–400 kg), where current options are either too small or unnecessarily large and costly. Delivery companies have often resorted to overloading bikes or underutilizing autos. The Gully100 offers a purpose-built, efficient alternative for this segment.

A key advantage is driver accessibility. By allowing two-wheeler licence holders to operate the Gully100, Vaidyuthi Mobility expands the eligible driver pool, easing a major constraint for fleet operators. This move also creates new employment opportunities for gig workers and delivery partners.

Under the hood, the Gully100 features a dual-motor system that delivers enhanced torque and traction, especially when fully loaded. The vehicle’s Breathe & Adapt™ suspension — developed in-house — automatically adjusts to uneven urban terrain, potholes, and shifting cargo weight, ensuring smoother and safer rides. Vaidyuthi claims the Gully100 also features the most spacious cabin in its class, built to support long delivery shifts.

Safety has been given top priority. Features like Tilt Guard, an active swing arm, and an electronic differential enhance stability, particularly during sharp turns or on rough roads. These innovations aim to reduce fatigue and improve control during long hours of driving.

“This is one of the safest and most affordable electric three-wheelers we’ve built,” said Hari Vasudevan, Co-founder and CTO of Vaidyuthi Mobility. “We didn’t just build for cost — we engineered the Gully100 for Indian delivery realities: harsh roads, unpredictable loads, and extended work hours.”

Designed for flexibility, the Gully100 will be available in both cargo and passenger variants, and comes with fleet integration capabilities, such as remote diagnostics, app compatibility, and a modular chassis for multiple use cases. The vehicle also qualifies for central and state-level EV subsidies.

According to the company, the Gully100 provides a compelling solution for logistics businesses in sectors like e-commerce, FMCG, and kirana delivery, helping them cut operational costs without needing more heavily licensed drivers or oversized vehicles.

“We’re not just launching an electric vehicle — we’re introducing an entirely new category,” said Raj Kumar, CEO of Vaidyuthi Mobility. “The market has long been stuck between vehicles that are either too small or too big. The Gully100 fits right in the middle — where the real demand is.”

Pre-orders for the Gully100 open in October 2025, with deliveries set to begin in November. Customers can explore specifications and configurations at http://www.vmev.in.
