Hotels Turn to Induction Cooking as Fuel Costs Surge; Industry Seeks GST Relief

Bengaluru, April 7, 2026: Amid rising fuel prices triggered by escalating tensions in West Asia, the hospitality sector is increasingly exploring alternatives to conventional cooking fuels. At a press conference held at the Press Club on Tuesday afternoon, industry representatives called on the Centre to promote the adoption of induction-based cooking systems and consider reducing GST on such equipment.

With concerns mounting over potential shortages of LPG, hotels and food service businesses are facing operational challenges. Disruptions in supply following geopolitical developments have already led to scarcity in several regions, placing significant pressure on commercial kitchens.
In response, Lorman Kitchen Equipments has introduced a modern commercial induction cooking system that, according to the company, can reduce cooking costs by up to 60% compared to traditional LPG usage. The system also offers added benefits such as preventing blackening of utensils and ensuring easier maintenance of kitchen hygiene.

Addressing the media, Director Dr. S.N. Chandramouli noted that hotels, restaurants, resorts, and cloud kitchens across the country remain heavily dependent on LPG. However, recent global developments have exposed vulnerabilities in this reliance, affecting both efficiency and continuity of services in commercial kitchens.

He emphasised that induction technology provides a practical and efficient alternative, significantly reducing dependence on LPG. With minimal heat dispersion, the system also creates a safer and more comfortable working environment for kitchen staff.

Additionally, induction-based cooking systems are energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, and allow precise temperature control, helping maintain consistent food quality. The technology is adaptable across various scales—from small eateries to large industrial food production units.

When implemented scientifically, the system can lead to substantial savings in fuel expenditure. Compared to traditional LPG-based kitchens, the company claims that up to 60% cost reduction is achievable.

Lorman Kitchen Equipments specialises in turnkey solutions for commercial induction kitchens, including design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning. Dr. Chandramouli added that the current fuel challenges should be seen as an opportunity for the hospitality industry to modernise its kitchen infrastructure and adopt more sustainable practices.

Apollo workshop flags gaps in vertigo diagnosis, calls for structured clinical approach

Apollo Hospitals hosts specialist workshop to improve vertigo diagnosis and care

Bengaluru, April 4, 2026: Amid growing concern over the rising incidence of vertigo and balance disorders in India, Apollo Hospitals convened a focused clinical workshop to address gaps in diagnosis and management.

Medical experts note that vertigo, though common, remains under-recognised and frequently misdiagnosed. An estimated 15% to over 20% of adults experience dizziness or vertigo each year, with prevalence peaking among those aged 55 to 64. Despite this, the condition is often trivialised, leading to delayed diagnosis and, at times, failure to detect serious neurological or ENT-related disorders.

The workshop brought together neurologists, ENT specialists and general physicians from India and abroad in a hands-on, case-based format aimed at strengthening clinical evaluation skills. Sessions emphasised structured history-taking, bedside assessment of vestibular and ocular motor functions, and systematic approaches to identifying the underlying causes of vertigo.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Suryanarayana Sharma PM, Senior Consultant Neurologist and Stroke Specialist, observed that over 70 million people in India suffer from vertigo, of which nearly 74% are benign. “However, recognising red flags and distinguishing serious neurological or ENT conditions is critical. This calls for a multidisciplinary approach, and dedicated vertigo clinics are becoming increasingly important,” he said.

Dr. Sunil Narayan Dutt, Senior Consultant and Clinical Advisor in ENT, highlighted the importance of practical training. He stressed that hands-on sessions and real-case discussions help physicians build confidence, particularly in high-pressure clinical settings with limited time and resources.

Adding an international perspective, Dr. Michael Strupp, a globally recognised expert in vestibular disorders, underscored the importance of accurate classification of vertigo into peripheral, central and functional types. “Many vertigo conditions are now highly treatable. The key challenge lies in making the correct diagnosis early through structured clinical evaluation,” he said.

Experts also pointed to the increasing association of vertigo with broader neurological and post-viral conditions, adding complexity to diagnosis and management. The workshop concluded with interactive case discussions and an open forum, allowing clinicians to refine their diagnostic approach in complex scenarios.

With cases rising due to ageing populations, lifestyle factors and increased awareness, specialists emphasised that improving diagnostic accuracy at the first point of care is essential to ensure better outcomes and avoid unnecessary investigations.

Bengaluru Becomes Hub of Orthopaedic Excellence at BOSCON 2026

BOSCON 2026 spotlights future-ready orthopaedic care in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, April 4, 2026: The 29th annual conference of the Bangalore Orthopaedic Society (BOSCON 2026) concluded in the city with a strong focus on advancing evidence-based, patient-centric orthopaedic care, bringing together leading surgeons, academicians and young clinicians for two days of intensive academic engagement.

Organised by the Bangalore Orthopaedic Society,  The two-day conference commenced on April 4 and will conclude on April 5. at The Koramangala Club. The event marked a significant gathering of experts from across Karnataka and neighbouring states, reflecting the growing momentum in orthopaedic innovation and education.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Dr. Shantharam Shetty, Pro Chancellor, Pro Chancellor – NITTE University, Past IOA President, as the Guest of Honour, marking a prestigious start to the conference.

Centred on the theme “Keeping PACE in Orthopaedics: Evolving with Evidence,” the conference underscored the importance of Practical Academic Case-based Education (PACE), emphasising real-world clinical decision-making anchored in scientific validation.

The scientific programme featured subspecialty sessions, complex case discussions, expert-led panel debates and orations recognising pioneers in the field. Dedicated platforms were also provided for postgraduate students and early-career surgeons, fostering academic exchange and mentorship.

Key deliberations highlighted the increasing role of robotics, artificial intelligence, biologics and minimally invasive techniques in orthopaedic practice. Experts, however, stressed that the integration of such technologies must remain guided by ethical considerations and robust clinical evidence.

“Orthopaedics is at a defining juncture, balancing a rich legacy with rapid technological progress. The real challenge lies in adopting innovation responsibly, ensuring it translates into better patient outcomes,” said Dr Subodh Shetty, President of BOS.

Echoing this, Dr Shantharam Shetty noted that orthopaedic practice must evolve as a blend of art and science, aligning clinical expertise with evidence-based medicine rather than being driven by commercial interests.

BOSCON 2026, participants said, reinforced the need for continued academic collaboration and knowledge-sharing to shape the future of orthopaedic care, as the field undergoes rapid transformation driven by technology and research.
