Gramin Patrakaar Association Prioritizes Safety and Dignity of Journalists: Devi Prasad Gupta

Bengaluru:
The Gramin Patrakaar Association is committed to upholding the safety, dignity, and rights of journalists across the country, especially those working in rural areas, said National President Devi Prasad Gupta at a press conference held at the Bengaluru Press Club.

Addressing a gathering of journalists and media representatives, Gupta emphasized the crucial role of the press in India’s development. “Journalists have always been at the forefront—be it during the freedom movement or the ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. Today, their contributions are central to building a ‘Developed India’,” he said.

He highlighted the association’s inclusive approach, stating that both rural and urban journalists deserve equal respect and representation. “Our aim is to provide a strong, unbiased platform where journalists from all backgrounds can raise their voices and be heard,” he added.

Gupta noted that two-thirds of content in print and electronic media originates from rural journalists. Despite this, they often go unrecognized. “Since its formation, the Gramin Patrakaar Association has worked to protect the dignity and rights of these vital contributors to Indian journalism,” he said.

Praising the role of rural India in national progress, he said, “India’s economic and social strength comes from its villages and small towns. Journalists from these regions play a vital role in shaping narratives that matter.”

He expressed pride in the association’s expansion into Karnataka, a state known for its contributions to India’s cultural heritage and technological growth. “Joining hands with Karnataka’s journalists will mark a major step forward for us,” he said.

Speaking on challenges faced by the media industry, Gupta pointed out the growing influence of corporate interests. “In this era of increasing media commercialization, the credibility of journalism is being questioned. We must focus on truthful and constructive reporting,” he urged.

The event concluded with a note of gratitude to the Bengaluru Press Club. “We are thankful for the opportunity to connect with our fellow journalists and share our vision for a stronger, safer press community,” Gupta said.
