Tonsillitis is an extremely common infection among individuals of all ages often characterized by acute pain or severe throat irritation. Their function at the back side of the human throat supports the body’s immune apparatus by representing a first level of protection against pathogens. However their continuous contact with infectious factors renders them easily prone to inflammatory responses leading to tonsillitis. It ranges from slight discomfort to severe pain, and it can quite adversely affect daily activities such as speaking, swallowing, or even sleeping.



What is Tonsillitis?

Tonsillitis is the inflammation of tonsils caused by infection or irritation. It often occurs during winter seasons since respiratory infections are more common at such times. Dry air and overcrowded indoor places easily make one fall victim to these. Low levels of immunity also make one prone to these. Some common allergens causing throat irritations are dust, and molds.



Causes of Tonsillitis

Tonsillitis is usually attributed to viral and bacterial infections though environmental irritants cause it in many cases as well. Most common causes

1. Viruses

2. Bacteria

3. Environmental Factors



Signs of Tonsillitis

The symptoms can range from mild to severe; they include;

·      Red, inflamed tonsils, with patches that might be white or yellow.

·      A sore throat and difficulty in swallowing.

·      Fever, pain in the body, and fatigue.

·      Swollen lymph nodes in the neck

·      Bad breath and dehydration due to severe cases



Tonsillitis Diagnosis

In diagnosing tonsillitis, healthcare providers use a clinical examination like-

·      Throat Swab Test: To test and examine the presence of a bacterial infection.

·      Blood Tests: For diagnosis in case of mononucleosis or other conditions.



Treatment

The treatment options for tonsillitis usually depend on the cause involved.

1. Viral Tonsillitis: Rest and hydration are encouraged. Pain relief with over the counter drugs. The symptoms are treated as an outpatient with home measures such as gargling saltwater.

2. Bacterial Tonsillitis

Treatment will be an oral antibiotic course to eradicate the infection.

3. Chronic or Recurrent Tonsillitis

Tonsillectomy; removal of the tonsils may be required, especially in a patient who suffers recurrently.



When to see a Specialist?

It’s best to visit an ENT specialist, especially when complications such as an abscess, difficulty breathing, or dehydration occur.

The ENT specialist can advise on customized treatment plans, alleviate the discomfort of the patient, allow for recovery and prevent tonsillitis attacks.

Early diagnosis and proper treatment is the right management of tonsillitis. In this regard, some preventive measures and care are as follows:

– Hygiene must be maintained through frequent hand washing to reduce the transferring of infections.

– Patients should avoid close contact with others who are showing the symptoms of respiratory infections.

– Proper diet and hydration must be taken to develop immunity.

ಹಾಕ್ಕೋತ್ತಾಯಗಳು :

1. ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಅಥವಾ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಕಾಲೇಜುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ಪಡೆದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಅರ್ಹ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ದೊರೆಯುವಂತೆ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿಲಯಗಳ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕಟ್ಟಡಗಳ ವಿಸ್ತಾರವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಬೇಕು.

2. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿವೇತನ ಪಡೆಯಲು SC/ST ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಪೋಷಕರಿಗೆ ನಿಗಧಿಗೊಳಿಸಿರುವ ಆದಾಯಮಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಬೇಕು. ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿವೇತನ ಹಾಗು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ ಧನವನ್ನು ದ್ವಿಗುಣಗೊಳಿಸಬೇಕು. ಸಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ವಿತರಿಸಬೇಕು.

3. ಹಾಸ್ಟೆಲ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ದಿನಭತ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ದ್ವಿಗುಣಗೊಳಿಸಬೇಕು.

4. ಹಾಸ್ಟೆಲ್ ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕ ಸುಸಜ್ಜಿತ ಮತ್ತು ಸರ್ವಸೌಲಭ್ಯವಿರುವ ‘ಓದುವಮನೆ’ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯ ಮತ್ತು ಧ್ಯಾನಮಂದಿರಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಬೇಕು.

5. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಪೋಕನ್ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ತರಗತಿಗಳು, ಕೆರೀರ್ ಗೈಡೆನ್ಸ್, ಪ್ರಮಾಣೀಕೃತ ವೃತ್ತಿಪರ ತರಬೇತಿಗಳು, ವಿದೇಶವ್ಯಾಸಂಗದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅರಿವು, ಸ್ವಯಂ ಉದ್ಯೋಗಕ್ಕಿರುವ ಅವಕಾಶಗಳು, ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಾತ್ಮಕ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳಿಗೆ ತರಬೇತಿ ಮುಂತಾದವುಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಬೇಕು.

6. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಕಿಯಿರುವ SCSTOBCಗಳ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಬ್ಯಾಕ್ ಲಾಗ್ ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳನ್ನು ಭರ್ತಿ ಮಾಡುವುದು, ಹೊರಗುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯನ್ನು ರದ್ದುಗೊಳಿಸಿ ಖಾಯಂ ಉದ್ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುವುದು.

7. ಬಾಬಾಸಾಹೇಬರು ಬೌದ್ಧಧಮ್ಮ ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಿ 70 ವರ್ಷಗಳಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸ್ಮರಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಬೌದ್ಧ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ನಿಗಮ’ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿ ಕನಿಷ್ಠ 500 ಕೋಟಿ ಹಣವನ್ನು ಮೀಸಲಿಡಬೇಕು.

S. SCSP/TSP ಹಣದ ಸದುಪಯೋಗಕ್ಕೆ ತೊಡಕಾಗಿರುವ 7ಡಿ ಕಲಂ ಅನ್ನು ರದ್ದುಗೊಳಿಸಿ, SCSPTSP ಮೊತ್ತದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿವರ್ಷ ಕನಿಷ್ಟ 25% ಹಣವನ್ನು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಬಂಧಿ ಕಾಯ್ದಿರಿಸಬೇಕು.

9. ಭಾರತ ಸಂವಿಧಾನಕ್ಕೆ 75 ತುಂಬುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಂಭ್ರಮದ ಸ್ಮರಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂವಿಧಾನಶಿಲ್ಪಿ ಬಾಬಾಸಾಹೇಬ್ ಡಾ.ಬಿ.ಆರ್ ನಾಮಕರಣ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು. ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು

10. ರಾಜಧಾನಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಫ್ರೀಡಂಪಾರ್ಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಬಾಸಾಹೇಬರ 150 ಅಡಿ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಯನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿ ಅದರಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ವದರ್ಜೆಯ ಬೃಹತ್ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯವನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಬೇಕು.

11. ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ತಜ್ಞ ಮಹಾತ್ಮ ಜ್ಯೋತಿಬಾಫುಲೆಯವರ ಜನ್ಮದಿನವನ್ನು ‘ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ದಿನ’ ಎಂದು ಘೋಷಿಸಿ ಆಚರಿಸಬೇಕು.

12. ಮೀಸಲಾತಿ ಜನಕ ಛತ್ರಪತಿ ಶಾಹುಮಹಾರಾಜರ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ IAS, IPS, KAS ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳ ಬೃಹತ್ ತರಬೇತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರವನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಬೇಕು.

ಮೇಲಿನ ಹಾಕ್ಕೋತ್ತಾಯಗಳನ್ನು ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರೈಟ್ ಯೂತ್ ಫೆಡೆರೇಷನ್ ನ ಮುಖಂಡರುಗಳ ವತಿಯಿಂದ ಪ್ರೆಸ್ ಕ್ಲಬ್ ಆಫ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಪತ್ರಿಕಾ ಗೋಷ್ಠಿ ಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಳಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.

Karnataka State Construction Workers Central Union (KSCWCU), is an independent registered trade union, working for the cause of the Building and other Construction Workers across the State for more than 43 years. KSCWCU has a membership of more than 84,800 and it is affiliated to National Centre for Labour (NCL), a Confederation of Independent Labour Organizations at the National level and with the Building and Wood Workers International (BWI), a Global Federation of Building and Wood Workers Unions at the International level.

As one of the founding members of National Campaign Committee on Central Legislation for Construction Labour (NCC-CL) in the year 1985 under the leadership of Late Justice VR Krishna lyer KSCWCU played a pivotal role in drafting a separate bill for the welfare of Construction Labour and presented it to the Rajya Sabha petition’s committee with Ten Lakh signatures of construction workers across the Country. Through its continuous struggles, Lobbying and advocacy efforts, two separate legislations were passed by the parliament in the year 1996 viz. The Building and other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Condition of Services) Act 1996 and “The Building and other Construction Workers Welfare CESS Act 1996

After the introduction of the Central Act in the year 1996, KSCWCU had organized many struggles, lobbying and advocacy efforts for 10 years to pressurise the State Government had framed the Rules and Regulations for the Central Act. On 1-11-2006 Government of Karnataka announced the formation of Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board and on 15-2-2007, the Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board was established and started functioning Since 2007, three times the Union representatives were nominated as Members of the Welfare Board and have given their immense contribution in starting various welfare programmes for the registered workers and increasing the benefits through struggles. As on today the registered workers are eligible for 19 benefits from the Welfare Board.

Most unfortunately, the two Central Legislations which have provided welfare and relief to the millions of construction workers have been repealed by the Government of India by introducing the four Labour codes. In the near future this may result in closing of welfare boards. Construction workers who have already registered in the Welfare Board should register themselves again in the E-shram portal. Anyone can register in the E-shram portal without any valid verification. The CESS amount collected through the Welfare Board (Rs. 7,500/- Crores in Karnataka Board) and Rs.1 Lakh Crore in all the Welfare Boards in India will be used to provide Social Security for more than 40 Crore Unorganized Labour in India.

KSCWCU strongly opposes this move of the Government India, suggests that for the Unorganised Workers separate sectoral boards should be constructed, CESS should be collected and a budgetary allocation of 3% to 5% should be added to the CESS to provide Social Security to more than 40 Crores unorganized workers in India.

Expressing our discontent and demanding the restoration of BOCW acts 1996, No to transfer of welfare board funds to E-shram portal, increasing the pension amount from Rs.3.000/- to Rs.5,000/-, extending ESI facilities etc., KSCWCU is organizing a State Level Convention on 26th Dec 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Townhall at J C Road, Bangalore to pressurize the State Government to pass a resolution in the assembly for the restoration of BOCW Acts 1996.
