Citizen Power vs Central Control: Bengaluru NavaNirmana Party Pushes Area Sabhas, Targets 50 Wards

Bengaluru NavaNirmana Party Challenges Centralised GBA Governance, Launches Mission 50 for Citizen-Led City Administration

Bengaluru, January 16, 2026:
The Bengaluru NavaNirmana Party (BNP), India’s first city-centric political party, on Thursday strongly questioned the Greater Bengaluru Authority’s (GBA) centralised model of governance and proposed empowered Area Sabhas as the most effective and democratic framework for Bengaluru’s long-term development. The party also announced its Mission 50 campaign for the upcoming GBA elections, expressing confidence of winning at least 50 wards to influence policy-making and institutionalise neighbourhood-level accountability.

Positioning itself as a governance-first alternative to traditional political parties, BNP said its leadership comprises civic activists, urban professionals, entrepreneurs, and grassroots organisers committed to practical, citizen-driven solutions. The party believes securing 50 wards will provide the critical strength required to drive decentralised decision-making within the Corporation.

At the heart of BNP’s Mission 50 is the revival of Area Sabhas, as mandated under the 74th Constitutional Amendment, which the party says have been systematically weakened or ignored by successive governments.

Founder and General Secretary Srikanth Narasimhan said Bengaluru, despite being a global economic hub, continues to be governed with outdated systems. He noted that the GBA transition has created confusion rather than clarity, concentrating power at the state level instead of empowering citizens. BNP, he said, aims to introduce professional management practices in public administration, with strict accountability, timelines, and transparent governance through Area Sabhas.

BNP stated it has active ward teams in over 75 wards and more than 1,000 members supported by 50,000 volunteers. Even without elected representatives, BNP-backed citizen groups reportedly resolve multiple civic issues daily, reinforcing the party’s claim that its credibility lies in action rather than promises.

Fortis Nagarbhavi Saves 26-Year-Old Woman with Rare, Life-Threatening Pregnancy Tumour, Preserves Fertility

26-Year-Old Woman with Rare, Life-Threatening Pregnancy Tumour Successfully Treated at Fortis Nagarbhavi

Bengaluru, January 16, 2026:
Doctors at Fortis Hospital, Nagarbhavi have successfully treated a rare and life-threatening pregnancy-related tumour in a 26-year-old woman, while preserving her uterus and future fertility. The patient was diagnosed with Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia (GTN) — a rare condition reported in approximately 2 out of every 1,000 pregnancies — marked by abnormal tissue growth within the uterus and a high risk of sudden, severe internal bleeding.

The complex case was managed through a coordinated multidisciplinary approach led by Dr. Nirmala Chandrashekar, Consultant – Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Fortis Hospital, Nagarbhavi.

The woman was admitted with complaints of missed abortion and persistent vaginal spotting. Ultrasound imaging revealed an abnormal intrauterine mass with markedly increased blood flow, indicating a high likelihood of catastrophic bleeding. In many such cases, emergency hysterectomy becomes necessary to save the patient’s life. Given the seriousness of the condition, the patient’s family initially requested removal of the uterus.

However, after detailed evaluation, the Fortis Nagarbhavi medical team opted for a carefully planned conservative strategy aimed at safeguarding the patient’s life while preserving her fertility.
As part of the treatment, doctors first performed a procedure to temporarily reduce blood supply to the uterus, significantly lowering the risk of massive hemorrhage. This was followed by the precise removal of the abnormal tissue under continuous ultrasound guidance. The patient tolerated the procedure well, with no major complications, and made a smooth recovery.

Further investigations confirmed a partial molar pregnancy, a rare but treatable form of gestational trophoblastic disease. Post-treatment monitoring showed that the patient’s pregnancy hormone levels returned to normal, confirming complete recovery without the need for hysterectomy.

Explaining the case, Dr. Nirmala Chandrashekar said,
“This was an extremely challenging situation due to the imminent risk of sudden and severe bleeding. Our priority was to save the patient’s life while making every possible effort to preserve her uterus. By first controlling uterine blood flow and then carefully removing the abnormal tissue under ultrasound guidance, we achieved a safe and fertility-preserving outcome.”
Sharing her experience, the patient said she had not initially realised the seriousness of her condition.

“The doctors at Fortis Nagarbhavi explained everything patiently and treated me with great care. I am deeply grateful that my life was saved and that my ability to have children in the future has been preserved,” she said.

Mr. Ratheef Naik, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital, Nagarbhavi, noted that gestational trophoblastic tumours require early diagnosis and expert multidisciplinary care.
“At Fortis Nagarbhavi, we are equipped to provide advanced, conservative and fertility-preserving treatment when patients seek timely medical attention. This successful intervention reinforces our standing as a leading tertiary care centre for managing high-risk and complex obstetric cases with clinical excellence and compassionate, patient-centric care,” he added.

At प्रारंभ 2026, Ola Electric marked a defining moment in India’s clean-energy journey by expanding its indigenous 4680 Bharat Cell beyond electric mobility into a comprehensive new-energy platform designed for the country’s future.

The company announced that it is opening direct access to its 4680 Bharat Cells and 1.5kWh battery packs for businesses and startups, enabling applications across electric vehicles, humanoids, drones, robotics, and portable medical equipment. By making this India-designed and manufactured energy platform available to the wider ecosystem, Ola Electric aims to accelerate innovation and scale new-age technologies faster.

Strengthening its presence in residential energy, Ola Electric also opened purchases for Ola शक्ति, India’s first fully indigenous Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Designed, engineered, and manufactured domestically, Ola शक्ति brings portable, on-demand power to Indian homes, farms, and small businesses. Deliveries of the 6kW / 9.1kWh variant will begin by the end of January 2026, followed by the 3kW / 5.2kWh variant from mid-February 2026.

On the mobility front, Ola Electric has commenced deliveries of its flagship electric motorcycle, the Roadster X+ (9.1kWh), powered by the 4680 Bharat Cell and offering a claimed range of up to 500 km on a single charge.
