Vydehi Super speciality Hospital signs MoU with BAPIO Academy, UK.

Bangaluru, 24 November, 2022: VSH, Bengaluru, entered into Collaboration with the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) and BTA with the aim of developing and providing world-class training and exchange programs for doctors and nurses in India to meet the growing demands of effective and safe delivery of emergency care across the globe.

Prof. Parag Singhal, Executive Director of BTA, and Dr. D.V Chalapathy, COO of VSH, signed the MOU in the presence of Mr. Chandra lyer. Deputy High commissioner of the UK to India at Bangalore.

The training program aims to enhance the delivery of a trained and skilled workforce for emergency medicine and specialty care across India and the UK.

The partnership with VSH is an important milestone in BTA’s journey of working with Indian institutions, and VSH offers a valuable opportunity for training of young doctors and nurses aspiring to pursue opportunities of higher learning and working in the UK, stated Dr. Parag Singhal, Executive Director of BAPIO Training Academy who is visiting Bengaluru for the purpose.

“VSH offers excellent opportunities for the training of doctors and nurses; the experience and long-standing of Vydehi Institutions shall be instrumental in providing education and training opportunities for the aspirants from the state of Karnataka and around. VSH has been assessed by the BTA assessment panel and has been identified as a lead partner for training programs implemented by the BTA in association with Health Education England and the University of South Wales, UK, stated Dr. Chalapathy, Chief Operating Officer of VSH.

The BAPIO Training Academy-led International Fellowship and Two Plus training tracks have emerged as the largest collaborative institutional framework between India and UK, with close to 50 institutions participating from India and the UK. The Indian hospitals provide training opportunities for the doctors while the UK-based NHS trusts provide them with employment and further training for two years; the successful doctors can come back to India or pursue higher education and placement in the UK.

The VSH is a state of art tertiary care hospital located in the heart of Bengaluru on the Vittal Mallya Road. AIMS International Conference on Leadership in Disruptive Times & Global Marketplace for Career and Skill Development – Unleash your Potential

23rd and 24th of November 2022; AIMS Institutes, Peenya, Bangalore, a leading Educational Institute for higher education, in association with Global Education Leadership Program (GELP), Canada organized an International Conference on Leadership in Disruptive Times and Global Marketplace for Career and Skill Development on the 23rd and 24th of November 2022. The program was initiated and spearheaded by Dr Kiran Reddy, Founder, AIMS Institutes, Dr Priyanadanan Reddy – COO of AIMS Institutes and Dr Roja Reddy, Director – AIMS Institutes.

Students today encounter the unique challenges that accompany the disruption of status quo at a level previously unprecedented.  The Event included 3 Student Leadership Training Workshops to equip the students of AIMS Institutes compete in the changing world. The Workshops were held on the topics ‘Strength in Diverse Perspectives – A Cross-Cultural Perspective’; ‘21st Century Leadership: Navigating Uncertainty and Conflict with Courage’ and ‘Diversifying E-Portfolio: Developing Personal Brand’. These workshops were a part of the AIMS Institutes’ constant endeavour to provide a holistic education to the students and equip them with the skills required to empower them to be the future leaders in their chosen field.  

Research scholars and thought leaders from across India presented papers in the first session of Day 1. This was followed by two technical sessions. Panel Discussions were held on the themes ‘The Future of Work’ and ‘Thinking Globally Acting Locally’. The Panels were moderated by Ms Sobhana Jaya Madhavan, Associate Vice President, Simon Fraser University and President of the BC India Business Network. The panellists included academicians of repute, corporate leaders and renowned researchers.

The two-day event also included a team challenge and competition on Creating Global Change. The Conference concluded with the prize distribution and the awarding of Certificates to the participants.

The event reiterates the vision of the AIMS institutes to transform the youth into business professionals and entrepreneurs of global excellence with a deep concern for the society.

The Institute also recently hosted an International Summit on Sustainable Development with representatives from Sri Lanka and India participating in multiple Panel discussions sensitizing the Aimers on the importance of Sustainability practices and challenges.

ಡಾ ಸತೀಶ್ ನಾಯರ್, ಹಿರಿಯ ಸಲಹೆಗಾರರು, ಇಎನ್ ಟಿ ಮತ್ತು ತಲೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಗ್ರಂಥಿ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, ಅಪೋಲೋ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಕೇಂದ್ರ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಇವರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ತಜ್ಞರ ತಂಡವು ಕಳೆದ ಎರಡು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಬಲಬದಿಯ ಮುಖದ ದೌರ್ಬಲ್ಯದಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿರುವ 35 ವರ್ಷದ ರೋಗಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮುಖದ ನರ ಶ್ವಾನ್ನೋಮಾದ ಎಂಡೋಸ್ಕೋಪಿಕ್ ಟ್ರಾನ್ಸ್ ಕೆನಾಲ್ ಛೇದನವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿತು. ಕಿವಿಯ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ತಲೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕುತ್ತಿಗೆ, ಲ್ಯಾಟರಲ್ ಸ್ಕಲ್-ಬೇಸ್ ಅಪ್ರೋಚ್ ಮತ್ತು ಎಂಡೋಸ್ಕೋಪಿಕ್ ತಂತ್ರಗಳ ತತ್ವಗಳನ್ನು ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಬಳಸಿದ್ದು ಇದು ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ನಡೆಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ತಂಡವು ಓಟೋ ಎಂಡೋಸ್ಕೋಪಿಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿತು, ಇದು ಹಿಂಭಾಗದ ಚತುರ್ಭುಜದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಖಂಡ ಟೈಂಪನಿಕ್ ಮೆಂಬ್ರೇನ್‌ ನ ಹಿಂದೆ ಗುಲಾಬಿ-ತೆಳು ನಾನ್-ಪಲ್ಸಟೈಲ್ ದ್ರವ್ಯರಾಶಿಯನ್ನು ಬಹಿರಂಗಪಡಿಸಿತು. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿನ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಯು ರೋಗಿಯು ಬಲ-ಬದಿಯ ವಿ ದರ್ಜೆಯ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮೋಟಾರು ನರಕೋಶದ ಮುಖದ ಪಾರ್ಶ್ವವಾಯು ಮತ್ತು ಟೆಂಪೊರಲ್ ಬೋನ್‌ ನ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ-ರೆಸಲ್ಯೂಶನ್ ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟೆಡ್ ಟೊಮೊಗ್ರಫಿಯ ಮುಖದ ನರಗಳ ಹಿಂಭಾಗದ ಕುಲದ ಸವೆತವನ್ನು ಮುಖದ ಗುಪ್ತಸ್ಥಾನಗಳಲ್ಲಿನ ಸಮೂಹದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಿರಂಗಪಡಿಸಿತು, ಇದು ಮುಖದ ನರದ ಶ್ವಾನೋಮಾವನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯು ಎರಡು ಗಂಟೆಗಳ ಕಾಲ ನಡೆಯಿತು, ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ವೈದ್ಯರ ತಂಡವು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಆರಿಕ್ಯುಲರ್ ನರವನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಕೇಬಲ್ ಕಸಿ ಮಾಡುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಮುಖದ ನರವಾದ ಶ್ವಾನೋಮಾದ ಎಂಡೋಸ್ಕೋಪಿಕ್ ಟ್ರಾನ್ಸ್ ಕೆನಾಲ್ ಛೇದನವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿತು. ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯ ನಂತರದ ಎರಡನೇ ದಿನದಂದು ಯಾವುದೇ ತೊಂದರೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೆ ರೋಗಿಯನ್ನು ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು.
ಡಾ ಸತೀಶ್ ನಾಯರ್, ಹಿರಿಯ ಸಲಹೆಗಾರರು, ಇಎನ್ ಟಿ ಮತ್ತು ತಲೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಗ್ರಂಥಿ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, ಅಪೋಲೋ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಕೇಂದ್ರ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಇವರು ಹೀಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದರು, “ನಾವು ಈ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಪ್ರಕರಣವನ್ನು ಮೊದಲು ನೋಡಿದಾಗ, ನಮ್ಮ ಮುಂದಿರುವ ಸವಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ನಾವು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೆವು, ಆದರೆ ಹೊಸ ಯುಗದ ಸುಧಾರಿತ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನದಲ್ಲಿನ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸವು ರೋಗಿಗೆ ಅಗತ್ಯವಾದ ಫಲಿತಾಂಶಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡುವುದನ್ನು ಖಚಿತಪಡಿಸಿತು. ರೋಗನಿರ್ಣಯವು ಮುಖದ ನರವಾದ ಶ್ವಾನೋಮಾ ಸಂಕೀರ್ಣವಾದ ಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮುಖದ ಪಾರ್ಶ್ವವಾಯುವಿಗೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಬಹಿರಂಗಪಡಿಸಿತು. ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯು ಕಠಿಣವಾಗಿತ್ತು ಆದರೆ ಸರಿಯಾದ ತಂತ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಿಣತಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ, ಮುಖದ ನರವಾದ ಶ್ವಾನೋಮಾದ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ಮೊದಲ ಎಂಡೋಸ್ಕೋಪಿಕ್ ಟ್ರಾನ್ಸ್ ಕೆನಾಲ್ ಛೇದನವನ್ನು ನಾವು ಮಾಡಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಯಿತು. ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯ ನಂತರ ರೋಗಿಯು ಉತ್ತಮವಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.”
ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯ ಕುರಿತು ತಮ್ಮ ಆಲೋಚನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡ ಡಾಕ್ಟರ್ ಮನೀಷ್ ಮಟ್ಟೂ, ಮುಖ್ಯ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಾಹಕ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿ, ಅಪೋಲೋ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗಳು, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರದೇಶ, ಹೀಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದರು, “ಅಪೋಲೋ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಕೇಂದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ, ನಮ್ಮ ವೈದ್ಯರು ಮತ್ತು ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸಕರ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಇರಿಸುವ ರೋಗಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ವಿಶ್ವ ದರ್ಜೆಯ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸುವ ನಮ್ಮ ಧ್ಯೇಯಕ್ಕೆ ನಾವು ಬದ್ಧರಾಗಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಡಾಕ್ಟರ್ ನಾಯರ್ ಅವರು ಉದ್ದೇಶಿಸಿರುವ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಪ್ರಕರಣವು ಯಾವುದೇ ಪ್ರಕರಣವನ್ನು ಉತ್ಸಾಹ ಮತ್ತು ಬುದ್ಧಿಶಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಅನುಸರಿಸಿದರೆ, ರೋಗಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾದಷ್ಟು ಉತ್ತಮ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಲು ಪರಿಹಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಹಿಡಿಯಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ನಮಗೆ ಮನವರಿಕೆ ಮಾಡಿದೆ.”
ಮುಖದ ನರವಾದ ಶ್ವಾನೋಮಾಗಳು ಅಪರೂಪದ ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಗೆಡ್ಡೆಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಎಲ್ಲಾ ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕ ಮೂಳೆ ಗೆಡ್ಡೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 1% ಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಿರುತ್ತವೆ. ಮುಖದ ನರದ 7 ನೇ ಕಪಾಲದ ನರಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಶ್ವಾನೋಮಾ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಹಾನಿಕರವಲ್ಲದ ಮತ್ತು ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಗೆಡ್ಡೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಫೇಶಿಯಲ್ ನ್ಯೂರೋಮಾ ಎಂದೂ ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಗಡ್ಡೆಯು ಬಾಹ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಕಪಾಲದ ನರಗಳ ನರತಂತುಗಳನ್ನು ಸುತ್ತುವರೆದಿರುವ ಶ್ವಾನ್ ಕೋಶಗಳಿಂದ ಉಂಟಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. Cancer.gov ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಇದು ಜಗತ್ತಿನಾದ್ಯಂತ 200,000 ಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಜನರ ಮೇಲೆ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರಿದೆ. ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ, 50,000ದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಖದ ನರ ಶ್ವಾನೋಮಾದ ಸಂಭವವು 1 ಆಗಿದೆ.

First Time in the World, Apollo Cancer Centre performs Endoscopic Transcanal Excision of Facial Nerve Schwannoma.

Dr Satish Nair, Senior Consultant, ENT & Head and Neck Oncology, Apollo Cancer Centre, Bangalore, along with a team of medical experts performed endoscopic trans canal excision of facial nerve schwannoma on a 35-year-old patient who was suffering from right- sided facial weakness for the last two years. This is for the first time in the world that the principles of head and neck, lateral skull-base approach, and endoscopic techniques were used together to retain the entire functionality of the ear.

The team did an otoendoscopy that revealed a pinkish-pale non-pulsatile mass behind the intact tympanic membrane at the posterosuperior quadrant. Further examination showed that the patient had right-sided Grade V lower motor neuronal facial palsy and her high-resolution computed tomography of Temporal Bone revealed a mass in the facial recess eroding the posterior genu of the facial nerve, which suggests facial nerve schwannoma.

The surgery lasted for two hours wherein the team of doctors performed endoscopic trans canal excision of facial nerve schwannoma with cable grafting using the greater auricular nerve. The patient was discharged on the second postoperative day without any complications.

The diagnosis revealed facial nerve schwannoma sits in a complicated position and leads to facial palsy. The surgery was a tough one but with the right technique and expertise, we were able to pull off the world’s first endoscopic trans canal excision of facial nerve schwannoma. The patient is doing well post the surgery.”

Facial nerve schwannomas are rare slow-growing tumors, accounting for less than 1% of all temporal bone tumors. Schwannoma grows on the 7th cranial nerve of the facial nerve. It is a benign and slow-growing tumor. It is also known as a Facial Neuroma. The tumor arises from the Schwann cells which surround the axons of peripheral and cranial nerves. According to cancer.gov, it has affected fewer than 200,000 people across the globe. In India, the incidence of facial nerve schwannoma is 1 in 50,000.
