Shravya Sambhrama to Mark World Hearing Day in Bengaluru on March 1

Bengaluru: In the run-up to World Hearing Day (March 3) and International Cochlear Implant Day (February 25), Manasa Cochlear Implant and ENT Centre is set to host Shravya Sambhrama, a public awareness and outreach event highlighting the importance of early hearing detection and inclusive education for children with hearing loss.

The programme will be held on March 1, 2026, from 8 am to 12.30 pm at the Town Hall, JC Road, Bengaluru. The event is expected to draw medical professionals, parents, educators and policymakers committed to strengthening early intervention systems in Karnataka.

The event will be graced by senior dignitaries including Shalini Rajneesh, Chief Secretary; U. T. Khader, Hon’ble Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly; and Dinesh Gundu Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Health.

Led by Dr Vasanthi Anand, Consultant Cochlear Implant Surgeon, the Manasa Cochlear Implant and ENT Centre has completed over 850 cochlear implant surgeries, enabling children born with profound hearing loss to develop speech and language skills. Dr Anand is associated with leading city hospitals including Kaule Hospital, Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital and Rainbow Children’s Hospital in Bengaluru.

Medical experts underline that undetected hearing loss in infancy can significantly delay speech and language development. “No hearing means no speech and language development,” doctors reiterate, stressing that newborn hearing screening at birth is critical for timely intervention.
For children with more than 90 per cent hearing loss, cochlear implantation before one year of age is strongly recommended. Specialists say that surgery during the “golden period” of brain development greatly enhances speech and language outcomes, enabling children to integrate into mainstream classrooms.

Dr Vasanthi Anand has also played a key role in the Shravana Dosha Mukta Karnataka initiative, launched in 2016 in collaboration with J. M. Hans, Padma Shri awardee, and U. T. Khader. The programme has facilitated hundreds of free cochlear implant surgeries across the State.
The theme of the event-Early Detection, Early Implant, Ready for Classroom-reinforces a clear message: No child should be left behind due to hearing loss.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ಪರಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಜಾತಿಗಳ ಒಳಮೀಸಲಾತಿ ವರ್ಗೀಕರಣವನ್ನು ಕಡೆಗಣಿಸಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ನೇಮಕಾತಿ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಮುಂದುವರಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ತೀವ್ರ ಆಕ್ಷೇಪ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿರುವ RPI(B) ಹಾಗೂ ದಲಿತ ಸಂಘರ್ಷ ಸಮಿತಿ (ದ.ಸಂ.ಸ) ರಾಜ್ಯಾದ್ಯಂತ ಉಗ್ರ ಹೋರಾಟಕ್ಕೆ ಸಜ್ಜಾಗಿರುವುದಾಗಿ ಘೋಷಿಸಿವೆ.

ಪತ್ರಿಕಾಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ RPI(B) ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಡಾ. ಎನ್. ಮೂರ್ತಿ ಅವರು, ಪರಿಶಿಷ್ಟರ ಮೀಸಲಾತಿ 101 ಜಾತಿಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಸಮಾನವಾಗಿ ಹಂಚಿಕೆಯಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಕಳೆದ 35 ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಮಾದಿಗ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳು ಒಳಮೀಸಲಾತಿ ವರ್ಗೀಕರಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ನಿರಂತರ ಹೋರಾಟ ನಡೆಸಿವೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಈ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಪ್ರೀಂಕೋರ್ಟ್ ಏಳು ನ್ಯಾಯಾಧೀಶರ ಪೀಠ ವರ್ಗೀಕರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುಮತಿ ನೀಡಿದ ತೀರ್ಪು ನೀಡಿತ್ತು ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಸ್ಮರಿಸಿದರು.

ಈ ತೀರ್ಪಿನ ಆಧಾರದ ಮೇಲೆ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ರಚಿಸಿದ್ದ ನ್ಯಾಯಮೂರ್ತಿ ನಾಗಮೋಹನ್ ದಾಸ್ ಆಯೋಗ ವರದಿ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಆಯೋಗದ ಶಿಫಾರಸ್ಸುಗಳನ್ನು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸದೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ‘ಎ’ ವರ್ಗ (ಮಾದಿಗ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ) – ಶೇ.6, ‘ಬಿ’ ವರ್ಗ (ಹೊಲೆಯ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ) – ಶೇ.6, ‘ಸಿ’ ವರ್ಗ – ಶೇ.5 ಎಂದು ಒಟ್ಟು ಶೇ.17ರ ಮೀಸಲಾತಿ ವಿಧೇಯಕ ತಂದರೂ, ನಂತರ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಒತ್ತಡಕ್ಕೆ ಮಣಿದು ಹಿಂಜರಿದಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಆರೋಪಿಸಿದರು.
ವರ್ಗೀಕರಣ ವಿರೋಧಿಗಳು ಹೈಕೋರ್ಟ್ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿಲೇರಿದ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟ ನಿಲುವು ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳದೆ, ಈಗ ಹಳೆಯ ಶೇ.15ರ ಮೀಸಲಾತಿ ವಿಧಾನದಲ್ಲೇ ನೇಮಕಾತಿ ನಡೆಸಲು ಮುಂದಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ಪರಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಜಾತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆತಂಕ ಮೂಡಿಸಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ 2.85 ಲಕ್ಷ ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳು ಖಾಲಿ ಇವೆ. ಕಳೆದ ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 40 ಸಾವಿರಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ನೇಮಕಾತಿಗಳು ವರ್ಗೀಕರಣವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ನಡೆದಿವೆ. ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ಸಚಿವ ಸಂಪುಟ 56,432 ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳ ನೇಮಕಾತಿಗೆ ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸಿರುವುದು ಚುನಾವಣೆ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾದ ತುರ್ತು ನಿರ್ಧಾರವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಟೀಕಿಸಿದರು.
ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ನೀಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ನಮ್ಮ ವಿರೋಧವಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಒಳಮೀಸಲಾತಿ ಜಾರಿಗೊಳಿಸಿ, ಕೋರ್ಟ್‌ಗೆ ಮನವರಿಕೆ ಮಾಡಿ ನೇಮಕಾತಿ ನಡೆಸಬೇಕು. ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಮುಗಿದ ಬಳಿಕ ಒಳಮೀಸಲಾತಿ ಜಾರಿಗೆ ಬದ್ಧತೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಜನರನ್ನು ವಂಚಿಸುವ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ನಡೆಯಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಪಟ್ಟರು.

ತೆಲಂಗಾಣ, ಆಂಧ್ರಪ್ರದೇಶ ಮತ್ತು ಹರಿಯಾಣ ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳು ಸುಪ್ರೀಂಕೋರ್ಟ್ ತೀರ್ಪಿನ ಬಳಿಕ ಒಳಮೀಸಲಾತಿ ಜಾರಿಗೆ ಮುಂದಾದವು. ಆದರೆ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಸದಾಶಿವ ಆಯೋಗ, ನಾಗಮೋಹನ್ ದಾಸ್ ಆಯೋಗ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಹಲವು ವರದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಜಾರಿಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಸರ್ಕಾರ ವಿಳಂಬ ಮಾಡಿದೆ ಎಂದು ದೂರಿದರು.
ಇದೇ ವೇಳೆ ಪರಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಜಾತಿ/ಪರಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ವರ್ಗಗಳ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ ಮೀಸಲಾದ SCP/TSP ಅನುದಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳೆದ ಮೂರು ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ₹38,870 ಕೋಟಿ ಹಣವನ್ನು ಇತರ ಉದ್ದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ವರ್ಗಾಯಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂಬ ಆರೋಪವನ್ನೂ ಮಾಡಿದರು.

ಒಳಮೀಸಲಾತಿ ವರ್ಗೀಕರಣದಂತೆ ಶೇ.17ರ ಮೀಸಲಾತಿ ಆಧಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ನೇಮಕಾತಿ ನಡೆಸಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸಿದ ಅವರು, ಮಾರ್ಚ್ ಮೊದಲ ವಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಸಭೆ ನಡೆಸಿ ಮುಂದಿನ ಹೋರಾಟದ ರೂಪರೇಷೆ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದರು. ಅಗತ್ಯವಿದ್ದರೆ ರಾಜ್ಯಾದ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರತಿಭಟನೆ, ಸಭಾ ಬಹಿಷ್ಕಾರ ಮತ್ತು ‘ಗೋಬ್ಯಾಕ್’ ಚಳುವಳಿಯನ್ನೂ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದು ಎಚ್ಚರಿಸಿದರು.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿನ ಬೀದಿ ಬದಿ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾದ ಗುರುತಿನ ಚೀಟಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿನ ದೋಷಗಳನ್ನು ಸರಿಪಡಿಸಿ, ಮಾನ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ತಿದ್ದುಪಡಿ ಮಾಡಿದ ಐಡಿ ಕಾರ್ಡ್‌ಗಳನ್ನು ಮೂರು ವಾರಗಳೊಳಗಾಗಿ ವಿತರಿಸುವಂತೆ Karnataka High Court ಆದೇಶಿಸಿರುವ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರದೇಶ ಬೀದಿ ಬದಿ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿಗಳ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟ ತಕ್ಷಣ ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಆಗ್ರಹಿಸಿದೆ.

ಗೌರವಾನ್ವಿತ ನ್ಯಾಯಮೂರ್ತಿ Suraj Govindaraj ಅವರ ಪೀಠದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಚಾರಣೆಗೆ ಬಂದಿದ್ದ ರಿಟ್ ಪಿಟಿಷನ್ ನಂ. 5264/2026ರಲ್ಲಿ, ಭಾರತ ಸಂವಿಧಾನದ ಕಲಂ 226 ಮತ್ತು 227ರಡಿ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಲಾದ ಅರ್ಜಿಯ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ಈ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನ ಹೊರಬಿದ್ದಿದೆ.
ಪ್ರಕರಣದ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆ
ಪಿಟಿಷನರ್‌ಗಳ ದೂರಿನ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ‘ಗ್ರೇಟರ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರ’ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಲಾದ ಗುರುತಿನ ಚೀಟಿಗಳಿಗೆ ‘ಬೃಹತ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಮಹಾನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆ’ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಯ ಸಹಿ ಇರುವುದರಿಂದ ದಾಖಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಗೊಂದಲ ಉಂಟಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಬಗ್ಗೆ 30.01.2026ರಂದು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಾನವನ್ನು ಇನ್ನೂ ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲಾಗಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ನ್ಯಾಯಾಲಯದ ಗಮನಕ್ಕೆ ತರಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಬೀದಿ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ ನಡೆಸಲು ಗುರುತಿನ ಚೀಟಿ ಕಡ್ಡಾಯ ದಾಖಲೆ ಆಗಿರುವುದನ್ನು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಿ, ನ್ಯಾಯಾಲಯವು ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಪ್ರತಿವಾದಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಜಿದಾರರ ಮನವಿಯನ್ನು ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಿ, ಸರಿಯಾದ ವಿವರಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಐಡಿ ಕಾರ್ಡ್‌ಗಳನ್ನು ಮೂರು ವಾರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡುವಂತೆ ಸೂಚಿಸಿದೆ.

ಒಕ್ಕೂಟದ ಆಗ್ರಹ
ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರದೇಶ ಬೀದಿ ಬದಿ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿಗಳ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟದ ರಾಜ್ಯಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಸಿ.ಇ. ರಂಗಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಅವರು, ಹೊಸದಾಗಿ ಐದು ನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಗುರುತಿನ ಚೀಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ವಿತರಿಸುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಲೋಪದೋಷಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಸರಿಪಡಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಕುಟುಂಬ ಸದಸ್ಯರ ಫೋಟೋ ಮತ್ತು ವಿವರಗಳು, ಜಿಪಿಎಸ್ ಕೋಡ್ ಆಧಾರಿತ ಜಿಯೋಫೆನ್ಸ್ ವಲಯ ಮಾಹಿತಿ, ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಜಂಟಿ ಆಯುಕ್ತರ ಸಹಿ ಮುಂತಾದ ಅಂಶಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ನಮೂದಿಸಿ ನವೀಕರಿಸಿದ ಗುರುತಿನ ಚೀಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

‘Act Now or Lose a Generation’: Experts Sound Alarm on Climate and Child Health

Experts Call for Child-Centred Climate Action at Inaugural Session of South India Consultation

Bengaluru, February 28, 2026: The inaugural day of the South India Consultation on Climate Change and Health, organised by CRY-Child Rights and You (South India Team), set a serious and urgent tone as experts underscored the growing health risks climate change poses to children across the region.

The consultation opened with the official release of CRY’s study examining the impact of climate change on children in select South Indian states. The report presents stark findings on how rising temperatures, erratic rainfall, floods, droughts and environmental degradation are affecting children’s health, nutrition, education and psychosocial wellbeing.

Speakers noted that while climate change is a global crisis, its consequences are disproportionately borne by children-particularly those in socio-economically vulnerable communities. Disruptions to healthcare, water and sanitation systems, schooling and local livelihoods were highlighted as compounding risks that deepen existing inequalities.

The inaugural session featured eminent public health and development experts including Dr. Ritu Priya Mehrotra, Mr. Amulya Nidhi, Dr. Veena Shatrugna, Prof. Himanshu Upadhyaya, Prof. Mathew George and Prof. Adithya Pradyumna. Addressing the gathering, they emphasised that climate resilience must move beyond infrastructure to place children at the centre of adaptation strategies.

Discussions on the first day focused on the direct health impacts of climate change-such as heat-related illnesses, vector-borne diseases and injuries during extreme weather events-as well as indirect consequences including malnutrition, school dropouts, displacement and psychological stress.

Participants called for stronger inter-sectoral coordination between health, education, disaster management and child protection systems. The need for data-driven policy planning and community-level preparedness was repeatedly stressed.

The inaugural day concluded with a collective acknowledgment that climate change is no longer a future threat but a present reality demanding immediate, child-focused responses. The consultation will continue on March 1 with deliberations on the status of health and healthcare systems in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and their preparedness to address climate-linked health challenges.

வட ஆற்காடு மாவட்டத்தின் வேலூர் நகரில் கலாஸ்பாளையம் பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள அருள்மிகு ஸ்ரீ வீரபத்திரர் ஆலயம் கடந்த 47 ஆண்டுகளாக பக்தர்களின் ஆன்மீக மையமாக இருந்து வருகிறது.

இவ்வாலயத்தில் ஆண்டுதோறும் நடைபெறும் மயிலார் உற்சவம் இந்த ஆண்டும் கடந்த ஜனவரி 22ஆம் தேதி திங்கட்கிழமை சிறப்பாக நடைபெற்றது. அதிகாலை முதலே பக்தர்கள் திரளாகக் கூடிய நிலையில், உற்சவருக்கு சிறப்பு அபிஷேகம் மற்றும் மங்கள தீபாராதனை நடைபெற்றது. அதன் பின்னர் சிவா கைலாய மேளதாள ஒலியுடன் அலங்கரிக்கப்பட்ட பூப்பல்லக்கில் உற்சவர் வீதி உலா வந்து பக்தர்களுக்கு அருள் பாலித்தார்.

உற்சவத்தை முன்னிட்டு ஆலயம் முழுவதும் மலர் அலங்காரம் செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தது. வீதி உலா நடைபெற்றபோது பக்தர்கள் பக்திப் பாடல்கள் பாடி, ஆரத்தி எடுத்தும் உற்சவரை வரவேற்றனர். மயிலார் உற்சவம் ஆண்டுதோறும் பக்தர்கள் ஆர்வத்துடன் பங்கேற்கும் முக்கிய ஆன்மீக நிகழ்வாக விளங்கி வருகிறது.
