BENGALURU, August 19, 2025: Eye specialists in Bengaluru are reporting a steep rise in vision problems such as myopia and astigmatism over the past decade, with children, young adults, and IT professionals being the most affected. Doctors attribute this surge to excessive screen time, limited outdoor activity, and the pressures of academics and work.
To address this growing concern, Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital has launched the Wavelight EX500 Contoura Excimer Laser in Bengaluru — an advanced, topography-guided LASIK system that offers precise, personalised vision correction.
Refractive errors, caused when the eye fails to focus light correctly, are now increasingly common in Karnataka, particularly among children aged 8–15 and young adults between 20–35 years. Experts warn that without early detection and timely treatment, these conditions could lead to complications such as lazy eye in children and persistent eye strain in adults.

Unlike conventional LASIK, Contoura Vision maps up to 22,000 unique points on the cornea, enabling highly customised treatment. The technology reduces side effects such as glare and halos, speeds up recovery, and improves clarity, even in night vision.
According to Dr Sanjana Vatsa, Cornea and Refractive Surgeon at Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, refractive surgery today is about more than cosmetic freedom from glasses.
