“Bridging the Golden Hour Gap” HOSMAT’s Big Leap in Trauma Care

India’s Trauma Care Gets a Timely Boost as HOSMAT Launches ‘Golden Hour Network’ at Landmark Conclave

Bengaluru, March 28, 2026: In a major push to strengthen trauma care systems across the country, HOSMAT Hospitals, in association with the Bangalore Orthopaedic Society, hosted HOSMAT Traumacon 2026-a first-of-its-kind, practice-oriented trauma conference that also marked the launch of the Golden Hour Network (GHN) and the HOSMAT Alumni Association.

Conceived as a structured and collaborative clinical platform, the Golden Hour Network brings together surgeons trained within the HOSMAT ecosystem to deliver faster, more precise, and outcome-driven trauma care. More than a conventional alumni group, GHN is designed as a co-governed academic and clinical network, with plans for regular clinical discussions, specialty-focused quarterly meets, and an annual TraumaCon summit.

The initiative draws its name from the critical “golden hour”-the first hour after a traumatic injury, widely considered crucial in determining patient survival. Over the next six months, GHN will formalise its governance framework, onboard senior alumni, and begin its first set of clinical engagements.

The launch signals HOSMAT’s transition from a high-volume clinical centre to a research-led, academically driven institution in orthopaedics and trauma care. Over the past three decades, the hospital has built a formidable trauma ecosystem, handling 25–30 trauma surgeries daily-placing it among the busiest centres in the country.

Its academic footprint is equally significant, with over 300 research initiatives and more than 80 publications in internationally indexed journals. The institution has also played a key role in shaping orthopaedic education, with estimates suggesting that nearly 10% of Bengaluru’s orthopaedic surgeons have trained at HOSMAT.

Held at ITC Welcome Hotel on Richmond Road, the conference saw participation from over 150 orthopaedic surgeons, trauma experts, and clinicians from across India. The event also paid tribute to the late Dr Thomas Chandy, a pioneer in trauma care, whose legacy continues to influence the institution’s philosophy.

India continues to grapple with a high trauma burden, reporting over 4.8 lakh road accidents annually and close to 1.8 lakh fatalities-making trauma a leading cause of death among young adults. Against this backdrop, Traumacon 2026 focused on bridging critical gaps in emergency response, training, and clinical integration through real-world, experience-based learning.

The conference featured more than 25 expert-led sessions covering a wide spectrum-from upper and lower limb trauma to paediatric injuries, non-union cases, complication management, medico-legal issues, and practice efficiency. A strong emphasis was placed on case-based discussions, enabling clinicians to engage with real-life scenarios and sharpen decision-making skills under pressure.

Speaking at the event, Managing Director Anisha Chandy Eckardt highlighted the urgent need to bridge gaps in time, training, and integration in trauma care. She noted that the initiative aims not just to foster dialogue, but to drive practical, on-ground improvements in patient outcomes-especially during the critical golden hour.

Dr Ravishankar M R, Head of Orthopaedic Trauma at HOSMAT and Chairman of Traumacon 2026, emphasised the institution’s strength in combining high clinical volumes with academic rigour and continuous research. He said the conference reflects a balanced approach where practice, research, and collaboration converge to create more consistent and evidence-based care systems.

Adding perspective, Dr Subodh M Shetty, President of the Orthopaedic Society of India, described Dr Thomas Chandy as a mentor who shaped generations of specialists. He noted that the Golden Hour Network is a natural extension of that legacy, with the potential to significantly enhance trauma response systems across the country.

With strong participation and a distinctly practical focus, HOSMAT Traumacon 2026-and the launch of GHN-marks a significant step toward building a more integrated, collaborative, and research-driven trauma care ecosystem in India. The organisers expect the conference to evolve into a national platform for trauma education, research, and clinical collaboration in the years ahead.
