Two-Day National Book Fair 2026 draws strong turnout, celebrates Gen Z reading culture

Bengaluru: A two-day National Book Fair hosted by JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) in collaboration with the National Book Trust of India concluded on March 26 with an enthusiastic response from students, academicians and book lovers.
Held at the JAIN Knowledge Campus, the event brought together publishers and booksellers from across the country, offering a wide selection of academic titles, literature and competitive exam materials.

The inaugural session was attended by Prof. S. R. Niranjana, Vice Chairman of the Karnataka State Higher Education Council, who served as the chief guest. In his keynote address, Dr. Ramesha B, senior professor and chairperson at the Department of Library and Information Science, Bangalore University, spoke on “Reading Habits: The New Social Flex among Gen Z.” He highlighted how reading is increasingly being rediscovered by younger audiences as both an intellectual pursuit and a cultural statement.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Jitendra Kumar Mishra, Vice Chancellor (in-charge) and Registrar of JAIN University, in the presence of senior academic leaders including Dr. Dinesh Nilkant, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Shradha Kanwar, Chief Academic Officer, and Dr. Pattipaka Mohan from NBTI, Bengaluru. The event was coordinated by Dr. Meeramani N, university librarian.

Organisers said the fair not only saw strong participation but also succeeded in reinforcing the relevance of books in an increasingly digital world. By encouraging young readers to engage with print, the event aimed to nurture critical thinking, creativity and deeper learning habits among Gen Z.
