The Bharatiya Samagana Sabha will present its 10th Annual Indian Classical Music Festival themed “Mysore Asthana Sangeethotsava” between January 30 and February 3, 2019 at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. The festival is dedicated to the late Maharaja of Mysore, Sri Jayachamaraja Wodeyar, whose birth centenary is being commemorated this year Jayachamaraja Wodeyar was a rare King who was not only a great patron of the arts but was also a highly accomplished musicologist and composer.
The Mysore court attracted great musicians from all over India and was the cultural centre for Karnataka just like Tanjavur was for Tamil Nadu. Wodeyar has composed about 90 krithis in Sanskrit. The Bharatiya Samagana Sabha has curated this festival to represent the depth and range of the Mysore bani, which has as its great representatives great Veena players, composers, violinists as well as vocalists.
The first day will feature a concert by Hindustani vocalist Padma Sri Pandit Venkatesh Kumar who will be receiving the Samagana Mathanga National Award for excellence in Music for 2018. Hailing from Dharward, Venkatesh Kumar is one of the leading voices of Hindustani music today. The festival will also showcase the beautiful music of Hindustani vocalist Mahesh Kale, as well as concerts by Carnatic star sibling duos Ranjani and Gayatri, as well as the immensely talented violinists Kumaresh and Ganesh.
A much anticipated jugalbandhi between Rahul Deshpande and Abhishek Raghuram is sure to bring the best of raga music to the fore. Child Prodigy Rahul Vellal will feature in the Yuva Savishkara Concerts. The Samagana Dhanvantri concerts focussing on music therapy will feature Gayathri Venkataraghavan and Mahathi.S. Veena maestro R K Prakash will present Mysore Bani music. The Mysore Asthana Concerts (Morning Session on February 2) will include Karnata ba artistes G Ravikiran, Brothers, and Goshti gana led by Hamsika Venkataraghavan. These artistes will present the compositions of H.H Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, Mysore Sadashiva Rao, Veene Seshanna, Muttiah Bhagavatar. Mysore Vasudevacharya and T Chowdiah. Manasi Prasad, Heram Hemantha, Vinay Sherva, Sahana S V, Bangalore The Purandara and Thyagaraja Aradhane will take place on February 3 morning and will feature Hindustani vocalist Jayatheertha Mevundi who will render Purandra Devarnamas and Rajesh Vaidya and U Rajesh who will play Thyagaraja Krithis.
Samagana Mathanga National Award-2018
The 9th Samagana Mathanga National Award for excellence in Indian Classical for the year 2018, will be presented to Padma Shri Pandit Venkatesh Kumar, a renowned Hindustani Vocalist. The award includes a purse of Rs 1 lakh, a memento and a citation. This award will be presented on 3rd, February, 2019 at 5 p.m.
