CPRI Celebrates Diamond Jubilee Central

Power Research Institute, an autonomous body under Ministry of Power, Government of India located at Sadashivanagar, Bangalore is celebrating Diamond Jubilee with the Institute Day Celebration

on 16h January 2020 on completion of its 60 years services in Indian Power Sector. The Chief Guest for the event is Prof, G.D. Yadav, Padma Shri and Professor Emeritus from Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai who will be delivering the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial lecture on the topic, “The Global Energy Scenario and Hydrogen Economy”. During the event, CPRI-Diamond Jubilee Special Postal Cover will be released by Dr. Charles Lobo, IPOS, Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka Circle.

CPRI, which was initially established in Bangalore and Bhopal in 1960 is now spread across other locations like Hyderabad, Nagpur, Noida, Kolkata and Guwahati. It is headed by Shri. V.S. Nandakumar as Director General. The Institute has established a brand name as an international accredited testing organization on par with other reputed international test houses. It is one of the 12 laboratories in the world approved for Short Circuit testing and certification of power equipment. Manufacturers from all over the world find it as a preferable destination for their electrical testing needs conforming International standards. CPRI is recognized for certifying electrical equipment for energy efficient operation in accordance with the standards & labelling programme of Bureau of Energy Efficiency.

CPRI is the forerunner in undertaking R&D activities, as well as the nodal agency of Ministry of Power, Government of India for funding Research Schemes, in the areas of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of electricity. Progressive developments are happening in projects on Innovative technologies like Superconducting cables, LED devices, light weight polymer insulators and components, Electricity based Clean Cooking, Smart Meters, Waste to energy, Energy Storage and Renewable energy. MoUs have been entered with IITS and other research organizations in India for collaborative development and demonstration of technologies.

The Institute has significantly contributed to the Government of India programmes like, “Restructured Accelerated Power Development & Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) and the prestigious “Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyuthikaran Yojana” (RGGVY). The Institute is regularly offering Consultancy services, Third party inspection and Training Programmes for electrical utilities and manufacturers in India and abroad.
