The escalating numbers of persons infected by COVID-19 and in need of treatment has made it imperative to involve private hospitals, corporate hospitals, nursing homes etc., ie., Private Healthcare Providers (PHPS) registered under KPME Act. At present treatment of COVID 19 is mainly being done by the Public Health Institutions.

Therefore orders have been issued in Notification No. HFW 228 ACS 2020 dated 23/6/2020 (enclosed) invoking the powers under the National Disaster Management Act 2005 for all private hospitals to share 50% of their beds having facilities to treat COVID-19 patients to be reserved for the treatment of patients, referred by Public Health Authorities. The remaining 50% can be utilized by the PHPS for private patients and insurance patients. The said notification also fixes the cost for treatment per day for patients referred by public health authority and the ceiling that PHPS can charge private patients directly admitted by them.

• For COVID 19 patients referred by the PHIS to private healthcare providers, the cost of the treatment is completely free for the patient and Government will pick up the cost.

• Patients wishing to avail treatment in private hospital directly by passing Public Health Authorities, the cost of the treatment will be borne by the patient.

•All COVID-19 positive patients including those belonging to BPL and APL categories, migrant labourers and interstate returnees not possessing PDS card shall be considered as eligible in view of the unprecedented pandemic situation.

•Exclusive Ophthalmology hospitals and Dental care hospitals will not be notified for COVID treatment. All other Private hospitals, Corporate hospitals and Nursing homes will mandatorily share their beds with the government. 1

•Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust will be the Nodal Agency that will assess the bed capacity of the private hospitals to be notified and calculate the number of beds that will be requisitioned.

•It is compulsorily for all hospitals to empanel themselves in Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust web portal.
