Bengaluru, April, 2022: ‘Future of design in the unreal world’, was the epicenter of conversations at ‘What’s Next’2022,the sixth edition of Pearl Academy’s flagship event that brings industry and academia together to chart the roadmap for the future. The World Café Style confluence was hosted by Pearl Academy at its Bengaluru Campus.
This year’s ‘What’s Next’ edition was divided into five sub themes – Creative Education in the Unreal World, Business in Hyper Reality, Fashioning the Unreal World, Design in the Multiverse and Disruption in Media. The event witnessed leading global design educators, industry experts, policymakers, design professionals, thought leaders who came together to discuss and debate about various technological, social, and business disruptions and their impact on the future of creative education.

Speaking at the sixth edition of ‘What’s Next’, Aditi Srivastava, President, Pearl Academy said, “With a vision to create a community of innovative thinkers and doers, What’s Next’s format is rooted in collective dialogue & interesting discussions amongst the participants about futuristic scenarios where design, technology and education intersect.”
The event started with an opening keynote address by Nikhil Malhotra, Global Head, Makers Lab, Tech Mahindra. He highlighted how emerging technologies like Quantum Computing and Metaverse have the power to disrupt our reality as well as the future. It will enable us to envision a new world together which has technology at its core.

Sharrom Y, Country Manager India – 3D & Immersive, Adobe supported the keynote by quoting an industry report according to which 3 out of 4 millennials are happy to pay for a virtual experience than a product.
Participating in the interactive session were industry leaders from the world of fashion, design, business, media and education who shared unique perspectives on how the future may unfold. Human centricity remained the key theme in design. The media fraternity discussed how technology can help in data mapping and opportunities for experiencing and interacting with news. Fashion industry leaders were of the view that technology will lead to better transparency and more intelligence. Academicians expressed that ethics need to be redefined for the Metaverse and students need to be prepared accordingly.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of What’s Next, Dr. Sanyogita Chadha, Campus Director said, ‘Pearl Academy Bengalurushared detailed information on programs and scholarships being offered, industry projects that the students are working on, and Pearl Academy is nurturing a highly employable creative workforce. She also shared that this year PG design students from Bengaluru campus have been offered annual packages of upto INR 17 lakhs from leading tech companies.’

Bengaluru; 21st April 2022: SVKM’s NMIMS, a Deemed to be University, today celebrated the Convocation Day to felicitate students of the School of Business Management (SBM) Bengaluru Campus on their successful completion of the Master of Business Administration (MBA), PGDM-Exe and PGDBFS programs, at Sathya Sai Samskruta Sadanam, Bengaluru. The celebration was graced by the Hon’ble Chief Guest Ms. Meenakshi Srinivasan, IBM, a legendary technology veteran

The celebration was also attended by Dr. Ramesh Bhat, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS)

A total of 214 students attended the ceremony this year. The MBA-11 programme had 175 students, the PGDM Ex 25 batch had 30 students, and PGDBFS 2 programme had 9 students. The gold medal winners of the steller full-time MBA-11 programme are Sagun Agarwal (batch 2022, First Rank); Garvi Samariya (batch 2022, Second Rank) ; Shweatlana Mahapatra (batch 2022, Third Rank); The gold medal winners of the PGDM Ex 25 programme for professionals are Raj Pratap Solanki (batch 2022, First Rank); Sudheer Kumar Lanka ( batch 2022, Second Rank) .and The gold medal winners of the PGDBFS 2 (Post Graduate Diploma in Banking & Financial Services) program is Sowmya Ganesh ( Batch 2022, First Rank)

The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of SVKM’s NMIMS, Dr. Ramesh Bhat conferred the Award of degrees to the graduating students, and Dr. Rajendra Nargundkar, Director, NMIMS, Bengaluru Campus facilitated the process.

NMIMS, a fully integrated Deemed University, is now expanding into Bengaluru, with a range of Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs of high quality and rigour. This can serve the needs of the Southern States while maintaining the diversity across regions as far as student intake goes. In particular, the UG programs like B.Sc. Finance and B.Sc. in Applied Statistics/Analytics, as well as Data Science at NMIMS Bengaluru, are unique, and industry-relevant.

Expanding the horizon further, NMIMS Bengaluru Campus is in the process of signing af Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thunderbird (Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University) United States, for a dual degree program which the MBA students can pursue after their first year at NMIMS Bengaluru. Second-year credits can be completed at Thunderbird, United States.

Speaking at the Convocation ceremony Dr. Ramesh Bhat, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SVKM’s NMIMS, said, “Our Bengaluru campus will soon have an agreement with Thunderbird. The MoU is in process and is in its final stages. We are also seeking more international collaborations like this in the near future. We are already a part of the Exchange programs for short-term exchange or higher studies with several international universities through our Mumbai office of International Linkages.”

Karnataka state and the Eastern Corridor comprising other states are expected to benefit from these well-trained students, both MBA and BBA, B.Com., B.Sc. Economics and others. OPHTHALMOLOGY PIONEER DR. ROHIT SHETTY IN WORLD POWER LIST 2022

Bengaluru: DR. Rohit Shetty, cornea-refractive surgeon and a translational scientist, has been named as one of the top 100 most inspiring and influential ophthalmologists of the world by the respected and widely read ‘The Ophthalmologist’ magazine.

The Ophthalmologist Power List 2022 is a roll call of giants in clinical practice and vision research. The list is prepared from the mammoth lineup of 450 names by an international panel of 20 judges. “I am humbled and honored to be amongst the top brilliant minds in eye care” said Dr. Shetty , who is the Vice Chairman of Narayana Nethralaya. Dr. Shetty has been passionate about personalized eye care that is backed by Narayana Nethralaya’s research laboratory, state-of-the-art technology as well as artificial intelligence. “The biggest need in the field is to quickly adapt to the rapidly changing technology and therapeutics,” he said.

Dr. Shetty is in the company of stalwarts such as Pearse A. Keane (Consultant Ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Professor of Artificial Medical Intelligence at University College London); Alan C. The Vice Chairman of Narayana Nethralaya has been practicing high volume refractive surgery for over 20 years with a keen interest in keratoconus and ectatic corneal disorders. He is the Chief Mentor for the Dual Academic Program (Ph.D. & Clinical Fellowship) at Narayana Nethralaya Eye Institute, Bangalore, and Maastricht University.

Dr. Shetty’s work on pain management after photorefractive keratectomy, the influence of stromal molecular markers on corneal ectasia and risk scoring systems to predict ectasia after refractive surgery has been well received in the world of ophthalmology. He has over 300 peer-reviewed publications in national and international journals and is a reviewer for many indexed journals for this specialty. He is also on the editorial board of the Journal of Refractive Surgery. Dr. Shetty completed his residency in ophthalmology from the St. Johns Medical College for the Diplomate of the National Board. Dr. Shetty obtained his FRCS in Glasgow, Scotland, the United Kingdom in 2006 and is currently an FRCS examiner.

The Ophthalmologist Power List 2022 honour is one of the many recognitions conferred on Dr Shetty. In the All India Ophthalmological Society’s 2015 annual conference, Dr Shetty won the prestigious Col. Rangachari Award for the overall best paper of the conference for his work on “Is Inflammation Driving Keratoconus? A Holistic Study of Molecular Pathways”. The American Academy of Ophthalmology recently conferred an achievement award to Dr. Rohit Shetty for the distinguished services he has rendered over the years to the programs of the society. He has also been awarded the Casebeer Award for outstanding contribution to refractive surgery by the ISRS in the year 2019.
