The purpose of my visit through the Fulbright Scholar Award is to share a new and a practical teaching methodology with the faculty in Rural College Kanakapura. This reform is overdue especially in the rural communities.
During the first phase of this project, I studied the current teaching practice through surveys and focus group interviews. Subsequently, I introduced a student-centered instructional method called “the flipped classroom.” Faculty are now implementing this teaching method in their classrooms. I will study 1) faculty experience in designing, implementing and refining their teaching method; 2) the benefits and challenges they face as they adapt this new technique. Faculty will eventually serve as the ambassadors of change that would help students become better learners and stronger citizens said Chaya Gopalan, Ph.D., FAPS, Professor, Departments of Applied Health & Nurse Anesthesiology, at press meet held at press club of Bangalore.

Spread the message of SPIC MACAY, enrol new volunteers and to encourage people to preserve Indian heritage.
Promote MAHATMA GANDHI’s vision of simple living and high thinking.
He cycles on a basic bike with no gears, no fancy branded accessories and no GPS!! Travelling with limited pairs of clothes and personal items with minimal stuff.
Dr Seth says, that he is able to take up this challenge at the age of 73 years because of YOGAwhich he has been doing since his childhood. Also, he takes cycling as meditation and not just physical exercise. He wants to convey the same message to youngsters about how ability to appreciate Indian culture and Heritage makes him the invincible man that he is today. When asked why he picked cycling and not mountaineering or walking or something else, he said that nowadays cycling is more like a trend among youth rather than an exercise so he is using this trend to attract the youth to make them aware about SPIC MACAY and its purpose to “have every child experience the inspiration and mysticism embodied in Indian and World heritage”. Of course, they will realise the physical and environmental benefits of the cycling.
On India’s 75th Independence Day, 15th August 2022, he started from Srinagar, Kashmir and cycled through various states stopping at villages, small and big towns, meeting different people to spread his message –

A 500 LMP Oxygen Plant was inaugurated at Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Multispecialty Hospital of Sri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Dakshninamnaya Sringeri Sharada Peetham at Sringeri, Chikamagaluru district of Karnataka in the presence of Jagadguru Sri Sri Vidhushekara Bharati, Mahaswamiji and other dignitaries. The Oxygen Plant has been set up under the CSR initiative of Caterpillar Foundation, Assist International and NGO partner United Way Bengaluru. This intervention will help the Hospital to cater to the needs of 50,000 community members from 64 villages and cities like Chikamangaluru and Shimoga. During the second pandemic wave, hospitals faced an acute shortage of oxygen. By installing Oxygen Plants in government hospitals, United Way Bengaluru (UWBe), in collaboration with CSR partners Caterpillar Foundation and Assist International, took a significant step towards strengthening hospitals. Besides Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Multispecialty Hospital, Oxygen Plants have been set up in three other hospitals – Rabakavi Banahatti General Hospital and General Hospital in Bagalkot District; and Sindagi Taluk General Hospital in Vijayapura district. The three hospitals cater to a population of 64,000, 1,40,000 and 4,50,000, respectively. Each of these plants has a 500 LPM capacity and is already functional. Staff of the hospitals have been trained to ensure proper usage and maintenance of the plants. “This intervention ensures an uninterrupted supply of oxygen in these hospitals. It is useful for meeting the immediate needs as well as long-term needs of the hospitals. As an organisation, we believe in mobilising the caring power of the communities. We feel gratified to be a part of this significant initiative, and I take the opportunity to thank our CSR partners for coming forward and collaborating with us in this.” Rajesh Krishnan, Chief Executive Officer, United Way Bengaluru. *
