DKMS BMST Foundation India and Acharya Institute of Technology, Bengaluru joined hands to help blood cancer patients

Over 300 students of AIT and professors registered as stem cell donors

Bengaluru, 10th January 2023: DKMS BMST Foundation India, a non-profit organization dedicated to fight against blood cancer, organised a blood stem cell donor registration drive at Acharya Institute of Technology, Bengaluru (AIT) organized by Department of MBA, in association with NSS, AIT. Over 300 students including NSS students registered themselves as potential lifesavers. 

Over the next 2 years, DKMS BMST Foundation India and Acharya Institute of Technology will work closely together to help blood cancer patients by registering more potential stem cell donors and raise awareness about this noble cause. 

Patrick Paul, CEO, DKMS BMST Foundation India, said, “Often a blood stem cell transplant from a matching stem cell donor is the only chance at survival for blood cancer and blood disorder such as Thalassemia and Aplastic Anemia patients. A successful blood stem cell transplant needs a perfect HLA tissue match. Every year over 1 lakh people are diagnosed with such life-threatening diseases in India and with the increasing burden, more and more Indian patients are looking for matching stem cell donors., we aim to raise awareness about blood stem cell donation through this association with AIT.  we hope that the student community will further strengthen our mission and help save more lives.” 

Dr. Rajath Hegde M M Principal, Acharya Institute of Technology (AIT), said, “Today’s younger generation have huge potential and a great zeal to empower and encourage others to contribute to a noble cause. After all, saving a life is as important as giving a new life. We as an institution are so proud to be a part of this cause and will continue help raise awareness amongst public to come forward and register as a stem cell donor”.

The blood cancer awareness programme and donor registration drive were organized by Dr. Juin Choudhury, HOD-MBA and coordinated by Dr. Nijaguna G, Prof. Monica M, Assistant Professor, Dr. Prashanth KP, NSS officer, Prof. Channakeshava and Dr. Sanman, NSS Coordinators. The team of Students volunteers were identified and trained to drive the students to attend the programme. 

During the registration drive one of the students said “I am feeling extremely happy, and proud of the fact that I have registered as a potential stem cell donor by a simple process of giving my swab samples. I am also delighted that that so many students have come forward and registered for this worthy cause. DKMS-BMST very clearly elucidated the whole process, which has given us complete clarity. I am hopeful that someday I may also get a chance to save a precious life. This is a great cause, and I will continue to volunteer and raise awareness on blood stem cell donation.”

Every 5 minutes, someone in India is diagnosed with blood cancer, or blood disorders like Thalassemia or Aplastic Anemia, which is becoming a major public health challenge in our country. A blood stem cell transplant from an HLA matched donor is an effective treatment for long term management of the disease and for improving the quality of life of the patient. However, 70% of the patients are unable to receive a transplant due to unavailability of matching blood stem cell donor from within their family and are dependent on an unrelated HLA matched donor. With very few individuals signing up as potential blood stem cell donors, the probability of finding an HLA matching donor is extremely difficult in most cases.  Therefore, it is important that more and more people of Indian ethnicity come forward and register as a potential stem cell donor.

All it takes is five minutes of your time and a simple 3 step process: 

Step 1: Visit the site, fill up an online form and you will receive a DIY swab kit at home. 

Step 2: Once you receive the swab kit, fill out the consent form and take a tissue sample from the inside of your cheeks with 3 cotton swabs provided in the kit. 

Step 3: Send back your swab sample in the pre-paid envelope provided.

DKMS laboratory will then analyze your tissue type and your details will be available in the global search for blood stem cell donors. If you do come up as a suitable donor, DKMS-BMST will get in touch with you straight away. Your blood stem cells will be collected from the bloodstream via Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Collection process, which is similar to a blood platelet donation wherein only your stem cells are taken. This is a safe, non-surgical outpatient process.

It is possible for women with cervical cancer to become pregnant: Experts

BENGALURU / January 10, 2023: Women with early-stage cervical cancer can go for treatment options like conization and trachelectomy that can preserve their fertility if they wish to have children. If already pregnant when diagnosed in early stages, they can continue with the pregnancy and deliver by C-section. However, those suffering from late-stage cervical cancer may have to opt for IVF if they wish to become pregnant. This was said by Dr. Vidya V Bhat, Medical Director, RadhaKrishna Multispecialty Hospital, Bengaluru, to mark the ongoing Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.

The doctor said: “Hysterectomy is the preferred surgical treatment in cervical cancer from Stage 1 to Stage 2a. That is when the cancer is limited to the cervix and uterus only. Uterus-saving surgeries like Conization and Radical Trachelectomy can be done only in early stages.”

Cervical cancer is highly preventable and curable if caught early. Nearly all cervical cancers can be prevented by HPV vaccination and routine cervical cancer screening. Yet, there is no popular acceptance of immunization among women in India, with the immunization rate hovering below 10%.

“HPV vaccination is a safe and effective way to prevent cervical cancer. Because HPV is transmitted sexually, the HPV vaccine offers optimum protection when given before a person becomes sexually active. Routine HPV vaccination is recommended for girls starting at age 11 or 12 years. HPV vaccination is recommended up to age 26 years. Some adults between 27-45 years of age, who are not already vaccinated, may get the HPV vaccine after talking with their doctor about their risk of new HPV infections,” said Dr. Vidya V Bhat.

She added: “Routine cervical cancer screening with HPV test and PAP smear test is also an important way to prevent cervical cancer. Because HPV vaccination doesn’t protect against all HPV types that can cause cervical cancer, one should get oneself screened at regular intervals. It is recommended that women undergo PAP smear test once every 3 years and HPV DNA test every 5 years.”

The incidence of cervical cancer in India is 18 per 100,000 population, accounting for 18.3% of all cancers in the country. It peaks between 35-65 years of age. Women from poor socio-economic status are especially affected, according to the doctor. Symptoms of cervical cancer include watery or bloody vaginal discharge which may be heavy, continuous and foul smelling, vaginal bleeding after intercourse or between periods, and post-menopausal bleeding.

Recounting the various challenges in treatment of cervical cancer, Dr. Vidya V Bhat said thatmost women in India are neither immunized nor screened for the disease. The condition is especially prevalent among women of low socio-economic status, and most of them come for treatment at an advanced stage. Healthcare providers in rural areas are not properly trained about different screening methods. In addition, treatment for advanced stage of the disease is available only at tertiary centers, which are not easily accessible for most women in the country.

Dr. Vidya V Bhat added: “Infection from HPV, which is a group of 150 related viruses, is the most important risk factor of cervical cancer. Women who become sexually active at a young age, especially before 18 years of age, and those who are using oral contraceptives for a long time are also susceptible to this disease.”

IKEA India introduces its first external Click and Collect point in Electronic City, Bengaluru in collaboration with logistic partner GATI

Bengaluru, January 2023: IKEA India has launched its first External Collection Point for their Click and Collect orders in Bengaluru’s Electronic City, managed by its logistic partner GATI. This will further enable customers to get access to IKEA products in an affordable and convenient way. IKEA is online in Bengaluru since June 2021 and opened a 400,000+ sq ft store in Nagasandra in June 2022.

How to order: A click and collect order are placed same way as an Ecom order

  • Select articles and add to cart
  • Open shopping cart
  • Customers to select how they want to receive order:  Click and Collect or Delivery
  • For Click and Collect, customer to make an online payment for the products listed along with a nominal shipping fee of INR 200
  • In case customers wish to opt for home delivery, they need to enter their zip code and based on the weight of the order, they can see the price of the delivery.

Customers can order the products on IKEA’s website, pay online, select the ‘Click & Collect service’ option and click on the ‘External Collection Point’ when checking out. IKEA will prepare their order to be collected from the selected Collection Point.

The customers can place an order at any time. Orders placed before 7pm can be picked up the next day between 9am and 9pm at the External Collection Point in Electronic City, while those placed after 7pm will be delivered within two days. A nominal shipping fee of INR 200 will be charged, regardless of the size or weight of your products ordered, which is one of its key benefits.

The customers can also return the goods at the External Collection Point through Click and Collect for free of cost after calling and getting confirmation from our Customer Centre.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಭಾನುವಾರ 08,01.2023: 108ನೇ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಜ್ಯೋತಿಷ್ಯ, ವಾಸ್ತು, ಸಂಖ್ಯಾಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ಹಸ್ತಸಾಮೂದ್ರಿಕ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಪಟ್ಟ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಗಾರ ಇಂದು ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ 9.30ಕ್ಕೆ ಜ್ಯೋತಿ ಬೆಳಗುವುದರ ಮೂಲಕ ಆರಂಭವಾಯಿತು.

ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ 9.30 ರಿಂದ ಸಂಜೆ 5.30ರವರೆಗೆ ನಡೆಯಲಿರುವ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಗಾರವನ್ನು ಬೆಂಗಳೂಲಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ರಾಮಕೃಷ್ಣ ಮಠದ ಹಿಂಭಾಗ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಭವನ, ಉದಯಭಾನು ಕಲಾ ಸಂಘದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಾಯಕಾರ ಗುರುಕುಲ, ಮೈಸೂರು ಹಾಗೂ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಜ್ಯೋತಿಷ್ಯರ ಹಾಗೂ ಜ್ಯೋತಿಷ್ಯ ಭೋದನಾ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಗಳ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಸಹಯೋಗದೊಂದಿಗೆ 108ನೇ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಜ್ಯೋತಿಷ್ಯ, ವಾಸ್ತು, ಸಂಖ್ಯಾಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ಹಸ್ತಸಾಮೂದ್ರಿಕ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಪಟ್ಟ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಗಾರವನ್ನು ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿ ನೂರಾರು ಹಿರಿಯ ಜ್ಯೋತಿಶಿಗಳ ಸಮ್ಮುಖದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.

ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಉದ್ಘಾಟನೆ : ಡಾ. ಅರುಳಾಳನ್, ಕಾಸ್ಮಿಕ್ ವಿಷನ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಪ್ರೊ. ಗಜೇಂದ್ರ, ಪ್ರದಾನ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿ, KSFAAI, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಡಾ.ಅನಂತರಾಘವನ್, ಅವಿನಿ ಅಷ್ಟೋ ಇನ್ಸಿಟ್ಯೂಟ್, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಡಾ. ಹಲದಾಸ್, ಕಾಸರ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ರವರಿಂದ ನೆರವೇರಿತು.

ಕಾರ್ಯಾಗಾರದ ವಿಷಯ : ವಿವಾಹ ಮತ್ತು ವಿವಾಹ ನಂತರ ಜೀವನ. ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸ : ಡಾ. ಮೂಗೂರು ಮಧುವೀಕ್ಷಿತ್, ಮೈಸೂರು, ಶಕುನ ಮತ್ತು ಬಣ್ಣಗಳು, ಡಾ. ರಾಮಮೂರ್ತಿ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ನಾಡಿ ಜ್ಯೋತಿಷ್ಯ, ಡಾ. ಪವನ್ ಶರ್ಮ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ವಾಸ್ತುಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, ಡಾ. ಬಾಲಸುಬ್ರಮಣ್ಯಂ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಜ್ಯೋತಿಷ್ಯ, ಶ್ರೀ ಇಂದ್ರಧನುಶ್, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಫಿರಮಿಡ್ ವಾಸ್ತು, ಶ್ರೀ ಅರವಿಂದ್ ರತನ್, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಸಂಖ್ಯಾಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, ಶ್ರೀ ಪ್ರದೀಪ್, ಕೆ.ಪಿ ಜ್ಯೋತಿಷ್ಯ, ಡಾ. ಅಂದ್ರ ಜೈನ್, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಪ್ರಶ್ನಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, ಡಾ. ಕುಮಾರ್ ವಶಿಷ್ಟ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಹಸ್ತಸಾಮುದ್ರಿಕಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಮೂಲಕ ವಿವರಣೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.

ಕಾರ್ಯಾಗಾರದ ಆಯೋಜಕರಾದ ಡಾ. ಮೂಗೂರು ಮಧುದೀಕ್ಷಿತ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕರು, ಶ್ರೀ ಮಾಯಕಾರ ಗುರುಕುಲ, ಮೈಸೂರು, ರು “ಕಾಯಾಗಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ ಜ್ಯೋತಿಶಿಗಳು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಪಡೆಯುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ” ಎಂದು ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಾ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.
