Bengaluru, July 29:
The Bangalore Schools Sports Foundation (BSSF) will represent Bengaluru and India at the 58th International Children’s Games (ICG) to be held in Hualien, Taiwan, from August 1 to 6. The Foundation will participate in the event for the 17th consecutive year, with a basketball team competing in this edition.
The International Children’s Games, recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), is an annual multi-sport event for athletes in the 12-15 age group. Hosted by cities across different countries, the Games bring together young sportspersons from around the world, providing them with an opportunity to compete at an international level while promoting cultural exchange and the Olympic values of friendship and fair play.
BSSF said it has been working to identify and nurture young sporting talent through its grassroots development programmes. The players selected for this year’s Games have undergone structured training and preparation ahead of the competition.
Elvis Joseph, Founder Director of BSSF, said participation in the Games would provide young athletes with valuable international exposure and an opportunity to compete against their peers from different countries.
“We are proud to represent Bengaluru and India once again at the International Children’s Games. The experience gained from competing on a global stage will contribute significantly to the athletes’ development, both on and off the field,” he said.
Since 2009, BSSF, through its Track & Field Academy and in association with schools and athletics clubs across Bengaluru, has facilitated the participation of young athletes in the International Children’s Games. The Foundation said its continued involvement reflects its efforts to promote grassroots sports and create pathways for talented children to compete internationally.
