Advocates’ Association, Bengaluru, urges all associations across Karnataka to join protest and demand stronger legal protection

BENGALURU: Expressing serious concern over the growing attacks on members of the legal fraternity, the Advocates’ Association, Bengaluru, has announced a statewide protest on November 3, 2026, demanding stronger security measures and effective legal protection for advocates.
The decision follows the recent brutal murder of advocate Sri Manjunath Sriram in Whitefield and advocate Sri Manjunath of Annapoorneshwari Nagar, as well as an alleged attempt to murder advocate Sri Venkatramana Sannaki of Gauribidanur. The incidents have raised serious concerns about the safety of advocates while discharging their professional duties.
Addressing a press meet organised at the Press Club of Bangalore, office-bearers of the Association strongly condemned the attacks and stressed that advocates must be able to perform their professional responsibilities without fear, threats or intimidation.
The Association stated that its General Body Meeting, held on October 29, 2026, had unanimously decided to abstain from court work on Tuesday, November 3, as a mark of protest against the inadequate security faced by advocates.
A key demand of the protest is to strengthen the existing Advocates Protection Act through effective legislative provisions to ensure the safety and security of advocates and prevent attacks on members of the legal profession.
The Association has appealed to all Advocates’ Associations across Karnataka to participate in the November 3 protest and extend their full cooperation to make the movement successful.
The press meet was attended by Association President Vivek Subba Reddy, General Secretary H.V. Praveen Gowda, Vice-President Girish Kumar C.S. and Treasurer Shwetha Ravishankar, who reiterated the need for collective action to protect the legal fraternity.
The Association emphasised that ensuring the safety of advocates is essential not only for the legal community but also for upholding the independence of the justice delivery system.
