Namma Bengaluru Foundation (NBF) opposes the proposal to reduce Eco Sensitive Zone (ESZ) of Bannerghatta National Park (BNP)

Bengaluru, Feb 24, 2020: BNP has a crucial multi-faceted role to play in the lives of Bengalureans. BNP not only serves as the Wildlife corridor but also being one of few green spaces closer to Bengaluru, is vital to maintaining the ecological balance, reducing the temperature (heat island effect) and pollution and thus enhancing overall quality of life for the people of Bengaluru.

It is unfortunate that the government has now asked the Ministry of Environment and Forestry & Climate Change (MOEF&CC) to notify a reduced ESZ of 168.84 Sq Kms against the original 268.96 Sq Kms. ESZ is the protective layer of BNP without which BNP will get fragmented and disintegrate. Reduction of ESZ has direct negative consequences on the health and happiness of people of Bengaluru. This will obstruct wildlife corridor and result in man animal conflicts. It will cut water streams feeding Cauvery and our taps will run dry sooner than later. We already have Asthma in 25% children in Bengaluru. Does the government want more children in Bengaluru to become Asthmatic?

The government should “see this ground reality” through the eyes of its citizen. Not through the eyes of vested interests. The government seems to be ill advised by these antisocial elements on this matter. It looks as though you vested interests want an Akrama Sakrama scheme implemented in disguise at BNP by reducing the ESZ. The government can’t and shouldn’t allow this regressive antipeople measure. The State government should heed to the advice of High Court, Supreme Court & the Union Government. It should honour the will of its people. The request to notify a reduced ESZ should be immediately withdrawn.

We, NBF and the citizen of Bengaluru request the government that this request to MOEF&CC to notify a reduced SEZ is withdrawn immediately and the 268.96 sq km ESZ be retained for the sake Bengaluru and its children.

ROTARY PEACE WALK 3.0

Rotarians of District 3190, will be celebrating 115h anniversary of Rotary International, marking the start of the journey of Service to humanity in a novel manner on 23d February 2020. About 50+ Rotary clubs from the Rotary International District 3190 will celebrate the oldest and premier not for profit organization’s anniversary through a ROTARY PEACE WALK. Many Rotarians will be adorned in International Peace Icons costume such as Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Malala Yusufi, Aung San Suu Kyi, etc. and the rest in white shirt. Peace Icons costume is to signify the first of Rotary’s 6 focus areas- Peace & Conflict Resolution.

The District Governor Rtn. Dr. Sameer Hariyaniwill flag off ROOTARY PEACE WALK by 7:30am on Sunday, 23 February 2020. The Rotarians from the District 3190 will march with FI. Lt. Rtn. PDG K P Nagesh, PDG Rtn. Asha Prasanna Kumar, DGE Rtn. Nagendra Prasad, DGN Rtn. Fazal Mahmood, Dist. Directorsfrom various focus areas and 50+ Club Presidents and members. The walk will start from Freedom Park towards Mysore Bank Circle and return, which is approximately 3KMS. About 100+ plus Rotarians, Anns, Annettes, Rotaractors & Interactors would participate and walk peacefully from 7:30am to 7:50am. Besides the PEACE ICON costumes, the Rotarians would carry various posters and banners depicting community service projects and initiatives. Particularly, End Polio & TEACH will be proudly showcased by the participants in the public during morning walk. A variety of community service projects would be displayed, each one having its uniqueness of touching our lives somewhere, somehow either directly or indirectly. Besides being a visual treat for the onlookers and daily commuters, its open for public to join the walk. The event will be peacefully escorted by Bengaluru Central Traffic Police department followed by cake cutting and releasing of 115 helium filled balloons in white, blue and yellow. The balloons will be tied to Rotary Wheel and released by the Rotary District Governor Rtn. Dr. Sameer Hariani and other dignitaries after the return to Freedom Park amphitheater. It would be a very happy, united and peaceful atmosphere of celebration of a century plus old organization ROTARY INTERNATIONAL on a Sunday!

Fifth edition of Mahindra Club Challenge set to dazzle off-roading enthusiasts in Bengaluru

Competition to be held in Bengaluru for the first time
Big prize money of Rs 10 lakh

February 21, 2020, Bengaluru:

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M), a part of the US$ 20.7 billion Mahindra Group, will host the fifth edition of the Mahindra Adventure ‘Club Challenge 2020’ in Bengaluru, where top-15 off-roading clubs from across the country, will fight for the coveted title of the ‘Best Off-Roading Club’ in India. The obstacles will focus on teamwork rather than on individual performances. The top three teams will take home a grand prize money.

The ‘Club Challenge’ is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, February 22nd, 2020 with exciting night stage from 5:00 PM till midnight. The next day, Sunday, February 23rd, 2020 will witness the day stages between 09:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

There are two new stellar obstacles that will be seen this year in addition to signature obstacles such as ‘Demolition Derby’ and ‘Pass the Baton’ which will continue at this year’s Club Challenge.

According to Bijoy Kumar Y, Chief, Adventure Initiatives, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, “The off-roading community in the country has grown at a steady pace over the last decade. With ‘Club Challenge’, we are delighted to see the passion of off-roading enthusiasts from chapters of other cities fight for the title of “Best off-roading club”. After the success of previous editions, this year too participants come together to celebrate the tough & rugged DNA of Mahindra vehicles and strengthen the bond between various off-roading clubs.”
