“Dyson launches the Airblade 9kJ” – Fast energy efficient HEPA-filtered hand dryer-

Bengaluru, November 14th: Today, Dyson launches the Dyson Airblade 9kl hand dryer, afast energy efficient HEPA-filtered hand dryer. With a completely unique design and cutting-edge technology, the Dyson Airblade9k hand dryer enables people to dry their hands quickly and hygienically, while using low energy and offering an alternative to single-use paper towels.

“At Dyson we believe hand drying should be fast, hygienic and responsible in its energy use. We solved many of these problems when we disrupted the industry with the launch of the first Dyson Airblade T in 2006,” explains Jake Dyson, Chief Engineer. “We continue to pioneer with the Dyson Airblade 9kJ – our latest hand drying technology. From the acoustics to its design, everything has been rethought to deliver the best performance without any compromise on user experience or hygiene.”

The Dyson Airblade 9kJ hand dryermachine has been overthree years in development, with more than 700 prototypes made. The result is the quietest Dyson AirbladeT hand dryer yet, with fast hand drying in 10 seconds. Our motor and airflow technology allow the new Dyson Airblade 9kJ hand dryer toproduce up to 85% less carbon dioxide emissions per dry than paper towels in Eco mode.

“It is the instinct of engineers to want to improve things, make them more efficient and to use fewer resources in the process. It is wired into our DNA and it is this urge which drives progress and advancement even in the washroom,” explains James Dyson. “In 1907 paper towels were first introduced, and the electric hand dryer made its first appearance in 1948 – but both have their failings. The journey to find a better way is fascinating. In 2006 the invention of Dyson AirbladeTM technology meant that, for the first time, water was scraped off hands using high velocity unheated air thus reducing the energy consumption,” he adds.

As always with Dyson, success is in the detail and the intelligent combination of hardware and software. The Dyson Airblade 9kJ hand dryer’s robust design and stainless steel body is built to last and rigorously tested to withstand real-life washroom conditions. It alsoemploys pioneering Dyson technology including:

A Curved BladeT design Powered by the Dyson digital motor V4, which spins at up to 75 000rpm2 sheets of air flowup to 624 km/h2 throughtwo 0.45mm curved apertures that follow the contours of your hands, removing water in less time. Our powerful Dyson digital motor V4 shifts 23 liters of air per second, allowing the Dyson Airblade 9k) hand dryer to dry your hands fast, in 10 seconds.

Touch-free operation:The machine uses ‘Time of flight’ sensors that accurately detect hands to activate air.

A hygienic HEPA filtration: With a fleece-lined glass fiber HEPA filter, which captures up to 99.95% of particles the size of bacteria (0.3 microns)from the washroom air, the machine uses clean air to dry hands.

Acoustic engineering : Our quietest Dyson Airblade”hand dryer yet”, the Dyson Airblade 9kJ hand dryer features silencers made from open-cell foam and perforated discs, reducing noise as airflow passes through the motor.

To achieve the reduction in noise, Dyson re-designed the airflow paths through the machine, making them more direct and therefore reducing sound output.

The motor housing of the Dyson digital motor V4 regulates airflow paths through the motor, reducing noisy turbulence. The motor is mounted on silicon rubber to further reduce noise, and the specially designed open-cell foam silencers absorb vibrations from air entering and exiting the motor.

The Dyson Airblade 9kJ hand dryercosts US$1349 and is designed to suit any commercial or public washroom, from offices, shopping malls and restaurants, to public spaces, amusement parks, schools, hospitals and hotels.

Critical to address quality and safe surgery deficit through capacity building in order to ameliorate cleft burden: Smile Train India

The Smile Torch arrived in Bangalore on November 10 to spread awareness on cleft

Smile Train, the world’s largest cleft care charitable organization, along with its partner hospital, Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital announced key initiatives to address the current cleft burden in India. Currently, more than 35,000 babies are born with cleft lips and/or palates every year in India, and providing safe surgery for children at scale is critical, as Smile Train looks to support 1 million surgeries in the next ten years. The Smile Train Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Cleft Fellowship, in affiliation with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, is first-of-its-kind in Bengaluru. This will help in capacity building of young oral and maxillofacial surgeons to bridge the deficit for quality and safe cleft surgery. The fellowship will cover all the aspects of cleft care, including different types of surgical procedures and management of comprehensive cleft care.

In addition, Smile Train India and Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital organised a walkathon in support of children born with clefts, to coincide with the arrival of The Smile Torch to Bengaluru on Sunday, November 10, 2019. The Smile Torch was flagged off from Varanasi in February this year to commemorate the National Cleft Day on February 8, 2019 and has already travelled across 13 states of the country.

Smile Train has supported 38,000+ cleft surgeries in Karnataka since 2001, through its network of seven partner hospitals in Bengaluru, Belagavi, Mangaluru, Raichur, Gulbarga, Davangere and Dharwad. Lakhs of untreated cases of cleft exist in the country due to monetary constraints or lack of awareness. Smile Train India has supported 600,000+ cleft surgeries in India through a pan-India network of 150 partner hospitals.

Speaking on the occasion, Renu Mehta, Area Director, Strategic Projects – South Asia, SmileTrain said, “Since 2000, Smile Train has built a sustainable ecosystem to alleviate the cleft burden in India. This involves working with partner hospitals, government initiatives like the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) under the National Health Mission and through large scale awareness building initiatives like the Smile Torch.” She further added, “Partnering with the government is critical to achieve scale as the RBSK Program includes provisions for child health screening and early intervention services which is critical in the cleft conditions. Timely detection of cleft conditions is necessary for children to lead a healthy and productive life.”

Dr. Bonanthaya Krishnamurthy, a renowned oral and maxillofacial surgeon and Smile Train Project Director at Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital said, “Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital has been a proud partner of Smile Train India for 15 years. We have focused on and delivered comprehensive cleft care to nearly 9000 cleft patients. The launch of the Fellowship is a significant step in capacity building and we hope it will be a benchmark for other hospitals in Smile Train’s network to follow.”
