Alstom kicks-off Low Emission Access to Public Transport (LEAP) program to enhance last-mile sustainable connectivity to metro stations in Bengaluru

Supported by WRI India, LEAP intends to improve access to Namma Metro and encourage people to choose sustainable modes of public transport
The pilot phase of the program will have 12 e-autos each at Yelachenahalli and Indiranagar stations, serving commuters in the radius of 4 kms from each station
The all-women fleet of electric autorickshaws will be managed by MetroRide, a start-up mentored under the Alstom’s Sustainability Incubation Program

28 February 2024- Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has introduced Low Emission Access to Public Transport (LEAP), a program under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, that aims to boost last-mile connectivity, encouraging greater public transport usage. As part of the pilot phase of the program, MetroRide will have electric autorickshaws deployed as last-mile service from Yelachenahalli and Indiranagar stations, of the Namma Metro in Bengaluru. As a step to encourage and include women in the urban mobility landscape, MetroRide, an AI-powered EV ride hailing solution for daily commuters, has trained around 25 women drivers to drive the electric rickshaws in the said region. The rides can be booked through the MetroRide app.

The program was inaugurated by Olivier Loison, Managing Director, Alstom India, Mr. Srinivas Alavilli, Fellow, WRI India, Mr. Rajeev Gowda Vice Chairman, State Institute for the Transformation of Karnataka, and Smt. Kalpana Kataria, Executive Director (Connectivity & Asset Management), Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited.

Speaking at the launch of the program, Olivier Loison, Managing Director, Alstom India said, “Namma Metro will play a significant role in easing the on-road movement challenges in Bengaluru and as leaders in sustainable mobility, there could be no better way for us to encourage public transport than LEAP. Through our partnership with WRI India and leveraging the innovations brought to the table by an Alstom-mentored startup, MetroRide, we have taken a noteworthy step in bridging the last mile connectivity challenge with this program. Together, we’ll leverage innovation and expertise to implement solutions that elevate the metro experience, making it more accessible, efficient, and environmentally friendly”.

Bengaluru is one of the world’s most congested cities and has the highest number of private cars in India. While the metro service has rapidly expanded over the years, a recent WRI India survey has revealed that 70% of commuters were deterred by poor last-mile connectivity to Bengaluru Metro. Women, constituting only a fraction of metro commuters, face additional challenges due to unsafe or inconvenient last-mile connections and chronic underrepresentation in the male-dominated transport workforce. LEAP aims to address these concerns by not only improving access to Bengaluru Metro for women but also actively contribute to enhancing women’s participation in the transport workforce as drivers, fostering a more inclusive and sustainable urban mobility landscape.

Mr. Srinivas Alavilli, Fellow, WRI India said, “Our collaboration with Alstom and MetroRide is founded on a commitment to data-driven decision-making in public transport. WRI India’s pivotal role in LEAP’s success includes conducting detailed commuter surveys, as well as facilitating focus group discussions with both commuters and auto drivers. Their ongoing support also extends to working in close collaboration with MetroRide to design and test LEAP’s operating model, evaluating the service’s progress, and analysing insights, which helps contribute to the project’s data-driven approach and overall effectiveness.

Alstom continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable mobility through strategic investments via the CSR route. The partnership with NRSCEL, IIM Bangalore’s incubation centre for StartUps, manifests in the Sustainability Incubation Program, a pioneering initiative supporting startups dedicated to combating climate change and addressing diverse sustainability and mobility challenges. The first cohort of the Sustainability Incubation Program successfully shortlisted and nurtured ten ventures and the second cohort of the program is currently ongoing.

Building on this, Alstom has introduced LEAP as a flagship program under its impact pillar, aimed at solving the last-mile connectivity issues and advancing the adoption of sustainable mobility in India. This program is expected to soon cover other metro stations that will help increase metro ridership by provide connectivity to high-frequency hubs.

Bengaluru, Karnataka, February 28, 2024 – On the occasion of National Science Day, in keeping with the momentum of the National Education Policy 2020’s fundamental principle of research as a corequisite for outstanding education and development, GITAM Bengaluru has inaugurated the Multidisciplinary Unit of Research on Translational Initiatives (MURTI) Research Centre today.

This pioneering multidisciplinary research initiative brings together top minds to collaborate, innovate, and drive meaningful change. By bringing together researchers from various fields onto a common platform, MURTI aims to harness the collective expertise of researchers from varied backgrounds to tackle challenges that transcend individual disciplines.

The launch event witnessed the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Kota Harinarayana, Programme Director, and Chief Designer of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas program, along with Christopher W. Hodges, Consul General of the U.S. Consulate in Chennai. GITAM Vice Chancellor Prof. Dayananda Siddavattam, and ProVC Bengaluru Campus Prof. KNS Acharya added prominence to the event.

Dr. Kota Harinarayana, renowned engineer, academician, and Programme Director and Chief Designer of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas program, said, “There is a need for total rethinking about how sustainable technology must grow. I am happy GITAM has established (MURTI) in a record time. It is the right beginning with 13 areas that have been identified, and these are the areas where we make a change. Not only GITAM but also society at large will benefit. Our aim is now to connect the university with industry and the society.”

He further added “There is a need to re-engineer the engineering. It is a fundamental need. The way we generate energy, the way we store energy, the way we transmit energy, the whole thing has to be re-looked at. I believe that Mr. Christopher W. Hodges’ presence should ensure a strong collaboration between U.S. academia, U.S. industry, Indian academia, Indian industry, and, in general, the society at large.”

U.S. Consul General Chennai Christopher W. Hodges, highlighted, “MURTI is the kind of integrated and dynamic research model we need for innovation and partnership that helps drive our economies and relationship forward.”

ProVC, GITAM, Bengaluru Campus, Prof. KNS Acharya emphasized, “Research and Development is incredibly crucial for academic institutions in India. It is pivotal in fostering innovation, advancing knowledge, and keeping academic curriculums and programs updated with the latest developments. It addresses critical challenges, fostering entrepreneurship, and developing solutions for industry and society. Viewed from the perspective of student-centered education, the MURTI initiative empowers students to transcend mere memorization and actively engage in real-world problem-solving within cutting-edge laboratory settings. Vice-Chancellor, GITAM, Prof. Dayananda Siddavattam, remarked, “MURTI aims to create an interdisciplinary research culture under the leadership of eminent scholars, young researchers, and enthusiastic students to work on pressing global issues with local relevance. The university has invested 100 crores to upgrade the research infrastructure and to recruit young, talented research students from across the country as MURTI Excellence fellows. Bengaluru MURTI is destined to transform into a MURTI science park to create a knowledge hub and become an epicenter to generate knowledge technologies required to aid the region’s sustainable development. The MURTI Centre will actively collaborate with world-renowned research institutes like the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCAR), and Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) and a galaxy of software and hardware industry leaders to find solutions to some of the pressing problems of modern societies. The Centre will collaborate with the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, to bring AI-assisted agricultural practices to revolutionize crop protection, crop management, water conservation, and post-harvest technologies.”

The inauguration of the MURTI Research Centre signifies the institution’s commitment to fostering multidisciplinary collaboration and cutting-edge research. The centre aims to address global challenges and drive innovation with 6 key focus areas spanning Basic Sciences, Mobility Technologies, Materials and Manufacturing, Communication Technologies, Agriculture Technologies, and Sensor Technologies. The MURTI Research Centre boasts 13 modern labs equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and staffed with faculty and researchers from renowned global universities. ತಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಾ ತಮಗೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ತಿಳಿದಿರುವಂತೆ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ 45 ಲಕ್ಷ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಷ್ಟು ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮ ಸಮಾಜ ಇದೆ. ಈ ಹಿಂದಿನಿಂದಲೂ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಅಳಿದಂತ ಸರಕಾರಗಳು ನಮ್ಮ ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ಆರ್ಥಿಕವಾಗಿ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕವಾಗಿ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕವಾಗಿ ನ್ಯಾಯ ಕೋಡಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ನ್ಯಾಯಯುತವಾದ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡಲೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಕಳೆದ ಹತ್ತಾರು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಸಮಾಜದ ಹಲವಾರು ಸಂಘಟನೆಗಳು ಹೋರಾಟ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಲೇ ಬಂದಿದ್ದರೂ ಸಹ ಸರ್ಕಾರಗಳು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಗಂಭೀರವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಸರ್ಕಾರಗಳ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲೇ ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ತುಂಬಾ ಭರವಸೆ ಇಟ್ಟಿರುವಂತಹ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಸಕಾರವು ಸಹಾ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ನಮಗೆ ಅತಿಯಾದ ನೋವುಂಟು ಮಾಡಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಿಂದುಳಿದ ವರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾವು ಹುಟ್ಟಿರುವುದೇ ನಮಗೆ ಶಾಪವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಭಾಸವಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.ಸರ್ವರಿಗೂ ಸಮಪಾಲು ಸರ್ವರಿಗೂ ಸಮಬಾಳು ಎಂಬ ತಳಹದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬದುಕಬೇಕಾದ ನಾವುಗಳು ಕಾಡಿಬೇಡಿ ಬದುಕುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭ ಬಂದಿರುವುದು ನಮ್ಮ ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಿರುವುದು ದುರ್ದೆವ, ಜಾತಿ ಧರ್ಮ ನೋಡದೆ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಪಂಚ ಕಸುಬುಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುವ ನಾವುಗಳು ಹಲವಾರು ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಡುವ ಮೂಲಕ ದೇಶದ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಗೆ ಅಪಾರ ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿರುವ ನಾವುಗಳು ವೇದಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಗಳಿಕೆಗಳಿಗಷ್ಟೇ ಸೀಮಿತವಾಗಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಯಾವ ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಮೇಲೆತ್ತುವ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಕಳೆದ 6ನೇ ತಾರೀಖು ಮಾನ್ಯ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಸಿದ್ದರಾಮಯ್ಯರವರನ್ನು ಸಮಾಜದ ಸ್ವಾಮೀಜಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಮುಖಂಡರುಗಳ ನಿಯೋಗ ಸಮಾಜದ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ, ಆರ್ಥಿಕ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಸಣ್ಣಪುಟ್ಟ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದೆವು. ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿ ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ದಿ ನಿಗಮದ ಬಾಕಿ ಇರುವ ಸಾಲವನ್ನು ಮನ್ನಾ ಮಾಡುವುದು, ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ನಿಗಮಕ್ಕೆ 100 ಕೋಟಿ ರೂಗಳ ಅನುದಾನವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವುದು, ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸಾಧಕರ ಮಹನೀಯರ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಗಳು ವಿಧಾನಸೌಧದ ಆವರಣದಲ್ಲಿರುವಂತೆ ಶಿಲ್ಪಕಲೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ನಾಡಿಗೆ ದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಅಪಾರ ಕೀರ್ತಿ ತರುವಂತಹ ಅಮರಶಿಲ್ಪಿ ಜಕಣಾಚಾರಿ ರವರ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುವುದು, ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ನಿಗಮದ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಮಾಜದ ಪ್ರತಿಭಾವಂತ ವಿದಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಯುಪಿಎಸ್‌ಸಿ/ಕೆಪಿಎಸ್‌ಸಿ ತರಬೇತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುವುದು. ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮ ಬಡಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಉತ್ತರ ಮತ್ತು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ತಲಾ ಒಂದರಂತೆ ವಿಶ್ವಕರ್ಮ ವಸತಿ ಶಾಲೆಯನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿಕೊಡುವುದು. ಹೀಗೆ ಒಟ್ಟು 12 ಬೇಡಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಬಜೆಟ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಘೋಷಣೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುವಂತೆ ಮನವಿ ಮಾಡಿದರೂ ಸಹಾ ಇವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದನ್ನಾದರೂ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳು ಈಡೇರಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಮಾಜದ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ದಿಗಾಗಿ ಸಂಘಟನಾ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತಿರುವ ನಾವುಗಳು ಪ್ರಜಾಪ್ರಭುತ್ವ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಕೂರಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಮಾಜದ ಬಂಧುಗಳಿಗೆ ನ್ಯಾಯ ಒದಗಿಸಲು ಸ್ವಾಮೀಜಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮುಖಂಡರುಗಳ ತೀರ್ಮಾನದಂತೆ ಈ ನಮ್ಮ ನ್ಯಾಯಯುತ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಈಡೇರಿಸುವಂತೆ ಸಮಾಜದ ಸರ್ವ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಜಿಗಳ ನಿಯೋಗ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಜದ ಮುಖಂಡರುಗಳೆಲ್ಲರೂ ದಿನಾಂಕ 04.03.2024 ರಿಂದ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಫ್ರೀಡಂಪಾರ್ಕ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಅನಿರ್ಧಿಷ್ಟಾವಧಿ ಧರಣಿಯನ್ನು ಹಮ್ಮಿಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ನಮ್ಮ ಹೋರಾಟವು ತೀಕ್ಷ್ಯಗೊಳ್ಳುವ ಮೊದಲೇ ನಮ್ಮ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಈಡೇರಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಒಂದು ವೇಳೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ಪುನಃ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷಿಸಿದರೆ ಹೋರಾಟವನ್ನು ರಾಜ್ಯಾಧ್ಯಂತ ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸುವಂತೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ಕರೆಕೊಟ್ಟು ಬೀದಿಗಿಳಿದು ನಮ್ಮ ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಾಗಿ ನಾವು ಹೋರಾಟವನ್ನು ತೀವ್ರಗೊಳಿಸಲು ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದು ತಮ್ಮ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ಸರ್ಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ ಎಂದು ಸಮಾಜದ ವತಿಯಿಂದ ತಿಳಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.

ದಿನಾಂಕ: 17-12-2021 ರಂದು ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಖಾಲಿ ಇದ್ದ 88 ದಂತ ಆರೋಗ್ಯಾಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳ ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳ ಭರ್ತಿಯ ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯ್ಕೆಗೊಂಡಿರುವ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಹಣ ಕೊಟ್ಟು ರೋಸ್ಟರ್ ಕಂ ಮೆರಿಟ್ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯನ್ನು ಪಾಲಿಸದೇ ಅಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ ಆಯ್ಕೆಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದು, ಅಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗಿಯಾಗಿರುವವರಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಜಿ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಸಚಿವರಾದ ಡಾ.ಕೆ.ಸುಧಾಕರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಸದಸ್ಯ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿ, ವಿಶೇಷ ನೇಮಕಾತಿ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಆಡಳಿತಾಧಿಕಾರಿ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಕುಟುಂಬ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ಸೇವೆಗಳು ಆದ ಜಿ.ಎನ್.ಮಂಜುನಾಥಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಹಾಗೂ ವಿಶೇಷ ನೇಮಕಾತಿ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸಿಬಬಂದಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಇವರಿಗೆ ಹಣ ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ವಿವಿದೆಡೆ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ದಂತ ವೈದ್ಯಾಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳ ವಿರುದ್ದ ಕಾನೂನು ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಂಡು ನಿಜವಾದ ಅರ್ಹ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ನ್ಯಾಯ ಒದಗಿಸಲು ಕೋರುತ್ತೇವೆ.

ಮೇಲ್ಕಂಡ ವಿಷಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಖಾಲಿ ಇದ್ದ 88 ದಂತ ವೈದ್ಯಾಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳ ನೇಮಕಾತಿ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಅಧಿಸೂಚನೆ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ 65.9f.d/71/ 63.2.65/2019, 값: 16-06-2020 鳥 ঘন্ট: 25-08- 2020 ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಕುಟುಂಬ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ಅಂತಿಮ ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾದ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಇವರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮೇಲೆ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಿರುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಶಾಮೀಲಾಗಿ ರೋಸ್ಟರ್ ಕಂ ಮೆರಿಟ್ ಪಾಲಿಸದೇ ಅಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾಗಿ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾಗಿ ಮೆರಿಟ್ ಇದ್ದು ಅನ್ಯಾಯಗೊಂಡ ಇನ್ನು ಹಲವಾರು ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಈ ಹುದ್ದೆಯಿಂದ ವಂಚಿತರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರಿಗೆ ಅನ್ಯಾಯವಾಗಿದೆ ಈ ಅನ್ಯಾಯವನ್ನು ಸರಿಪಡಿಸಲು ಮಾನ್ಯ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳಿಗೆ, ಉಪ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಯವರಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಸಚಿವರಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಾನೂನು ಸಚಿವರಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಮುಖ್ಯಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಗಮನಕ್ಕೆ ತಂದರೂ ಕೂಡಾ ಇನ್ನು ಯಾವುದೇ ಕ್ರಮ ಜರುಗಿಸಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಗೂ ಈ ಪ್ರಕರಣವನ್ನು ಮಾನ್ಯ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಸಚಿವರಿಗೆ ಮನವಿ ಮಾಡುವುದೇನೆಂದರೆ ಸಿ.ಐ.ಡಿ ತನಿಖೆಯನ್ನು ಮುಕ್ತವಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ತಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಅನ್ಯಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಗಾದ ದಂತ ವೈದ್ಯಾದಿಕಾರಿಗಳ ಪರವಾಗಿ ಆಗ್ರಹ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಅನ್ಯಾಯವಾಗಿರುವ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ನ್ಯಾಯ ಸಿಗಬೇಕೆಂದು ತಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ವಿನಯಪೂರ್ವಕವಾಗಿ ವಿನಂತಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎಂದು ಆರ್.ಆರ್.ಹೀರೆಮಠ,ಹೈಕೋರ್ಟ್ ವಕೀಲರು ಮತ್ತು ಕಾರ್ಯಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಶರಣ ವಕೀಲರ ವೇದಿಕೆ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಮತ್ತು ಡಾ||ನರಸಿಂಹಮೂರ್ತಿ,ದಂತ ವೈದ್ಯಾಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು, ಕಡೂರು ರವರು ಪ್ರೆಸ್ ಕ್ಲಬ್ ಆಫ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಪತ್ರಿಕಾ ಗೋಷ್ಠಿ ಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು..

Changing mindsets is essential to making ear and hearing care accessible

At the press meet held at Press club of Bangalore, Director of NAYAK’S SPEECH &HEARING CLUNIC Dr. M. S. L. Nayak said,March 3 is World Hearing Day, an important observance by the World Health Organization (WHO). This is an opportunity to raise awareness about how to prevent deafness and hearing loss; and promote ear and hearing care around the world.

The world hearing day 2024 will focus on overcoming challenges posed by societal misperceptions and stigmatizing mindsets through awareness-raising and information-sharing targeted at the public and health care providers.

The theme for 2024 is Changing Mindsets -“let’s make Ear and Hearing care: a reality for all!”

WHO recognizes that over 80% of people globally who require hearing care is not receiving it. Social misperceptions and stigmatizing mindsets are the factors that hinder efforts to prevent and address hearing loss.

The main objectives of the campaign will be to dispel misconceptions, provide evidence-based information to reshape public perceptions of hearing loss and facilitate access to ear and hearing care services to all who need it, as an essential health service.

Hearing loss adversely affects acquisition of speech-language, learning, academic, psychological, social, economic aspects of an individual and in turn national productivity. While children with hearing loss fall behind in academics, most adults face prospect of unemployment. Those who are lucky to be employed earn low wages. More ever, it can lead to all sorts of health problems, including depression and anxiety, and is linked with dementia.

HIGHLIGHTS

Worldwide hearing loss is on the rise and currently it affects 1.5 billion people and may increase 1.5-fold to 2.5 billion by 2050. While 1 in 4 will have some degree of hearing impairment, 1 in 10 people – will have disabling hearing loss by then.

430 million people – require rehabilitation (including 34 million children).

Among those older than 60 years; over 25% are affected by disabling hearing loss.

1 billion young people are at risk of avoidable hearing loss, and around 200 million suffering with preventable or treatable chronic ear infections.

63 million people in India, suffer from hearing loss. As per NSSO 2001 survey 291 persons (including large percentage of children in the 0 to 14 age group) per one lakh population have severe to profound hearing loss.

In Karnataka, we have 4 million people (including 20,839 children in 0-6 years) with it.

While half of the cases are preventable, unaddressed hearing loss poses an annual cost of nearly US$I trillion globally towards educational, social support and lost productivity

The sustainable development goals for 2030 requires that all people, including those with hearing loss and ear diseases, have access to high quality services without experiencing financial hardship

Scaling up services in the next 10 years, through the H.E.A.R interventions will require only an additional annual per capita investment of US $ 1.33. This is equivalent to an annual additional investment cost of over Rs.7000 crore for India alone.

. The resulting health gain will avert nearly 130 million DALYS (disability adjusted life years). Investment in car and hearing care is cost-effective; we can expect a return of nearly 16 international dollars for every 1 dollar invested.

National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness (NPPCD) was launched in 2007 and is being implemented in 558 of 797 (2023) districts throughout India. It is high time we strengthen and expand it for the entire country.

On this occasion, Nayak’s Speech and Hearing Clinic in collaboration with ENRICH (Regd.) Rehabilitation trust will launch a “Free Hearing Screening programme” for infants. The program is intended to make services more accessible to the public to assess and monitor the baby’s hearing health in its first three years of life.
