Increasing number of women and young people falling victim to lung cancer: Doctors

BENGALURU / July 29, 2024: India is seeing an increase in incidence of lung cancer, especially among women and younger age group. This is due to more and more women taking up smoking in the country, and the rising habit of early-age smoking in the younger age groups. Cases of lung cancer are also increasing in non-smokers and light smokers due to rising pollution levels and passive smoking. This was said by doctors of Sammprada Multi-speciality Hospital, Bengaluru, ahead of the World Lung Cancer Day.

Said Dr. Radheshyam Naik, Consultant Medical Oncologist & Hematologist at Sammprada Multi-speciality Hospital: “Over 80% of lung cancers are related to tobacco smoking in its various forms. The risk increases with the duration of smoking and the number of cigarettes one smokes per day. Early-age smoking raises the risk substantially. Exposure to carcinogens like asbestos, in addition to smoking, also increases the risk of lung cancer several-fold. Other important risk factors include passive smoking which accounts for 5% of lung cancers. Pollution from traffic and burning fossil fuels indoors for cooking also cause lung cancer, especially among non-smokers.”

Said Dr. Shivacharan P.V, Consultant Medical oncologist, The incidence of lung cancer is 5.6 in 100,000 population. It accounts for 5.9% of all cancers and 8% of all cancer-related deaths. Lung cancer is traditionally the disease of 4th and 5th decade of life. The highest proportion of cases are recorded in the age group of 55 to 64 years. About 20-25 % of lung cancer patients survive for 5 years or more, while only 10-15% survive for 10 years or more. The associated morbidity and mortality can be reduced by early diagnosis.

Said Dr. Vinod K Ramani, Preventive Oncologist at Sammprada Multi-speciality Hospital: “Most cases of lung cancer are diagnosed in Stages III and IV when it is already in advanced state. Only 20-30% patients get diagnosed in Stages 1 and II. There are several reasons for this.

Said Dr.Vishwajeeth Pai, Consultant  Medical oncologist, A proportion of smokers have chronic bronchitis which is difficult to differentiate from cancer, and hence they present themselves late to a doctor. Many cases of lung cancer get mistaken for tuberculosis initially. There is also reluctance among Indians to get screened for cancer regularly.”

Talking about the main challenges in treatment of lung cancer, Dr Varun Kumar, Consultant Radiation Oncologist at Sammprada Multi-speciality Hospital, said: “Many lung cancer patients are smokers, alcoholics or elderly people, with compromised lungs, liver and heart. The toxicity associated with therapy can be substantial and many patients are unable to tolerate it. Cost of therapy, especially of newer treatments like immune therapy, targeted therapy and anti-angiogenic treatment, can also be an issue for many patients. The efficacy of therapy is reduced if the patient seeks treatment in advanced stages of the disease. Many patients are addicted to tobacco and continue their smoking habit even during treatment.”

Added Dr Ajay GV, Consultant Radiation Oncologist at Sammprada Multi-speciality Hospital: “To effectively tackle the challenge of lung cancer, there should be regular screening of smokers supported by quit-smoking programs organized by the government and civil society. There also needs to be a change in attitude of physicians who should treat every patient with lung problems as a potential cancer patient.”

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಡಿ.ದೇವರಾಜು ಅರಸು ಹಿಂದುಳಿದ ವರ್ಗಗಳ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ನಿಗಮದಿಂದ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖ 1 ರಿಂದ 3 ರಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿರುವಂತೆ ಸುಮಾರು 120 ಕೋಟಿ ಅನುದಾನವನ್ನು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಂದುಳಿದ ವರ್ಗಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ ವಗ್ನಿಕುಲ ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯ ಮತ್ತು ತಿಗಳ ಜಾತಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳು ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕವಾಗಿ, ಆರ್ಥಿಕವಾಗಿ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕವಾಗಿ ಅಂದರೆ ವಿದೇಶಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಬಡ್ಡಿ ರಹಿತ ಸಾಲ ಯೋಜನೆ, ಅರಿವು ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಾಲ ಯೋಜನೆ, ಗಂಗಾ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ನಿರಾವರಿ ಯೋಜನೆ, ಕಿರು ಸಾಲ ಯೋಜನೆ, ಸ್ವಯಂ ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ವಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಸಾಲ ಯೋಜನೆ, ಚೈತನ್ಯ ಸಹಾಯಧನ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳ ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಗೊಂಡಂತಹ ಸುಮಾರು 120 ಕೋಟಿಗೂ ಅಧಿಕ ಹಣವನ್ನು ಮಾಜಿ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಎಂ.ಎಲ್.ಸಿ ಪಿ.ಆರ್. ರಮೇಶ್ ರವರು ವಗ್ನಿಕುಲ ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯ ಸಮುದಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಒಂದು ಶಾಲಾ ಕಾಲೇಜುಗಳಾಗಲಿ, ಸಮುದಾಯಭವನಗಳಾನ್ನಾಗಲೀ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸದೆ ತನ್ನದೇ ಆದ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಕಾರ್ಯಕರ್ತರ ಪಟ್ಟಾಲಂ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡು ಹಲವಾರು ವಗ್ನಿಕುಲ ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯ ಜಾತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ತಿಗಳ ಜಾತಿಯ ನಕಲಿ ಸಂಘ-ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ಹಾಗೂ ನಕಲಿ ಖಾತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಗೂ ನಕಲಿ ಫಲಾನುಭವಿಗಳನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಹಲವಾರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರ ಮತ್ತು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಗ್ರಾಮಾಂತರ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಮುಖಂಡರುಗಳ ಖಾತೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಪಕ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆಂಬಲಿಸುವ ನಾಯಕರ ಖಾತೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಕೋಟ್ಯಾಂತರ ಹಣವನ್ನು ವರ್ಗಾಯಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಭ್ರಷ್ಟಚಾರವೆಸಗಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಮಾನ್ಯ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳಾದ ಸಿದ್ದರಾಮಯ್ಯ ರವರ 2013 -14 ರ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು 85,00,00,000/- ಗಳ ಅನುದಾನವನ್ನು ಸರ್ಕಾರದಿಂದ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಗೊಳಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ಕುರಿತು ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ದಿನಾಂಕ:16-09-2022 ರಂದು ಲೋಕಾಯುಕ್ತದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇಸ್ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ COMPT/LOK/BCD/3553/2022 ರಂತೆ ಪ್ರಕರಣ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಸದರಿ ಭ್ರಷ್ಟಚಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ತುಮಕೂರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸುಮಾರು 2 ರಿಂದ 3 ಲಕ್ಷ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ತಿಗಳ ಜನಾಂಗದವರು ತಿಗಳ ಜಾತಿಯ ನಾಯಕರಾದ ಮಾಜಿ ಎಂ.ಎಲ್.ಎ ನೆ.ಲ. ನರೇಂದ್ರಬಾಬುರವರ ನಾಯಕತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ತುಮಕೂರು, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರ ಮತ್ತು ಗ್ರಾಮಾಂತರದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವು ಶಾಲಾ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಮತ್ತು ಸಮುದಾಯ ಭವನಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಆದರೆ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ 12 ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ 30 ಲಕ್ಷಕ್ಕೂ ಅಧಿಕ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆವುಳ್ಳ ವಗ್ನಿಕುಲ ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯ ಜಾತಿಗೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ರೀತಿಯ ಶಾಲಾ-ಕಾಲೇಜುಗಳಾಗಲಿ, ಸಮುದಾಯ ಭವನಗಳನ್ನಾಗಲೀ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಮಾಡದೇ ವಗ್ನಿಕುಲ ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯ ನಾಯಕ ಎಂದು ಬಿಂಬಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಂತಹ ಮಾಜಿ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಎಂ.ಎಲ್.ಸಿ ಪಿ.ಆರ್.ರಮೇಶ್ ರವರು ಭ್ರಷ್ಟಚಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿದ್ದು ವಗ್ನಿಕುಲ ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯ ಸಮಾಜ ಇಂದು ಶೋಷಣೆಗೆ ಒಳಗಾಗಿದೆ.

Bengaluru, 29 July: South India Garment Association (SIGA) is organising a national-level three-day garment fair from 30th July to 1st August 2024 ata Bangalore Palace Ground, Princess shrine Gate 9 in the city. The objective of the garment fair is to provide a platform for showcasing more than 150 brands of garments…

Speaking with the media on South India Garments Association president Anurag Singhla has said SIGA has been organising garment fair every year. “This is the 29th edition of garment fair. It has received a very good response from garment manufacturers all over India. We put up 150 stalls and all were booked one month ago. A number of garment manufacturers from Mumbai, Surat, Delhi, Jaipur, Bangalore, Ludhiana & Nagpur are participating in the garment fair showcasing their latest collections – wedding, festival as well as winter collection of garments. The garment fair is B2B and retailers & wholesale traders. Will be visiting the garment fair,” said SIGA president Anurag Singhla.

He said ZOLA from Mumbai are sponsors of the 29th SIGA Fair 2024. “Many garment manufacturers, including Reliance Retail Fashion Brand, are participating in the garment fair. We are expecting around 2500 retail wholesale traders to visit the garment fair and a booking festive, wedding & winter wear over of more than Rs 100 crore,” he said.

Rajesh Chawat, Secretary & Naresh Lakhanpal Vice-president of the South India Garments Association and Govind Mudra, convenor of the fair were present during the media briefing at press club of Bengaluru.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ಅಖಿಲ ಭಾರತ  ಕೆ-ಪಾಪ್ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆ 2024ರ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಪ್ರಾದೇಶಿಕ ಸುತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ 30 ತಂಡಗಳು ಹಿಟ್ ಆಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ 74 ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವವರು ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನು ವೀಕ್ಷಿಸಲು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಜನರು ಎP ನಗರದ ಒಐಖ ಕನ್ವೆನ್ಷನ್ ಸೆಂಟರ್‌ಗೆ ಶನಿವಾರ ನುಗ್ಗಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಕೆ-ಪಾಪ್ ಅಲೆಯು ಶನಿವಾರ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರನ್ನು ಅಪ್ಪಳಿಸಿತು.
ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಮಧ್ಯಭಾಗವು ವಿದ್ಯುನ್ಮಾನವಾಗಿತ್ತು ಮತ್ತು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಉದ್ಘಾಟನಾ ಸಮಾರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆ-ಪಾಪ್ ಸೆನ್ಸೇಷನ್ ಅವೂರಾ ವೇದಿಕೆಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರು ಹರ್ಷೋದ್ಗಾರದಿಂದ ಏರಿದರು. ಕೆ-ಪಾಪ್ ತಾರೆಯವರ 25 ನಿಮಿಷಗಳ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನವು ಅವರ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆಗಳಾದ ‘ಫೀಲ್ ದಿ ಪವರ್’, ‘ಲವ್ ಈಸ್ ರೈಟ್’, ‘ಜಿಮ್ಮಿ ಜಿಮ್ಮಿ’, ‘ಡ್ರೀಮರ್ಸ್’ ಮತ್ತು ‘ಔವಾ ಔವಾ’ಗಳನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿತ್ತು. ಆದಾಗ್ಯೂ, ಅವೂರಾ ಅವರ ಕಾರ್ಯದ ಶೋಪೀಸ್ ಅವರ ಹೊಸ ಹಾಡು ಘೋಷಣೆಯಾಗಿದೆ, ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ಟಾರ್ ಗ್ರೂಪ್ ಮತ್ತು ಜನಸಮೂಹವು ಉನ್ಮಾದಗೊಂಡಿತು.

ಅಖಿಲ ಭಾರತ ಕೆ-ಪಾಪ್ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆ 2024 ರ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಪ್ರಾದೇಶಿಕ ಸುತ್ತನ್ನು ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿದ ನಂತರ, ಪ್ರಾದೇಶಿಕ ಸುತ್ತಿನ ಕಾರವಾನ್ ಕೊಹಿಮಾ (ಜುಲೈ 28), ಕೋಲ್ಕತ್ತಾ (ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 3), ಇಟಾನಗರ (ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 10), ಮುಂಬೈ (ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 10) ಮೂಲಕ ಹಾದುಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಚೆನ್ನೈ (ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 11), ಹೈದರಾಬಾದ್ (ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 18), ನವದೆಹಲಿ (ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 18), ಅಹಮದಾಬಾದ್ (ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 25), ಭೋಪಾಲ್ (ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 1) ಮತ್ತು ಲಕ್ನೋ (ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 1). ಭಾರತದಾದ್ಯಂತ ವ್ಯಾಪಿಸಿರುವ ಪ್ರಾದೇಶಿಕ ಸುತ್ತುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 300ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸುವ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಿದೆ. ಎಲ್‌ಜಿ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತಪಡಿಸಿದ ‘ಅಖಿಲ ಭಾರತ ಕೆ-ಪಿಒಪಿ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆ 2024’ ರ ಗ್ರ‍್ಯಾಂಡ್ ಫಿನಾಲೆ ನವೆಂಬರ್ 23, 2024 ರಂದು ನವ ದೆಹಲಿಯ ಅತ್ಯಾಧುನಿಕ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾವೇಶ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ‘ಯಶೋಭೂಮಿ’ಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯಲಿದೆ. ವಿಜೇತರು ಗ್ರ‍್ಯಾಂಡ್ ಫಿನಾಲೆ ಕೊರಿಯಾಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡುವ ಅವಕಾಶವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ.
ಈ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಯ ನಂತರವೇ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಯಿತು ಮತ್ತು ಶೀಘ್ರದಲ್ಲೇ ಸಂಜೆಯ 30 ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವವರು ಮುಂದೆ ಬಂದು ತಮ್ಮ ಅಸಾಧಾರಣ ಕೌಶಲ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸಿದರು. ನಾಲ್ಕು ಸದಸ್ಯರ ಗುಂಪು, ಇನ್ಫಿನಿಕ್ಸ್, ಈಸ್ಪಾ ಅವರ ‘ಬ್ಲ್ಯಾಕ್ ಮಾಂಬಾ’ ಗೆ ನೃತ್ಯ ಮಾಡಿತು, ಆದರೆ ಏಳು ಸದಸ್ಯರ ತಂಡ, ಹೆಲೆಕ್ಸ್ ಬಿಟಿಎಸ್ ನ ‘ಬ್ಲಡ್ ಸ್ವೆಟ್ ಅಂಡ್ ಟಿಯರ್ಸ್’ ಗೆ ಗ್ರೂವ್ ಮಾಡಿತು. ಗಾಯನ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯಾಪಕ ಶ್ರೇಣಿಯ ಕೆ-ಪಾಪ್ ಹಾಡುಗಳು ಇದ್ದವು ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ವಯಂಪ್ರವಾ ಐಯುನ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ಟ್ರ‍್ಯಾಕ್ ‘ಲವ್ ವಿನ್ಸ್ ಆಲ್’ ಅನ್ನು ಹಾಡಿದರೆ, ಪವಿತ್ರಾ ಅವರು ಬಿಟಿಎಸ್ ಸದಸ್ಯ ಜಿನ್ ಅವರ ಟ್ರ‍್ಯಾಕ್ ‘ಯುವರ್ಸ್’ ಅನ್ನು ಹಾಡಿದರು. ನೃತ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಗಾಯನ ವಿಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಟ್ಟು 15 ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಗಳು ನಡೆದವು ಮತ್ತು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಪ್ರಾದೇಶಿಕ ಸುತ್ತಿನ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಿಗಳು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಿದ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆ ಅಸಾಧಾರಣವಾಗಿದೆ.
ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಪ್ರಾದೇಶಿಕ ಸುತ್ತಿನ ಗಾಯನ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಉನ್ನತ ಬಹುಮಾನವನ್ನು ಗಳಿಸಿದರು. ಈ ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವವರು ಈಗ ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ 19 ರಂದು ನವದೆಹಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯಲಿರುವ ಸೆಮಿಫೈನಲ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

The popular and most-sought after exam offers students from Class VII-XII the chance to earn up to 100% scholarships along with significant cash awards, helping them achieve their dreams of a successful career in medicine or engineering.

This year, an exciting addition includes a 5-day all-expenses-paid trip to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA, for five outstanding students. The John F. Kennedy Space Centre, located in Florida, is one of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) ten field centres in the United States.

Celebrating its 15th successful year, ANTHE has a distinguished record of nurturing top achievers. Over the years, many of its students have excelled in prestigious examinations, including top ranks in NEET UG and JEE Advanced. Some notable achievers who enrolled in Aakash through ANTHE and secured top ranks are: Rishi Shekhar Shukla (JEE Advanced 2024 AIR 25); Krishna Sai Shishir (JEE Advanced 2024 AIR 67); Abhishek Jain (JEE Advanced 2024 AIR 78) among others. ANTHE 2024 will take place from October 19-27, 2024, in both online and offline modes across 26 states and union territories in India. In addition to scholarships of up to 100%, top scorers will also receive cash awards.

ANTHE offline exams will be conducted on October 20 and 27, 2024 starting 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at all 315+ centers of Aakash Institute across the country while online exams can be taken from October 19 to 27, 2024 anytime during the exam window.  Students can choose a one-hour slot convenient to them. 

ANTHE will be a one-hour test carrying a total of 90 marks and comprising 40 multiple-choice questions based on the grade and stream aspirations of students. For Class VII-IX students, the questions will cover subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Mental Ability. For Class X students aspiring for medical education, the questions will cover Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mental Ability, while for engineering aspirants of the same class, the questions will cover Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Mental Ability. Similarly, for Class XI-XII students who aim for NEET, questions will cover Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, while for engineering aspirants they will cover Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. 

The last date for submitting the enrolment form for ANTHE 2024 is three days before the commencement of the online exam and seven days before the offline exam. The exam fee is INR 200 for both offline and online mode. Students can also avail a flat 50% discount on the registration fee if they register before 15th August 2024.

Results for ANTHE 2024 will be declared on November 08, 2024, for Class X students, November 13, 2024, for Class VII to IX, and November 16, 2024, for Class XI and XII students. The results will be available on our ANTHE website anthe.aakash.ac.in.
