IRDAI appoints Canara HSBC Life Insurance as lead insurer for Karnataka to increase insurance uptake

Company aims to envisage various insurance awareness strategies through transit advertisement, radio shows and wall graffiti within the state

Bengaluru, 18th August 2023: In a significant effort to enhance insurance awareness and improve insurance penetration in India, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has appointed Canara HSBC Life Insurance, as the lead life insurer for Karnataka and Delhi under its State Insurance Awareness Plan. To further discuss this agenda, meeting for Karnataka was organized by Canara HSBC Life Insurance in the presence of IRDAI officials and representative from Government of Karnataka along with the participation from the lead general insurance and health insurance partners in Bengaluru.

Focusing on the regulator’s vision of “Insurance For All by 2047,” the meeting brought together officials from IRDAI, government authorities, Canara HSBC Life Insurance and representatives from other insurance companies to brainstorm over the challenges and opportunities related to insurance outreach and how insurance uptake can be increased within the state with deployment of various marketing and educational initiatives.
The State Level Insurance Committee was formed under the Chairmanship of Deputy Secretary Fiscal reforms – Mr. Mohammed Ikramulla Shariff. The district leads for the District Level Insurance Committee was also appointed during the meeting.
Canara HSBC Life Insurance, as the lead life insurer, will be driving this along with lead general and lead health insurance companies operating in Karnataka to scale the insurance selling amongst the designated states. Additionally, collaborative efforts will be made with IRDAI and the State Government to raise awareness about existing government schemes and improve insurance availability at the district and state levels. The focus will be on enhancing insurance reach and accessibility throughout the states.
The company’s focus on Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and their efforts to work closely with the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) and the State Government will play a vital role in strengthening insurance uptake, particularly in tier 2 and 3 cities.
Canara HSBC Life Insurance is at the forefront of this endeavor and believes in empowering individuals through educational initiatives and engaging campaigns. In the upcoming months, the company plans to implement a series of marketing strategies aimed at enhancing the understanding of insurance products and services. Mr. Sunil Kurtkoti, Advisor (Financial Inclusion), Finance Department, Government of Karnataka present at the event stated “The State Level Insurance Committee certainly brings in several ideas for implementation of better insurance prospects within the state. The committee should ideally formulate a short term and medium term plan so that a more dedicated and synergized approach is followed within state for insurance awareness. PMJJBY is a measurable product and IRDAI can support the initiative by providing data on quarterly basis for Karnataka’s PMJJBY spread, this will eventually help the insurance companies to map their insurance penetration year on year. Motor insurance, crop insurance and property insurance are some of the crucial sectors which can also give insurance sector the much required boost. The regulator can promote a common portal similar to State Level Banking Committee where the information on progress of every district can be uploaded and measured on timely basis.”

INDIAN ARMY QUIZ 2023 – ‘BATTLE OF MINDS’ LAUNCHED TO COMMEMORATE 25th YEAR OF KARGIL VICTORY

Bangalore , 17th August 2023: In a momentous stride towards fostering knowledge and empowering the youth, the Indian Army proudly unveiled ‘Battle of Minds’ – Indian Army Quiz 2023 along with its captivating logo, at the Manekshaw Centre in Delhi Cantonment. To announce the commencement of 25th year of Kargil Vijay Divas celebrations, the quiz competition celebrates the victory of the Indian Armed Forces in the Kargil War rendering a heartfelt tribute to the bravery and courage of those who made that victory possible. This landmark initiative, symbolized by the newly revealed logo, underscores Army’s commitment to nurturing intellectual growth and inspiring young minds across the Nation. The event celebrates the past and aims to ignite a spirit of curiosity and learning among the youth, shaping the leaders of tomorrow.

The event was attended by Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar, Vice Chief of the Army Staff. The logo for the quiz competition was unveiled by Mrs Archana Pande, President AWWA. Param Vir Chakra Awardees Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Yogendra Singh Yadav (Retired) and Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar were also present along with Principals from schools across 36 states and Union Territories of India.

The initiative reaches out to approximately 1.5 lakh schools across the country with representation from all districts of India. It aims at registration by approximately 15000 schools. Thus, the competition is expected to engage approximately 1.5 crore students across the nation. Schools will participate with teams of three students plus one reserve. Teams from co-educational schools will have at least one female student. Participants will be in the age group 10 to 16 years (that is broadly standard six to ten). The contest will be conducted in a hybrid i.e. online and offline mode. Beginning at the regional Command level, the competition will then progress to the Inter-Command and finally culminate at the national level.

The competition will unfold in two stages, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of the participants. The first stage will commence with an online elimination round, where students will demonstrate their aptitude by tackling a series of intellectually stimulating questions. Successful contenders from the online round will then progress to the second stage, i.e. a regional Command-level offline competition culminating in the Grand Finale. This format guarantees an equitable and demanding assessment of the participants’ knowledge and capabilities, culminating in the discovery of the most deserving winners.

Conduct modality of the quiz competition focuses on five key elements, namely,

Inclusivity – open to all schools where the English language is primary or secondary medium of instruction;

Equity – ensuring a female participant from each co-ed school to promote balance;

Fair Play – uphold meritocracy, aided by accessible tutorials;

Free Registration; and

Attractive Prizes – notably, rewards for schools, students, and accompanying teachers, with prizes exceeding 4 crore rupees, including buses for the top 12 schools and over 360 laptops for students and teachers are on offer.

A robust student outreach programme through Teach India with an emphasis on pedagogy-based learning will propagate the broad message of the quiz. It will also highlight the role of the Indian Army in nation-building, the Kargil Victory and the ongoing transformations in the Indian Army in its aftermath.

This quiz goes beyond the concept of just testing the general awareness of students. It is a forum which provides a vibrant platform to the youth at the grassroot level to test their knowledge base of culture, science & technology and innovation. The quiz will also generate awareness among the students of the future role they have to play in nation-building.

The logo, name, and tagline of this initiative converge to encapsulate profound significance, resonating with the esteemed legacy of the Indian Army. The formation sign shape of the logo evokes an abiding sense of unity and discipline, while the base maroon colour with the metallic bronze colour border reflects strength and resilience.

The name “Battle of Minds” symbolizes intellectual vigour with the tagline emphasising victory, bravery and heroism. The crossed swords and Ashoka pillar signify readiness, duty, and honour which embody the indomitable spirit and dedication of the Indian Army.

The Tiranga Tunnel, a symbol of national unity and environmental consciousness, will be located at the entrance of the Southern Command Headquarters, Pune, honoring the prestigious Southern Command of the Indian Army. The tunnel embodies their commitment to sustainable development and ecological preservation. The arch has twelve exquisitely designed tunnels, each adorned with the colors of our national flag – Saffron and White bougainvillea representing courage and purity, and Green money plants symbolizing prosperity. The floral installations symbolize the unity and harmony that bind our diverse nation together. With a width of 13 meters and a towering height of 4.5 meters, the Tiranga Tunnel is a majestic monument connecting our glorious past with the promising future. Starting from the statue of revered Field Marshal Manekshaw, the Tiranga Tunnel will lead us to the entrance of the Headquarters.
Lieutenant General Ajai Kumar Singh, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Command, inaugurated the initiative on India’s 77th Independence Day, marking a historic step towards safeguarding the environment and showcasing the Indian Army’s commitment toward serving the nation and conserving biodiversity.
The anticipated outcomes of the Tiranga Tunnel include improved biodiversity conservation, increased awareness about ecological preservation, and setting a benchmark for sustainable development on military lands.

Shah inaugurated the Tiranga Yatra organized under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign

On Sunday, Central Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Tiranga Yatra organized under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. In his address, Shah stated, “Our ancestors struggled for a long time to attain independence for the country. Their sacrifice is a tradition for all the youth of the nation. In honour of the martyrs, from August 13th to August 15th, let’s make the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign successful by flying the flag in every home, making the tricolor a part of every household. Gujarat has a population of 60 million and nearly 10 million families. If every home flies the flag, then Gujarat and the country will become adorned with the tricolor.”

On this occasion, Shah urged the citizens to celebrate the “Azadi ka Amrit Kaal” from August 15, 2023, to 2047. Thousands of people participated in the program, holding flags in their hands, showcasing that the campaign initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ignite patriotism in the hearts of the citizens is indeed succeeding. Just like the previous year, this year as well, under the leadership of Modi and Shah, the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign is being carried out. As part of the “Meri Mati Mera Desh” program, youth from all over the country will bring soil and the tricolor to Delhi to present to the Prime Minister.

Shah emphasized that just like the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” became a means to unite and invoke patriotism, the “Meri Mati Mera Desh” campaign will make the dream of a self-reliant and developed India in the future. In the past 9 years, while the country has been achieving new heights of development, various campaigns have also been conducted to awaken the spirit of patriotism within the citizens. Through Modi’s leadership and Shah’s guidance, these campaigns are instilling the determination to make India great in the hearts of the people.
