“BIGHAAT LAUNCHES AN APP IN KANNADA” FOR THE BENEFIT OF FARMERS IN KARNATAKA

This app would be serving the entire farming community in the State

Bengaluru, 20th July 2022 – BigHaat, India’s largest Digital Agri Platform providing end-to-end farming solutions launched a mobile application in Kannada (www.BigHaat.com) to empower the farming community in Karnataka. The app was launched by Shri. Shivayogi C Kalasad, IAS, Secretary to Government, Agriculture Department, Bengaluru in the presence of Mr. Sateesh Nukala, CEO & Co-Founder, BigHaat. This app will enable farmers to interact in their native language and have access to knowledge and solutions, in a simplified manner, for their farming needs.

Speaking at the launch of the app, Shri. Shivayogi C Kalasad, IAS, Secretary to Government, Agriculture Department, Bengaluru said, “Agriculture in Karnataka provides livelihood to over 13 million farmers (as per a report by Population Census 2011). The state has a total of 114.54 lakh hectares of land available for cultivation, which constitutes 64.6% of the state’s total geographical area. While farming and agriculture are still practiced by most of the population, high-quality solutions have always been a challenge. With BigHaat’s app in Kannada, farmers can have access to a life-changing platform. This app will ensure technology is at the farmer’s fingertips enabling them to make informed decisions on cultivation.”

“Since 86% of India’s farmers belong to the small and marginal farmer category, communicating to the farmers for their localized needs in their own language helps them in faster decision making. The app in Kannada was developed to empower the farmers in the state with enriched data thus fulfilling their pre-harvest to post-harvest needs. It is our endeavour to provide a wholesome digital ecosystem for farmers by personalizing accessible solutions.” said Mr. Sateesh Nukala, CEO & Co-Founder, BigHaat.

The application also serves as a ‘farmer’s community platform’ to interact among themselves to democratize knowledge. The user interaction has been kept simple and helps farmers by enabling crop configuration and profiling based on acreage, geolocation, and soil type. It also offers end-to-end crop advisory in Kannada and an AI-based real-time solution with a high impact on risk mitigation. Further, the app also gives product recommendations based on transactional and behavioural data.

Sateesh added, “While 65% of the land is under cultivation in the state, the yield has not been at par with neighbouring states. This could be due to various factors, and we feel an aware farmer who has the right information can increase the yield substantially, contributing to the overall per capita yield of the state. BigHaat with its advanced technology and data insights can help provide solutions to the farming community in the language of their choice.”

R J Sankara Eye Hospital to conduct 6500 free eye surgeries this financial year

-Hospital performed over 3000 surgeries and examined 18903 patients in last one year-

Maharashtra, July 19, 2022: R. Jhunjhunwala Sankara Eye Hospital, that completed one year of its eye care services, said will conduct the 6500 free eye surgeries this year. The hospital successfully performed over 3000 free eye surgeries and examined a total of 18,903 patients in the outpatient department.

Over the last one year, doctors and specialists like paediatric ophthalmologist, cornea ophthalmologist, cataract ophthalmologist, retina specialist, glaucoma specialist, oculoplasty specialist and doctors of various disciplines of the hospital successfully performed various types of eye surgeries to give vision to the patients.

Honourable MLA of Panvel, Shri. Prashant G. Thakur who appreciated the work of the Hospital, said: “We thank the doctors and staff of the hospital for providing quality eye services. I would request the doctors to conduct cataract surgeries in our region which sees many such patients. I am sure that the hospital will take care of these needs and extend its service to the people and remain committed to society as it has always been.”

Dr. Rajesh Kapse, Unit Head of the Hospital, said: “We thank the government for its support to eye care services. We intend to take our work far and wide and have the vision of building a blind-free world. We follow the policy of 80 per cent and 20 per cent in which the 20 per cent would pay the costs for eye treatment, and through them we subsidize the treatment for rest of the population. We want the under-privileged and the needy to have access to low-cost but high-quality eye care.”

The Chief Medical Officer of the Hospital-Dr. Girish Budharani, Unit Head of the Hospital – Dr. Rajesh Kapse, and Public Eye Health Manager-Sachin Bhoomkar were also present and thanked everyone for making the celebration a success.

Apollo Cancer Centres celebrates Life After Cancer with Peak – to – Peak Initiative

Bengaluru , 19 July 2022 : With the mission to spread awareness about positive living after cancer treatment , Apollo Cancer Centres ( ACC ) , ranked as the best private cancer hospitals in India and one of the best in the world , celebrates ‘ Life after Cancer ‘ with its recent initiative ‘ Peak to Peak – Winning over Cancer ‘ a 5 – day trek with cancer survivors and caregivers . The initiative , which was flagged off from Dehradun in June 2022 , was centralized around to address negative associations attached to any patient who undergoes cancer therapy . Eight cancer survivors from different parts of the country embarked on a memorable journey from Dehradun to Dayara Bugyal in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand , traversing along the luscious green meadows and rich landscape to scale the height of 11,830 ft . Dr Rani Akhil Bhat , Lead Surgeon Consultant – Gynec Oncology , Apollo Cancer Centres and Archana Hosangadi ( 50 – year – old ) , one of the cancer survivors from Bengaluru who scaled a height of 11,830 ft . in Uttarakhand , were a part of the initiative . ” We , at the Apollo Cancer Centers , believe treating cancer is only a part of the journey ; we want to address the overlooked needs of our survivors . We wanted our cancer survivors to realize that they can still lead a normal life after cancer treatment , thus ‘ Peak to Peak ‘ was born . We had eight cancer survivors who trekked to Dayara Bugyal which is situated at 11,840 ft in Uttarakhand and successfully completed it . The event was a symbol of CELEBRATION for those who have survived , an INSPIRATION for those recently diagnosed , a gathering of SUPPORT for families , and an OUTREACH to the community , ” said Dr. Bhat . Dr. Jayanti Thumsi , Lead Surgeon – Breast Oncology , Apollo Cancer Centres , who treated Archana , pointed out that there has been an immense advancement in the treatment of Breast Cancer . She said , ” Not only is the treatment planning important but also the quality of life after cancer treatment . She ( Archana ) had a disease that was restricted only to her breast and , considering various other factors , we planned a Breast Conservation Surgery with Sentinel Node Biopsy and Local Oncoplastic Surgery . She recovered well from the surgery and her final Histopathology report suggested it to be a Stage 2 , Triple Negative Breast Cancer ( TNBC ) . ” TNBC tends to be an aggressive type , hence , the medical team planned to give her eight cycles of chemotherapy at three weekly intervals . This was followed by 25 sittings of radiation therapy . Commenting on the initiative , Dr Manish Mattoo , Chief Executive Officer , Karnataka Region , said , ” In this age of technical advancement , cancer can be treated with the right knowledge of experts if the condition is diagnosed at the right time .

It is imperative that we educate our patients and their families to help them understand the issue and solution better . ” Sharing her journey , Archana Hosangadi , said , ” I was diagnosed with Triple – negative breast cancer , 2nd stage in May 2019. Thereafter , I went through surgery , very intense chemotherapy of eight

Ovet cycles and 25 radiations , which although helped me to heal from illness , left me weak and drained all my confidence . I did get back to the gym shortly after my treatment but always felt the confidence lacking . According to her , it was fulfilling to see and experience that all the eight survivors could make it to the top . ” The initiative was aptly called ” Peak to peak ” , considering the conquest of our illness to the conquest of the mountain . I was overwhelmed when I reached the summit and felt triumphant that I had conquered my fear , my confidence is now back and I plan to continue trekking on a regular basis , ” she added . In line with the motto – Winning over Cancer ‘ , ACC aims to bust the myth around cancer and spread positivity by sharing the story of cancer survivors . The core thought is in the belief of winning is not only conquering cancer physically but also mentally .
