The 3rd edition of the G C Surana Conclave: “Officials should mingle with people to solve problems”- Kiran Bedi

Bengaluru, May 1, 2022: Not only politicians, but also officials must mingle and engage themselves with people and this would solve many of the problems faced by the people, Dr Kiran Bedi, former IPS officer and former Lieutenant Governor of Pondicherry said here on Sunday.

Delivering the keynote address at the 3rd edition of the G C Surana Conclave, organized by Surana College Dr Bedi said, “It is essential that officials in key positions in government make good use of their leadership. When I started working as an IPS officer, there was no communication between the officers. The same thing prevailed in Pondicherry. In order to rectify this, programs were held to encourage people to trust our administration. In addition, the practice of mingling with the people and the heads of each department and examining the development work itself was developed. This made development work much faster. We should not do things with the impression that someone is recognizing them, we should recognize our own work.”
Dr Bedi wanted students to achieve prosperity by having purpose and perseverance while putting people in the front. She commended the work of Dr. Archana Surana, Managing Trustee of Surana College for achieving the 25 year milestone.

Earlier inaugurating the conclave Minister for Higher Education Dr. C N Ashwathnarayana said, “Today’s academic scores are not the criteria for getting a job. It is important to embrace sports, personality development and leadership qualities. Our educational standards have been changed by the new nation’s education policy.”
The Minister said Bengaluru, the Silicon Valley of India is a land of opportunities and the reason for India’s brain gain. He highlighted the state’s role in implementing the National Education Policy, the minister also mentioned that Karnataka is a model state when it comes to introducing transformational projects in the IT, BT & education sector.

The minister said all co-operation would be provided to Surana educational institutions which have contributed immensely to the education sector of the city and has gained autonomous status and will start university soon.

On this occasion Dr. Kiran Bedi, Dr. Ramana Rao, renowned cardiologist from the city, Dr. H R Appannaiah, scholar and writer and Dr. Mahantesh, Founder of Samarthanam Trust were felicitated with the GC Surana Leadership Awards. The conclave which marks the silver jubilee celebrations of Surana Educational Institutions

The alumni who have made the college proud in various fields including celebrities like Pannaga Bharana, Film Director, Karunya Ram, Actress, Manjunath NS, International Percussionist and Sujay Shaunbag, Classical Dancer participated in the event. Over 40 alumni of the college were felicitated with the GC Surana achievement awards. The day concluded with an alumni cultural extravaganza where Vasuki Vaibhav, Music Composer and Apoorva Sagar, Film Actress enthralled the crowd with a cultural performance.

Respected minister B C Nagesh sir, We expect you to maintain unity in diversity.Your statement saying Quran and Bible are religious and Gita as moral, is baseless. Just as how every religion teaches good moral values, so does their holy books too.

Do you know that in the court hall, before examining the evidences, the judge would ask the witness to give word that he would speak only the truth by placing his hand on the holy book of his religion. If the witness were to be Muslim the religious book will be the Quran, if he were to be a Christian, the holy book would be Holy Bible, similarly the religious book for a Hindu is Gita.

Let our children learn beautiful morals coming from all the sides. Don’t ever sow the seeds of hatred in the tender hearts….

ಇಂದು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸುರಾನಾ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ವತಿಯಿಂದ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದ 3ನೇ ಆವೃತ್ತಿಯ ಸಿಜಿಎಸ್‌ ಕಾನ್‌ ಕ್ಲೇವ್‌ ನಲ್ಲಿ ದೇಶ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮುದಾಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಉತ್ತಮ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ಗಣ್ಯರಿಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾದ, ಜಿಸಿ ಸುರಾನಾ ಲೀಡರ್‌ಶಿಪ್‌ ಅವಾರ್ಡ್‌ 2022 ನ್ನು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು. ಸರಕಾರದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಸ್ಥಾನಗಳಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ನಾಯಕತ್ವದ ಸರಿಯಾದ ಉಪಯೋಗ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಬಹಳ ಅಗತ್ಯ. ನಾನು ಐಪಿಎಸ್‌ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದ ಸಂಧರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ಸಂವಹನವೇ ಇರುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಇದು ಪಾಂಡಿಚೆರಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಕಂಡುಬಂದಿತು. ಇದನ್ನು ಸರಿಪಡಿಸುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನ ಆಡಳಿತದಲ್ಲಿ ೬ “ಪಿ” ಗಳನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡೆ. ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಆಡಳಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಬೆಳೆಸುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಹಮ್ಮಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಯಿತು. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ, ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರತಿ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಪ್ರಮುಖರು ಜನರ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ಬೆರೆಯುವ ಹಾಗೂ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ದಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ವತಃ ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸುವ ಪರಿಪಾಠವನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಇದರಿಂದ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ದಿ ಕೆಲಸಗಳು ಬಹಳ ವೇಗ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡವು. ಯಾರೋ ಗುರುತಿಸಲಿ ಎನ್ನುವ ಮನೋಭಾವನೆಯಿಂದ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಬಾರದು, ನಮ್ಮ ಕೆಲಸಗಳೇ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸುವಂತಾಗಬೇಕು. ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ನೀಡಿರುವ ಅವಕಾಶಗಳನ್ನು ಸಮರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಉತ್ತಮ ಸಾಧನೆ ಮಾಡುವಂತೆ ಕರೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.

ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಚಿವ ಡಾ. ಸಿ ಎನ್ ಅಶ್ವಥ್‌ ನಾರಾಯಣ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ, ಇಂದು ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಅಂಕಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರಾ ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಪಡೆಯುವ ಮಾನದಂಡ ಅಲ್ಲ. ಕ್ರೀಡೆ, ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಾಯಕತ್ವ ಗುಣವನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಬಹಳ ಮುಖ್ಯ. ನೂತನ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಿಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ನೀತಿಯಿಂದ ನಮ್ಮ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಪರಿಕ್ಷಾ ಪದ್ದತಿಯ ಮಾನದಂಡಗಳೇ ಬದಲಾಗಿವೆ. ಮೊದಲೆಲ್ಲಾ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಬಾಯಿಪಾಠ ಮಾಡಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಅಂಕಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ, ಈಗ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ಸಮರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತಮ ಸಾಧನೆ ಮಾಡವುದು ಸಾಧ್ಯ. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಬಹಳ ಕ್ಷಿಪ್ರವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಎಲ್ಲಾ ರಂಗಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಕೂಡಾ ವಿಫುಲ ಅವಕಾಶಗಳು ಇವೆ. ಸುರಾನಾ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ನಗರದ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ನೀಡಿರುವ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ಅಪಾರ. ಸುರಾನಾ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಸ್ವಾಯತ್ತ ಸ್ಥಾನಮಾನ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದು ಮುಂದಿನ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲವನ್ನೂ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಲಿ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇಕಾದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸಹಕಾರ ನೀಡಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
