This series has been organised by SPIC MACAY, IIM-B chapter on 25 January every year for the last 17 years. The programmes are open to all, have no tickets. This year, though the pandemic disallows, our spirit doesn’t. We are premiering Yamini ONLINE on SPIC MACAY’s YouTube channel.

  1. VIDUSHI VISHAKHA HARI (Harikatha)

Born in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, she received her training in music from LalgudiJayaraman;. was initiated into the art of Harikatha by her Guru and father-in-law, Shri KrishnapremiSwamigal and husband Shri R. Hari. A top graded artist of the All India Radio; A recipient of Ustad Bismillah Khan YuvaPuraskar of Sangeet NatakAkademi, Harikatha Choodamani from Krishna Gana Sabha, and Dr. M.S. Subbulakshmi Centenary Award from Sri Shamukhananda Sangeetha Sabha among other awards; She performs Harikatha on various topics based on SrimadRamayanam, SrimadBhaagavatham, Puranams and Keerthanas, etc.

She will be accompanied by Shri B. Ananthakrishnan on the Violin, Shri S.J Arjun Ganesh on the Mridangam, Shri S Ganapathi on the Tabla, and Srinidhi Sathyanarayanan on the Tamburi.

  1. SHRI PURBAYAN CHATTERJEE (Sitar)

Learnt Sitar from his father Shri Parthapratim Chatterjee; A ‘Top’ grade artist of the All India Radio, he belongs to the Senia-Maihar Gharana; Has designed the ‘Dwo’ which is a Doppelganger of the Indian Sitar. His super-hit fusion album, Stringstruck released by Times Music has received the Palm IRAA Award for the Best World Music Album of the Year. At 15, he received the President of India Award, has also received the Aditya Vikram Birla Award for excellence. Has performed all over the world including Queen Elizabeth Hall, London and the Sydney Opera House,

He will be accompanied on the tabla by Shri OjasAdhiya.

  1. VIDUSHIS SOWMYA (Carnatic Vocal Music)

Learnt music initially from her father Dr. Srinivasan, and later from Dr. S. Ramanathan and Smt.T. Muktha. Making her concert debut at the age of 11, she gave her first performance at the Madras Music Academy aged 17. Has co-founded Carnatica – an institution dedicated to classical music & dance instruction, archival and talent search; Serves as a Visiting Professor at the Advanced School of Carnatic Music of the Madras Music Academy and a member of the Academic Council of the Tamil Nadu Music & Fine Arts University. Was awarded a Ph. D degree from the University of Madras for her path-breaking research work in enhancing the tonal stability of the mridangam. She is the recipient of several prestigious awards & titles, including the Madras Music Academy’s Sangita Kalanidhi.

She will be accompanied by Shri Embar Kannan on the violin, Shri Neyveli Narayanan on the Mridangam, Shri Chandrasekara Sharma on the Ghatam and Kum V Subashri on the Tamburi.

  1. VIDWAN MYSORE A. CHANDAN KUMAR (Carnatic Flute)

A child prodigy, he learnt from Vidwan Sri M.Gopalakrishna and Padma Bhushan Sri. P. S. Narayanaswamy. His grandfather is the famous violinist Sangita Kalanidhi Mysore T. Chowdaiah. ‘A-Top’ grade artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan, has received the Title “VenuGanaRatna” by BharathaKamalalaya,  the ‘Best Concert Prize’ by the Madras Music Academy and Ustad Bismillah Khan YuvaPuraskar Award from Sangeet NatakAkademi among others. Has performed with Sangita KalanidhiUmayalpuramK.Sivaraman, Guru Sri Karaikudi Mani and several others. He has performed at several prestigious concerts including the “Darbar South Asian Music Festival”, London, a special concert for meditation and healing through music in Malaysia and in a thematic concert “The Sounds of India” directed by Padma Bhushan Dr. L. Subramanium.

H will be accompanied by Smt H.M. Smitha on the violin, Vidwan Arjun Kumar on the mridangam and VidwanGiridhar Udupa on the ghatam.

  1. PANDIT VENKATESH KUMAR (Hindustani vocal music)

Hailing from Dharwad, Karnataka, he was trained in the Gwalior and Kirana gharana under the tutelage of the musician-saint PuttarajGawai in Gadag. Debuted at the Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Mahotsav in Pune upon an invitation from the legendary Pt. Bhimsen Joshi; an “A” grade artist of All India Radio since 1988. Received a postgraduate degree in music from GandharvaMahavidyalaya, has served as a faculty at the University College of Music, Dharwad and has authored the textbook of music prescribed for the examination conducted by the Government of Karnataka. Recipient of the ‘Padma Shri’ from the Government of India, Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, Sangeet Natak Academy Award, VatsalaBhimsen Joshi Award, Krishna Hangal Award among others.He will be accompanied by Shri Keshav Joshi on the tabla, Shri Narendra Nayak on the harmonium, Sri Basavaraj Hiremath and Sri Jason Lobo on the tanpura.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು , ಜನವರಿ 23 , 2021 : ಇತರೆ ದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿದರೆ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್‌ಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು ಬಲಿಯಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ . ಪ್ರತಿ ವರ್ಷ ವಿಶ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠದ 6 ಲಕ್ಷಕ್ಕೂ ಅಧಿಕ ಹೊಸ ಪ್ರಕರಣಗಳು ದಾಖಲಾಗುತ್ತಿವೆ . ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ 96,900 ಪ್ರಕರಣಗಳು ದಾಖಲಾಗುತ್ತಿವೆ . ಪ್ರತಿವರ್ಷ ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠದಿಂದ ವಿಶ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ 3,41,೦೦೦ ಸಾವುಗಳು ಸಂಭವಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದು , ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವುಗಳ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ 60,೦೦೦ ದಷ್ಟಿದೆ ಎಂದು ರಾಧಕೃಷ್ಣ ಮಲ್ಟಿಸ್ಪೆಷಾಲಿಟಿ ಹಾಸ್ಪಿಟಲ್‌ನ ಫರ್ಟಿಲಿಟಿ ಸ್ಪೆಷಲಿಸ್ಟ್ & ಮೆಡಿಕಲ್ ಡೈರೆಕ್ಟರ್ ಡಾ.ವಿದ್ಯಾ ವಿ.ಭಟ್ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ .

ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ತಡೆ ಸಪ್ತಾಹದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಅವರು , ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್‌ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಶೇ.90 ರಷ್ಟು ಕಾಮನ್ ಮ್ಯೂಮನ್ ಪೆಪಿಲೋಮಾವೈರಸ್ ( ಎಚ್ ಪಿವಿ ) ಯ ಸೋಂಕಿನಿಂದ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು . “ ಸ್ತನ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ನಂತರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡುಬರುವ ಎರಡನೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಎಂದರೆ ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠದ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ , ಇದು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಆರಂಭವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಡೈಾಸಿಯಾ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುವ ಪ್ರೀಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರಿಯಸ್ ಆಗಿ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ . ಇದನ್ನು ರೊಟೀನ್ ಪ್ಯಾಪ್ ಸ್ಮಿಯರ್‌ನಿಂದ ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ ಪತ್ತೆ ಮಾಡಬಹುದಾಗಿದೆ . ಈ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಶೇ.100 ರಷ್ಟು ವಾಸಿ ಮಾಡಬಹುದಾಗಿದೆ . ಆದರೆ , ನಾಲ್ಕನೇ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಜೀವಂತವಾಗಿ ಉಳಿಯುವ ಪ್ರಮಾಣವನ್ನು ಶೇ.20 ಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಕಡಿಮೆಗೆ ಇಳಿಯುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ . ಈ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇಗನೇ ಪತ್ತೆ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಅಗತ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ ‘ ‘ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಸಲಹೆ ನೀಡಿದರು . “ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ದಶಕದಿಂದ ಸ್ತನ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಳ ಕಂಡುಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ , ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳಿಮುಖವಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ . ಈ ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಪ್ರಕರಣಗಳು ಕಳೆದ 10 ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಶೇ .28 ರಿಂದ ಶೇ.14 ಕ್ಕೆ ಇಳಿದಿವೆ . ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಕಾರಣಗಳೆಂದರೆ , 2008 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಲಸಿಕೆ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿರುವುದಾಗಿದೆ . ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್‌ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ಪ್ರತಿವರ್ಷ ಶೇ.1.9 ರಷ್ಟು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಆಗುತ್ತಿದೆ . ಆದಾಗ್ಯೂ , ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು ಇದನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷ್ಯ ಮಾಡುವಂತಿಲ್ಲ . ಏಕೆಂದರೆ 30 ವರ್ಷದ ನಂತರ ಈ ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಬರುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ . ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ನೈರ್ಮಲ್ಯದ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದಾಗಿ ಅಪಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಗಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ . ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠದ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಇರುವ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಇತಿಹಾಸ , ಮೂರು ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು , ಜನನ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣ ಮಾತ್ರೆಗಳ ದೀರ್ಘಕಾಲೀನ ಬಳಕೆ , ಬಹು ಲೈಂಗಿಕ ಪಾಲುದಾರರನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವುದು , ಚಿಕ್ಕ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಲೈಂಗಿಕವಾಗಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿರುವವರು ಮತ್ತು ಧೂಮಪಾನ ಹಾಗೂ ಬೊಜ್ಜು ಇರುವುದು ಇತರೆ ಅಪಾಯಕಾರಿ ಅಂಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರಿವೆ ‘ ‘ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆ ನೀಡಿದರು . “ ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠದ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್‌ನ ರೋಗಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳಾದ ನಿಯಮಿತ ಮುಟ್ಟಿನ ನಡುವೆ ಸಂಭವಿಸುವಂತಹ ರಕ್ತಸ್ರಾವ , ಅಸಹಜ ಯೋನಿ ರಕ್ತಸ್ರಾವ ಅಥವಾ ವಿಸರ್ಜನೆ , ಲೈಂಗಿಕ ಸಂಭೋಗದ ನಂತರ ರಕ್ತಸ್ರಾವ , ಋತುಬಂಧದ ನಂತರ ರಕ್ತಸ್ರಾವ ಮತ್ತು ಮುಟ್ಟಿನ ಅವಧಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕಾಲ ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಮೊದಲಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ‘ ಭಾರವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ . ಮೂತ್ರ ವಿಸರ್ಜನೆ ವೇಳೆ ಉಂಟಾಗುವ ಅಸ್ವಸ್ಥತೆ , ಪ್ರೋಣಿಯ ನೋವು , ಕಾಲು ನೋವು , ತೂಕ ನಷ್ಟ , ನಿರಂತರ ಆಯಾಸ ಹಾಗೂ ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠವನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಿರಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಅದರ ಚಲನಶೀಲತೆಯನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡಿರುವುದು ಅಥವಾ ಸ್ಪರ್ಶದಲ್ಲಿ ರಕ್ತಸ್ರಾವವಾಗುವುದು ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠದ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್‌ನ ಇತರೆ ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳಾಗಿವೆ ” ಎಂದು ವಿದ್ಯಾ ವಿ.ಭಟ್ ಹೇಳಿದರು . ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠದ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಅಪಾಯವನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡಲು ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು ಅನೇಕ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಅವರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು . ವಯಸ್ಸಿಗಿಂತ ಮುಂಚೆ ವಿವಾಹಗಳು , ಚಿಕ್ಕ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಲೈಂಗಿಕತೆ , ಬಹುಪತ್ನಿ ಸಂಬಂಧಗಳು , ಧೂಮಪಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಮೂರಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಜನ್ಮ ನೀಡುವಂತಹ ಅಂಶಗಳನ್ನು ತಪ್ಪಿಸುವುದು ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರಿದೆ . ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ಬಂಧ ಮತ್ತು ಜನನಾಂಗದ ನೈರ್ಮಲ್ಯದ ಸುಧಾರಣೆಯೂ ಅಗತ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ . ನಿಯಮಿತವಾಗಿ ಪ್ಯಾಪ್ ಸ್ಮಿಯರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಎಚ್ ಪಿವಿ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಒಳಗಾಗುವುದು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಿಗೆ ( ಆರು ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರು ) ತಮ್ಮ ಹದಿಹರೆಯದ ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಥವಾ 20 ರ ವಯೋಮಾನದ ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಲಸಿಕೆ ಹಾಕಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ . ಮೊದಲ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್‌ ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠಕ್ಕೆ ಸೀಮಿತವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ . ಎರಡನೇ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠ ಮತ್ತು ಗರ್ಭಾಶಯವನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತದೆ . ಮೂರನೇ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್‌ ಗರ್ಭಕಂಠ ಮತ್ತು ಗರ್ಭಾಶಯವನ್ನು ಮೀರಿ ಶ್ರೇಣಿಯ ಗೋಡೆ ಅಥವಾ ಯೋನಿಯ ಕೆಳ ಭಾಗಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಗುತ್ತದೆ . ನಾಲ್ಕನೇ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ಹತ್ತಿರದ ಅಂಗಗಳಾದ ಒರೆಕ್ಟಮ್ ಅಥವಾ ಶ್ವಾಸಕೋಶ , ಯಕೃತ್ತು ಅಥವಾ ಮೂಳೆಗಳಂತಹ ದೇಹದ ಇತರೆ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ವ್ಯಾಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ . ಇದರ ಗುಣಪಡಿಸುವಿಕೆಯ ಪ್ರಮಾಣವು ಒಂದನೇ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು ಶೇ.100 ರಷ್ಟಿದ್ದರೆ , ಮೂರನೇ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಶೇ.40 ಹಾಗೂ ನಾಲ್ಕನೇ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಶೇ.20 ಕ್ಕೆ ಇಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ .

More women in India dying from cervical cancer than in any other country

Yet, Bangalore is witnessing a decrease of 1.9 percent in incidence of cervical cancer every year, in contrast to breast cancer whose cases are rising rapidly among women, says Dr Vidya V Bhat, Fertility Specialist & Medical Director, RadhaKrishna Multispecialty Hospital

BENGALURU / January 22, 2021– More women in India die from cervical cancer than in any other country. The world sees just over 6 lakhs new cases of cervical cancer every year, out of which 96,900 are from India. Out of the 341,000 deaths occurring in the world every year due to cervical cancer, 60,000 are from India, said Dr. Vidya V Bhat, Fertility Specialist & Medical Director, RadhaKrishna Multispecialty Hospital, in a talk during the ongoing Cervical Cancer Prevention Week. About 90% of all cervical cancers are caused due to infection with the common human papillomavirus (HPV), she said.

Added Dr. Vidya V Bhat: “Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer of women in India after breast cancer. It is a disease that develops quite slowly and begins with a pre-cancerous condition known as dysplasia which is easily detected in a routine Pap smear and is 100% curable at this stage. However, by stage IV of the cancer, the chances of survival drop to below 20%. Hence early detection is essential.”

She said: “While the number of breast cancer cases has increased over the decade, the number of cervical cancer cases has reduced in India. In fact, cervical cancer cases fell from 28% to 14% in the last ten years due to several factors, including the introduction of a vaccine in India in 2008. In Bangalore, the incidence of cervical cancer is coming down by 1.9% every year. Yet, women should not lower their guard as any one of them above the age of 30 years can get cervical cancer. Those from lower socioeconomic status are especially at risk due to poor hygiene. Other risk factors include a family history of cervical cancer, women having more than three children, long-term use of birth control pills, having multiple sex partners, being sexually active at a young age, and smoking and obesity.”

Women should be alert to symptoms of cervical cancer such as bleeding that occurs between regular menstrual periods, abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge, bleeding after sexual intercourse, bleeding after going through menopause, and menstrual periods that last longer and are heavier than before. Discomfort while urinating, pelvic pain, leg pain, weight loss, constant fatigue and a cervix that is fixed and lost its mobility or one that bleeds on touch, are other symptoms of cervical cancer, according to Dr. Vidya V Bhat.

Women can do many things to reduce the risk of cervical cancer, said Dr. Vidya V Bhat. This includes avoidance of factors such as early marriages, sex at a young age, polygamous relationships, smoking and giving birth to more than three children. Restriction in number of children and improvement of genital hygiene is also essential. It is important to undergo regular pap smear and HPV tests, and vaccinate women (three shots over six months) in their teen years or early twenties.

In Stage I, the cancer is confined to the cervix. In Stage II, it includes the cervix as well as the uterus.
