ITC WOW Recognizes Champions of Sustainability at Samaagam Green Awards Event

Bengaluru, 11 February 2025: ITC Limited reinforced its commitment to environmental stewardship by hosting Samaagam: ITC WOW Green Awards Event at BR Ambedkar Auditorium, Bengaluru. The event recognized the exceptional contributions of students, educational institutions, dry waste collectors, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), and corporates in advancing the Clean India Mission through sustainable waste management and recycling.

The event was graced by Chief Guest Shri PJ Anand, Executive Vice President, Human Resources, ITC Limited, along with Guests of Honour Smt Aanchal Chomal, Associate Director, School of Continuing Education, Azim Premji University, and Sri Basavaraj R Kabade, Chief General Manager & Chief Engineer, Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited, Government of Karnataka.

Interschool Recycling Championship 2024-25: A Grand Success

The highlight of the event was the Interschool Recycling Championship (ISRC), ITC WOW’s flagship program designed to instill responsible waste management habits among students. The 2024-25 edition witnessed overwhelming participation:

75,000 students actively took part, contributing 500 metric tons of dry waste for recycling.

2,482 schools from across southern India participated, engaging 9.31 lakh students in waste segregation awareness.


Speaking at the event, Mr. PJ Anand lauded the efforts of the young participants, stating, “I extend my heartfelt compliments to the winners of the ITC WOW Interschool Recycling Championship. It is heartening to see the younger generation actively participating in waste management and spreading awareness on sustainability.”

ITC WOW’s Impact on Waste Management

Since its inception in 2007, ITC’s Wellbeing Out of Waste (WOW) initiative has emerged as one of India’s largest awareness programs on solid waste management. The program actively promotes source segregation, maximizes resource recovery, and supports sustainable livelihoods for waste handlers. Key achievements include:

69 lakh households and 67 lakh students engaged across six states.

17,844 waste collectors and ragpickers benefited.

65,000 metric tons of dry recyclable waste recovered annually.

21 lakh households covered across 180 wards in Karnataka alone.


The awards ceremony also served as a platform to strengthen collaboration among government agencies, schools, waste collectors, and corporates in promoting responsible waste management.

ITC, recognized globally for its sustainability leadership, has been solid waste recycling positive for 17 consecutive years and plastic neutral since FY2022. With a vision for a 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable packaging goal by 2028, the company continues to champion a circular economy.

A Step Towards a Cleaner, Greener India

With around 1,500 attendees, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation and cultural performances by students, further emphasizing their commitment to environmental responsibility.

ಯೂರೋ ಸ್ಕೂಲ್ ಪ್ರಕರಣ: ಅಪೂರ್ಣ ಕಟ್ಟಡಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುಮತಿ?

2022-23ನೇ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಅರ್ಜಿಗಳನ್ನು ಆಹ್ವಾನಿಸಿದಾಗ, ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಇಲಾಖೆ ಕಡ್ಡಾಯ ದಾಖಲೆಗಳ ಅಗತ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟಪಡಿಸಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ, ಯೂರೋಸ್ಕೂಲ್ ಫೌಂಡೇಶನ್, ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿಪುರ ಗ್ರಾಮ, ಆನೇಕಲ್ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕು, ಬನ್ನೇರುಘಟ್ಟ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸ ಶಾಲೆ ತೆರೆಯಲು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ಅರ್ಜಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ದೋಷಗಳು ಕಂಡುಬಂದಿವೆ.

ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾದ ಕಟ್ಟಡ ಸುರಕ್ಷತಾ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ಪತ್ರವು ಕೇವಲ ‘A Block’ ನ ನೆಲಮಹಡಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಲಭ್ಯವಿತ್ತು, ಆದರೆ ಪೂರ್ಣ ಕಟ್ಟಡಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ಪತ್ರ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಅದ باوجود, ದಿನಾಂಕ 25-04-2022 ರಂದು, ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಇಲಾಖೆ ಈ ಅಪೂರ್ಣ ಕಟ್ಟಡಕ್ಕೆ 1 ರಿಂದ 8 ನೇ ತರಗತಿವರೆಗೆ ಶಾಲೆ ನಡೆಸಲು ಅನುಮತಿ ನೀಡಿದೆ. ಇದು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಭದ್ರತೆಗಾಗಿ ಕಟ್ಟುನಿಟ್ಟಾದ ನಿಯಮಗಳನ್ನು ಮೀರಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾದ ನಿರ್ಧಾರ ಎಂದು ಆರೋಪಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಮಾಗಡಿ ರಸ್ತೆಯ ರಾಯನ್ ಶಾಲೆ: ಅನುಮತಿ ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೂ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ?

ಬ್ಯಾಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಮಾಗಡಿ ಮುಖ್ಯ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ರಾಯನ್ ಇಂಟರ್ ನ್ಯಾಶನಲ್ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಎಂಬ ಹೊಸ ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ಈ ದಿನಾಂಕದವರೆಗೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಅಧಿಕೃತ ಅನುಮತಿ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ, ಈ ಶಾಲೆಯವರು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ಅರ್ಜಿಗಳನ್ನು ಆಹ್ವಾನಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಪೋಷಕರಿಂದ ಶುಲ್ಕ ವಸೂಲಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಕಾನೂನು ಬಾಹಿರವಾದ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಇಲಾಖೆಯು ಕೂಡಾ ಯಾವುದೇ ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ವಕೀಲರು ತಮ್ಮ ಆಕ್ರೋಶ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು.

ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಮೌನ ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣವೇ?

ಈ ಗಂಭೀರ ಅಕ್ರಮಗಳ ಕುರಿತು ವಕೀಲ ಶಿವಕುಮಾರ್ ಎಂ.ವಿ. ಅವರು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಇಲಾಖೆಗೆ ದೂರು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರೂ, ಯಾವುದೇ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಲಭಿಸಿಲ್ಲ. “ನಾನು ವಕೀಲನಾಗಿ ದೂರು ನೀಡಿದರೂ ಉತ್ತರ ಇಲ್ಲ, ಹಾಗಾದರೆ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ನಾಗರಿಕರ ದೂರುಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೇಗೆ ನ್ಯಾಯ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ?” ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಿದರು.

ಈ ಎಲ್ಲ ಪ್ರಕರಣಗಳನ್ನು ಹಿತದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಬೇಕಾಗಿರುವ ಸರ್ಕಾರ, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಸುರಕ್ಷತೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ. ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷ್ಯದಿಂದಾಗಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಭವಿಷ್ಯ ಅಪಾಯಕ್ಕೀಡಾಗುವಂತಿದೆಯೇ? ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟ ಉತ್ತರ ನೀಡಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ನ್ಯಾಯಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಆರೋಪಿಯ ಜಾಮೀನು ಅರ್ಜಿ ವಜಾಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದರೂ, ಪೊಲೀಸರು ಇನ್ನೂ ಅವನನ್ನು ಬಂಧಿಸಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಆರೋಪಿಸಿ, ಮಹಿಳೆ ಪ್ರೆಸ್ ಕ್ಲಬ್ ಆಫ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರುನಲ್ಲಿ ಪತ್ರಿಕಾಗೋಷ್ಠಿ ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಪೀಡಿತೆ ವೆಂಕಟರತ್ನ (ಹೆಸರಿನ ಬದಲಾವಣೆ) ತಮ್ಮ ಅನುಭವ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದು, ದೇವನಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ವಕೀಲ ಸತೀಶ್ ಟಿ.ಆರ್ ಅವರ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಅತ್ಯಾಚಾರ, ಮೋಸ ಮತ್ತು ವಂಚನೆಯ ಆರೋಪದ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ಪ್ರಕರಣ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ, ಪೊಲೀಸರು ಅವನನ್ನು ಬಂಧಿಸಲು ವಿಫಲರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಆಕ್ರೋಶ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು.

ಘಟನೆ ವಿವರ:
 ವೆಂಕಟರತ್ನ  2022ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸತೀಶ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದು, ನಂತರ ಅವರ ಮಾತುಗಳ ನಂಬಿ ತನ್ನ ಆಸ್ತಿಯ ದಾಖಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹಸ್ತಾಂತರಿಸಿದ್ದಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ವೇಳೆ, ಸತೀಶ್ ಅವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಿಕಟ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಬೆಳೆದು, ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಮದುವೆಯಾಗುವುದಾಗಿ ಭರವಸೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ, ಮುಂದಾಗಿ ಅವರು ವಂಚನೆ ನಡೆಸಿ, ಹಣ ಮತ್ತು ಆಭರಣ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡು ದೂರ ಸರಿದಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ದೂರಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಕಾನೂನು ಹೋರಾಟ:
ಈ ಸಂಬಂಧ 09-12-2024ರಂದು ಬ್ಯಾಡರಹಳ್ಳಿ ಪೊಲೀಸ್ ಠಾಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇಸ್ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಪ್ರಕರಣ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ 789 ಆಗಿದೆ. ಜಾಮೀನು ಅರ್ಜಿ 20-01-2025ರಂದು ವಜಾ ಆದರೂ, ಪೊಲೀಸರು ಬಂಧಿಸಲು ಹಿಂಜರಿದಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಆರೋಪಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಪೊಲೀಸ್ ಠಾಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಹಾಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸಿದಾಗ, ಠಾಣಾಧಿಕಾರಿ ವೀರಣ್ಣ ಮಗ್ಗಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಅವಮಾನಿಸಿ, ದೂರು ನಿರಾಕರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ನ್ಯಾಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಹೋರಾಟ:
