Intl seminar on role of biomechanics in diabetic foot treatment

BENGALURU: FootSecure, a phygital podiatry platform, conducted a 3K diabetic foot awareness walkathon on May 26 in Bengaluru.

Foot Secure, along with the Indian Institute of Science, had organized a walkathon from Foot Secure Malleswaram to JN Tata Auditorium, IISc, to raise awareness about the significance of timely podiatric intervention in diabetic foot management.

The organizing committee also held a two day Podocon—Biomechanics of Diabetic Foot Conference at JN Tata Auditorium. Dr Shalini Rajneesh, Addnl. Chief Secretary, was the chief guest during the inaugural session. Capt. Naveen Nagappa, an ex-serviceman of the Indian Army and a Kargil war hero, was the guest of honurour on 25th . Capt. Naveen Nagappa shared his experiences of the war, and how he sustained multiple surgeries on his legs, and his resilience.

This is the 6th edition of PODOCON. About 300 delegates from India and neighbouring countries, encompassing a diverse group of professionals such as diabetic foot surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, plastic surgeons, diabetologists, endocrinologists, podiatrists, physicians, entrepreneurs, key opinion leaders, researchers, innovators, and decision-makers, are attended the conference.

The conference also highlighted significant advancements in wound care dressings and regenerative medicine and discussed the management of Charcot Foot. A scientific assembly featuring the panels and symposia were showcased pioneering research from around the world.

“We can prevent 80 per cent of these amputations if we intervene at the right time, and biomechanics play an important role in it,” pointed out Dr Sanjay Sharma, a renowned podiatric surgeon and founder of Foot Secure, which is working towards applying biomechanics principles in diabetic foot management. “There is a strong need to provide clinicians with the required knowledge and insights so that diabetic patients receive the right intervention and amputations are prevented,” he added

“The Sanskrit word for footwear is paadaraksha—those that protect our feet. We need that more than ever now, with the impending threat of diabetic foot ulcers. We have undertaken three efforts, one to provide all-mechanical dynamic self-offloading footwear that can be customized with precision for an individual; a digital podiatry clinic to monitor the feet of people at scale; and to develop a foot digital twin with minimally invasive data acquisition. We are hoping that these efforts will protect the feet that help us stand and walk,” said Dr. Anant Suresh, Dean, IISc.

Podiatry is a branch of medicine that exclusively studies, diagnoses, and provides medical and surgical treatment for disorders of the foot and ankle. Unfortunately, biomechanics and podiatry have not received due attention in India, in the treatment of Diabetic Foot Conditions. According to estimates, 140,000 major lower limb amputations are being carried out among diabetic patients in India annually. If minor amputations, such as toes and other parts of the limb, are taken into consideration, then the number of cases crosses 1.4 million per year.

H.V. Mohan Lal Unveils “The Real Theory of Everything” with Live Demonstration in Bangalore

Mohan Lal, a self-taught researcher driven by a passion for uncovering the mysteries of the universe, unveiled his groundbreaking book, “The Real Theory of Everything,” at a well-attended press conference on Friday, May 24th, 2024. The event, held in Medahalli, Bangalore, attracted a substantial audience of media representatives and science enthusiasts, all eager to explore Lal’s revolutionary ideas.

Beyond theoretical contributions, Lal built a 40-foot Microgravity Drop Tower (ARYABHATTA MICROGRAVITY DROP TOWER or AMDT) to facilitate practical experimentation related to gravity. This tower served as a bridge between scientific discovery and the public, catering to both seasoned researchers and curious minds, fostering a space for exploration and exchange of ideas. The event featured a live demonstration showcasing the AMDT’s capabilities and Lal’s theories on the Moon’s rotation and solar system formation, captivating the audience with a glimpse into the practical applications of his work.

“My journey began with a seemingly simple yet profound question: ‘How can something like time, which appears intangible, interact with the vast emptiness of space?’ This fundamental curiosity sparked a dedicated research odyssey, leading me to immerse myself in the works of scientific giants like Einstein, Newton, and Tesla. However, my exploration went beyond mere understanding. My research ultimately led me to propose a new framework that challenges the status quo and offers alternative explanations for phenomena like curved spacetime, a cornerstone of Einstein’s theory of general relativity,” said H.V. Mohan Lal.

ICAI to hold 2nd Edition of Startup Sphere Event from June 27-29 in Bengaluru; Aims to facilitate over USD 200 mn funding to startups from Investors

Bangalore, May 23rd 2024: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) hosted a curtain-raiser press conference in Bangalore for the upcoming Startup Sphere 2024 event, scheduled from June 27th-29th, 2024, in Bengaluru, the “the tech city of India.” The event aims to bring together the dynamic startup community, including partners, unicorns, leading influencers, founders, investors, leaders, and entrepreneurs, to discuss a broad range of topics related to the startup ecosystem. The goal is to raise awareness, foster idea generation, facilitate capacity building, and offer support for the growth of India’s startup ecosystem.



Building on the resounding success of last year’s inaugural Startup Sphere event in Mumbai, which saw an estimated USD 100 million commitment of funding from 60 pitches presented to 75 investors, this year’s event is poised for even greater achievements.

Sharing insights about the Startup Sphere 2024 event, CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, President, ICAI said, “I am proud to highlight the remarkable growth of India’s startup ecosystem, now the third largest globally. After the success of the inaugural Startup Sphere event in Mumbai last year, we have decided to hold the event in the tech and startup hub of the country, Bengaluru. The Startup Sphere 2024 is scheduled from 27th to 29th June, 2024. We are expecting to arrange more than USD 200 million funding this year. More than 10,000 people are expected to participate in this three-day event that aims to connect entrepreneurs and investors, wherein startups can share their ideas and get investments. President further added, “We have over 4 lakh members of which around 1.6 lakh Chartered Accountants are in practice. Rest 2.4 lakh members are working in every facet of the financial ecosystem, be it venture capital, investment finance and private equity, their expertise extends throughout contributing significantly to India’s startup success story.”



Sharing more details on the upcoming mega event, CA. Dheeraj Kumar Khandelwal, Chairman, Committee on MSME & Startup of ICAI, said, “The Startup Sphere 2024 event is set to feature 100 exhibitors and 200 startups pitching their innovative ideas to an estimated 100 investors from Bangalore alone. Representatives from over 100 ICAI branches across India will also attend along with eminent Ministers, unicorns, entrepreneurs, government officials. Notably, more than 15 unicorns are expected to participate, adding to the event’s prestige and networking opportunities.”
