DR. AGARWALS EYE HOSPITAL ORGANISES WALKATHON ON EYE DONATION IN BENGALURU

BENGALURU / September 6, 2022: Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital organized a Walkathon in Bengaluru to raise awareness about eye donation as part of the ongoing National Eye Donation fortnight. More than 100 students from Sri Aurobindo College, doctors’ and members of the

public walked from Rajajinagar Metro Station to the college, carrying placards, encouraging

people to take pledge to donate their eyes.

The Walkathon was flagged off by Kuldeep Kumar R Jain (IPS), DCP, Traffic West Division, Bengaluru, and L. Nagesh (KSPS), ACP, Traffic North Sub-Division, Bengaluru. Forms for eye donation were handed over to them to encourage traffic police personnel to pledge to donate their eyes. Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital also organised awareness programs like cyclothon in various other parts of Bengaluru, Mysore & Hubli-Dharwad;

Said Dr. Devaraj M, Medical Director and Senior Consultant, Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital, Bengaluru: “About 9.5 lakh individuals in Karnataka suffer from blindness, and more than one lakh people are on the waiting list to receive a corneal transplant. Lack of awareness about eye donation is the main reason for low collection of donor corneas in the country. This week-long campaign by Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital is an attempt to make people understand the importance of eye donation. We are appealing to each Indian to come forward to donate their eyes so that the curse of corneal blindness can be eradicated, and many more people can get the gift of eyesight.”

Said Kuldeep Kumar R Jain (IPS): “I am delighted to be a part of this noble initiative to create

awareness about eye donation in the state. Today, also pledge to donate my eyes to give a

chance to someone visually impaired to experience the delights of our beautiful world.”

Added L. Nagesh (KSPS): “Eye donation should be made popular in every state in India, and

everybody should come forward to pledge their eyes. Renowned Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar is a good example for all of us. His corneas were transplanted in four corneal blind patients, giving them the ability to see. He followed the footsteps of his father, Dr. Rajkumar and mother Parvathamma Rajkumar, in donating their eyes after their death. Due to their impact, we saw many more people coming forward to pledge their eyes.”

Said Dr. Devaraj M: “Every citizen of India can be an eye donor, irrespective of age, caste, creed, sex, religion, or blood group. Even those suffering from refractive errors and wearing glasses or contact lenses can become eye donors. People who underwent cataract surgery and those who are suffering from systemic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart or kidney disease can also donate their eyes.”

More than 15 million blind people live in India, out of which 3.5 million suffer from corneal

blindness, with 40,000 new cases being added each year. Even though one eye donor can givesight to four corneal blind persons, there is a huge demand-supply gap. According to the National Blindness & Visual Impairment Survey 2019, corneal blindness is the major cause of blindness in patients aged less than 50 years, accounting for 37.5 % of the cases, and the second most important among those aged more than 50 years. Majority of cases of corneal blindness can be corrected through a corneal transplant.

ಅಂಗನವಾಡಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ನೀತಿ ಜಾರಿಯ ಕುರಿತು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಚರ್ಚೆಗೊಳಪಡಿಸಲು ಆಗ್ರಹ: ಅಂಗನವಾಡಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ನೀತಿ ( ಎನ್.ಇ.ಪಿ. ) ಯನ್ನು ಜಾರಿಗೊಳಿಸುವುದಾಗಿ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಘೋಷಿಸಿದೆ . ಸದರಿ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ನೀತಿಯ ಶಿಫಾರಸ್ಸುಗಳು ಹಲವಾರು ಗೊಂದಲಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ್ದು , ಅದರ ಸಾಧಕ – ಬಾದಕಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಎನ್.ಇ.ಪಿ. ಅನುಷ್ಠಾನಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡಿರುವ ಪೂರ್ವಸಿದ್ಧತಾ ಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಚರ್ಚೆಗೊಳಪಡಿಸಲು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ , ಆರೋಗ್ಯ , ಮಹಿಳಾ ಮತ್ತು ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಇಲಾಖೆಗಳು ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಅಂಗನವಾಡಿ ಸಂಘಟನೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ತಜ್ಞರನ್ನೊಳಗೊಂಡ ವಿಸ್ತ್ರತ ಸಭೆಯೊಂದನ್ನು ಕರೆದು ಪರಾಮರ್ಶೆ ನಡೆಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ಎ.ಐ.ಟಿ.ಯು.ಸಿ. ಸಂಯೋಜಿತ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಅಂಗನವಾಡಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕರ್ತೆಯರು ಮತ್ತು ಸಹಾಯಕಿಯರ ಫೆಡರೇಷನ್ ರಾಜ್ಯಸರ್ಕಾರವನ್ನು ಆಗ್ರಹಪಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ . ಬರುವ ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ – ನವೆಂಬರ್ ಮಾಹೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ 20 ಸಾವಿರ ಅಂಗನವಾಡಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ನೀತಿಯನ್ನು ಜಾರಿಗೊಳಿಸುವುದಾಗಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಚಿವ ಬಿ.ಸಿ. ನಾಗೇಶ್‌ರವರ ಘೋಷಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ . ಅದರಂತೆ 20 ಸಾವಿರ ಅಂಗನವಾಡಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕರ್ತೆಯರು ಶಾಲಾವರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕಿಯರನ್ನಾಗಿಸುವ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ನಿಲುವು ಒಂದು ಸುಧಾರಣಾ ಕ್ರಮ ಎನಿಸಿದರೂ ಸಹ ಯಾವ ಮೂಲ ಉದ್ದೇಶಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಅಂಗನವಾಡಿ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ರೂಪುಗೊಂಡಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷಿಸಿದಂತಿದೆ . 6 ವರ್ಷ ವಯೋಮಿತಿಯೊಳಗಿನ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಮತ್ತು ಗರ್ಭಿಣಿ , ಬಾಣಂತಿಯರ ಪೂರಕ ಪೌಷ್ಠಿಕಾಂಶ ಆಹಾರ , ಆರೋಗ್ಯ , ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ , ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಲಾಲನೆ – ಪಾಲನೆ , ಕಲಿಕೆಯಂತಹ ಸೇವೆಗಳ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿತವಾಗಿರುವ ಸಮಗ್ರ ಶಿಶು ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಯೋಜನೆ ( ಐ.ಸಿ.ಡಿ.ಎಸ್ . ) ಯನ್ನು ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ನೀತಿಯ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಗೆ ಒಳಪಡಿಸಿದರೆ ಇಡೀ ಅಂಗನವಾಡಿ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯೇ ದುರ್ಬಲಗೊಂಡು ಅಂಗನವಾಡಿಗಳು ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಮೂಲ ಸೇವೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಉಂಟಾಗಲಿದೆ .

Bengaluru , 2nd , September , 2022 : The biography and memoir ” The Maverick Maharaja : The Life and Times of His Highness Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wodiyar authored by Dr. Deepti Navaratna on the Late Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar was already unveiled at an gathering including friends and family of the Maharaja and the author Dr. Deepti Navaratna , at Palace Grounds , Bengaluru . The book launch was held in commemoration of the 103 birth anniversary of the Maharaja under the aegis of the Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar Foundation ( M / WF ) . The book was unveiled by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan , Former Chairman , Space Commission , Secretary Department of Space & Chairman , ISRO in the presence of Shri HN Suresh , Director , Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan , Bengaluru ( Guest of Honour ) and the daughters of the Maharaja Maharajakumari Smt . Kamakshi Devi Wadiyar , Founder Trustee , MJWF and Maharajakumari Smt . Indrakshi Devi Wadiyar , Founder Trustee , MJWF amongst other dignitaries . The book launch was followed by an exclusive concert by ” The Mysore Police Carnatic Band ” playing select Kritis of the Maharaja . The late Maharaja was a lover of Carnatic Music and had composed nearly a 100 – outstanding Carnatic kritis even before he turned 30 , The Maharaja’s personal life was nothing short of an operatic plot . Born after World War I in 1919 in Mysore , which was ravaged by multiple famines , and thrust onto the throne in 1940 , on the anvil of World War II , his tenure was indeed in very testing times . In the truest sense of the Indian concept of the Avadhuta , he navigated the many transformations of power from Monarch to Rajapramukh to Governor of Mysore with a song in his heart and the piety of a saint . The book uses his creative expressions : music , text , prose and writings to narrate in rich technicolour , the paradoxical portrait of a man who embodied the wisdom of East and sensibilities of the West with great equanimity .
