ಮುಂಬರುವ ಬಿಬಿಎಂಪಿ (ಪಾಲಿಕೆ) ಚುನಾವಣೆ ಭ್ರಷ್ಟ ಬಿಜೆಪಿ ವಿರುದ್ದ ಜನಸಾಮಾನ್ಯರು ನಡೆಸುವ ಹಣಾಹಣಿಯಾಗಲಿದೆ. ಪಕ್ಷ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಯ ಹತ್ತೇ ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ದೇಶದೆಲ್ಲೆಡೆ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಚುನಾವಣೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಜಯ ಸಾಧಿಸಿದ್ದಲ್ಲದೇ, ಎರಡು ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ರಚನೆ ಮಾಡಿರುವ ಅಮ್ ಆದಿ ಪಾರ್ಟಿಯು ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ವೇಗವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಪಕ್ಷವಾಗಿದೆ. ನಾವು ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಚುನಾವಣೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಗೆಲ್ಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ದೇಶದ ಜನರು ಅರವಿಂದ್ ಕೇಜಿವಾಲ್ ಮಾದರಿ’ ಅನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಪಾಲಿಕೆ ಚುನಾವಣೆ ಯಾವ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಾದರೂ ಘೋಷಣೆಯಾಗಬಹುದು. ಇದರ ನಿಮಿತ್ತ ಎಎಪಿ ಪ್ರಚಾರ ಸಮಿತಿಯೊಂದನ್ನು ರಚನೆ ಮಾಡಿದೆ, ಈ ಸಮಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವವರಿಗೆ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಗೊತ್ತಿದೆ, ನಗರದ ಜನರ ಕಷ್ಟಗಳ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರಿವಿದೆ. ನಗರಕ್ಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಾಡಿಗೆ ನೀಡಿರುವ ಸೇವೆಯಿಂದ ಜನರ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಗಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಭಾಸ್ಕರ್ ರಾವ್ – ಸಮಿತಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರು

“ಈ ಸಮಿತಿಯು ಪಕ್ತವನ್ನು ಗೆಲ್ಲಿಸಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಜನಪರ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕ ಪಾಲಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಪಕ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯಿದೆ.” ಎಂದು ಎಎಪಿ ರಾಜ್ಯಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಪೃಥ್ವಿ ರೆಡ್ಡಿ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು.
ಇದೇ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಎಎಪಿ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಮತ್ತು ಬಿಬಿಎಂಪಿ ಪ್ರಚಾರ ಸಮಿತಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಭಾಸ್ಕರ್ ರಾವ್ ಜನರು ಪಾವತಿಸುವ ತೆರಿಗೆ ದುಡ್ಡು ಜನರ ಉದ್ಧಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಬಳಸಬೇಕೇ ಹೊರತು ರಾಜಕಾರಣಿಗಳ ಬಟ್ಟೆಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ನಾವು ನಂಬಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಸುಸಜ್ಜಿತ ಶಾಲೆಗಳು, ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗಳು, ಉತ್ತಮ ರಸ್ತೆ, ನೀರು, ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ಮತ್ತು ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗೆ ಪೂರಕವಾದ ಅವಕಾಶಗಳು ಜನಜೀವನಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇಕಾದ್ದು ಇಷ್ಟೇ, ಇದು ಜನರ ಹಕ್ಕೂ ಕೂಡಾ ಆಪ್ ದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದು ಮಾದರಿಯನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸಿದೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಅದನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿ ತೋರಿಸಿದೆ, ಬೇರೆ ಪಕ್ಷಗಳು ಕೇವಲ ಹೇಳಿಕೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೀಮಿತವಾಗಿವೆ.” ಎಂದರು.
ಮುಂದುವರೆದು “ಕಳೆದ ವಾರವಷ್ಟೇ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿ ಶೋಧನಾ ಸಮಿತಿ ಯನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿ ಘೋಷಣೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದವು, ಮಿಸ್ ಕಾಲ್ ಮತ್ತು ಈಮೇಲ್ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ಮಾಡುವ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಿದ್ದೆವು, ಇದರ ಮೂಲಕ 600ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಜನರು ಮುಂಬರುವ ಪಾಲಿಕೆ ಚುನಾವಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಎಪಿ ಟಿಕೆಟ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಿಸುವ ಇಚ್ಛೆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿ ಅರ್ಜಿ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ವಾರ್ಡ್ ಮೀಸಲಾತಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆಗೂ ಮುನ್ನವೇ ಇಷ್ಟು ಅಸಕ್ತರು ಬಂದಿರುವುದು, ಮೀಸಲಾತಿ ಘೋಷಣೆಯ ನಂತರ ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಆಸಕ್ತರು ಬರುವುದು ಖಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಜನಸಂಪರ್ಕ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಚಾರ ಸಮಿತಿ ರಾಜ್ಯಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿ ಚಂದ್ರು ಮಾತನಾಡಿ ಜನರು ಒಂದೆಡೆ 40% ಕಮಿಷನ್ ಸರ್ಕಾರದಿಂದ ಬೇಸತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ, ಇನ್ನೊಂದೆಡೆ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹದಗೆಟ್ಟ ಕಾನೂನು ಸುವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಆಕ್ರೋಶಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಜೆಡಿಎಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಎರಡೂ ಪಕ್ಷಗಳೂ ಪರ್ಯಾಯ ರಾಜಕಾರಣ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳಿದಿಲ್ಲ. ಜನರೇ ಹೇಳುವಂತ ಈ ಭ್ರಷ್ಟ ಬಿಜೆಪಿ ಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಿ ಬಯಲಿಗೆಳೆಯುವ ನೈತಿಕ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಎಎಪಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಇದೆ” ಎಂದರು.
“ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ಸಚಿವ ಸಿ.ಎನ್.ಅಶ್ವಥನಾರಾಯಣ ರ ಟೆಂಡರ್ ಹಗರಣದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ ಸಮೇತ ಎಎಪಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ್ದು, ಆದರೂ ಯಾವುದೇ ತನಿಖೆ ಆರಂಭವಾಗದ ಕಾರಣ, ಇಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲೇ ಲೋಕಾಯುಕ್ತಕ್ಕೆ ದೂರು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು’ ಎಂದು ರಾಜ್ಯ ವಕ್ತಾರ ಕೆ.ಮಥಾಯಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಕಳೆದ 10 ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹಣಬಲವಿಲ್ಲದವರು, ಜನಬಲದ ಮೇಲೆ ಚುನಾವಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಲ್ಲುವುದು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೇ, ಗೆಲ್ಲಲೂಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಆಪ್ ತೋರಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಮನೆ ಮನೆ ಪ್ರಚಾರ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಇನ್ನು ಅನೇಕ ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ರೀತಿಯ ಪ್ರಚಾರಗಳು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯಲಿದೆ. ಬೇರೆ ಪಕ್ಷಗಳು ಮಾಡುವ ಖರ್ಚಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿದರೆ ನಮ್ಮದೂ ತೀರಾ ಕಡಿಮೆ. ಯಾಕೆಂದರೆ ನಾವು ಹಣ ಹಂಚದೇ ನಮ್ಮದೇ ಕಾರ್ಯಕರ್ತರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಚಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಇಳಿಯುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಇದೇ ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ಇಂಥದ್ದೊಂದು ಕೆಲಸ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯಲಿದೆ. ಪತ್ರಿಕಾಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಮೋಹನ್ ದಾಸರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಚಾರ ಸಮಿತಿ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾದ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿಕಾಂತ್ ರಾವ್ ಇದ್ದರು.
ಜಯನಗರದ ಸುದರ್ಶನ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾಮಂದಿರದ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ 300 ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಜನರು ಸರ್ಕೋಮಾ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯ ನಂತರದ ಜೀವನಶೈಲಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸುವ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದರು.
ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, 30 ಜುಲೈ 2022: ಈ ಸರ್ಕೋಮಾ ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ, ಭಾರತದ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗಳಾದ ಅಪೊಲೊ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳು, ಸರ್ಕೋಮಾ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸಲು ‘ವಿನ್ನರ್ಸ್ ಆನ್ ವೀಲ್ಸ್’ ಸೈಕ್ಲಾಥಾನ್ ಅನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿವೆ. ಈ ಉಪಕ್ರಮವು ಉತ್ತಮ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದ ಜೀವನಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸಲು ಮತ್ತು ಸಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕತೆಯನ್ನು ಉತ್ತೇಜಿಸುವ ಗುರಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಉತ್ತಮವಾಗಿ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಪಡೆದ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ರೋಗಿಯು ಹೇಗೆ ಯಶಸ್ವಿ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಬಹುದು ಎಂಬುದರ ಕುರಿತು ಬೆಳಕು ಚೆಲ್ಲಲು, ಜನರು ಅಪೊಲೊದ ಬ್ರಾಂಡ್ ಅಂಬಾಸಿಡರ್ ಆಗಿ ಸೈಕ್ಲಾಥಾನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಲು ಸ್ವಯಂಪ್ರೇರಿತರಾದರು. ಸಾರ್ಕೋಮಾ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ರೋಗಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸಲು, ನವದೆಹಲಿ, ಹೈದರಾಬಾದ್, ಮುಂಬೈ ಮತ್ತು ಚೆನ್ನೈ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ 5 ನಗರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾದೇಶಿಕ ಸೈಕ್ಲೋಥಾನ್ಗಳನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಸಾರ್ಕೋಮಾವು ಮೃದು ಅಂಗಾಂಶಗಳು ಅಥವಾ ಮೂಳೆಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರುವ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದೆ. ಹದಿಹರೆಯದವರ ಮರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂಳೆ ಸಾರ್ಕೋಮಾಗಳು ಮೂರನೇ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಕಾರಣವಾಗಿದೆ. ಸರ್ಕೋಮಾ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ, ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ನ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಅಪಾಯದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಭವಿಷ್ಯವನ್ನು ಉಜ್ವಲಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಆರೋಗ್ಯಕರ ಜೀವನಶೈಲಿಯ ಅಗತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಸೈಕ್ಲೋಥಾನ್ ಉತ್ತೇಜಿಸಲಿದೆ. ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವಿಸ್ಮೃತ ಕಾಯಿಲೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಾರ್ಕಿಕತೆಯ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ವಿಷಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಚರ್ಚಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.
ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಅಪೋಲೋ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಸೆಂಟರ್ನ ಆರ್ತ್ರೋಪೆಡಿಕ್ ಆಂಕೊ ಸರ್ಜನ್ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥ ಡಾ.ಶ್ರೀಮಂತ್ ಬಿ ಎಸ್ ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಾ, “ಮೂಳೆ ಸಾರ್ಕೋಮಾಗಳು ಅಪರೂಪ ಕಾಯಿಲೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಅದು ವಯಸ್ಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 1-2 % ರಷ್ಟಾಗಿದರೆ, ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 20 % ಅಥವಾ ಅದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚಿನ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡುಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಇವುಗಳನ್ನು ಕ್ಷಿಪ್ರವಾಗಿ ಗುರುತಿಸುವುದು, ತ್ವರಿತ ಬಹು-ಶಿಸ್ತಿನ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿ ಆ ಮೂಲಕ ಅಂಗಾಗಳನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸುವುದು ಅತಿಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಂದು, ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸಾ ಪರಿಣತಿ, ಸಹಾಯಕ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಮತ್ತು ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಪ್ರಗತಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ, ಇದು ಒಬ್ಬರ ಅಂಗವನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸುವುದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೇ ಅವರ ಹವ್ಯಾಸ ಅಥವಾ ಕ್ರೀಡೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಅವರು ಇಷ್ಟಪಡುವದನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಪರಿಹಾರವನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.” ಎಂದು ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಪಟ್ಟರು.

ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಖಾಯಿಲೆಯನ್ನು ಗೆದ್ದ ಶ್ರೀ ಪ್ರಶಾಂತ್ ತಮ್ಮ ನೋಟವನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾ, “ನನ್ನ ಕಾಲು ಉಳಿಸಿದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ಕೃತಜ್ಞನಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನದಲ್ಲಿ 97% ಅಂಕಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಉತ್ತೀರ್ಣನಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಬೋಧನಾ ವೃತ್ತಿಗೆ ಮರಳಲು ಬಯಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಇತರ ವಿಜೇತರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸವಾರಿ ಮಾಡುವ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವು ನಮ್ಮ ಶಕ್ತಿ, ಅಗ್ನಿಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಇತರರಿಂದ ಸಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕತೆಯನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ನನಗೆ ಅವಕಾಶ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿತು. ಮತ್ತು ಹೌದು, ನಾನು ಮತ್ತೆ ಸೈಕಲ್ ಸವಾರಿ ಮಾಡಲು ಉತ್ಸುಕನಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ, ಮೋಟರ್ಬೈಕ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ಜೀವನ ಏನೆಂಬುದನ್ನು ಅನ್ವೇಷಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ”. ಎಂದು ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಪಟ್ಟರು.

BENGALURU / July 30, 2022: Out of 3,500 healthy people who underwent preventive health screening in the last 12 months at NURA, a collaboration between Fujifilm Healthcare and Dr Kutty’s Healthcare offering AI-enabled imaging at Bengaluru, about 4-5% were found with suspicious anomalies in the lungs that should be investigated by a pulmonologist to rule out lung cancer.
Said Dr. Tausif Ahmed Thangalvadi, Medical Director, NURA, Bengaluru: “In many cases, these anomalies, though small, can grow into cancer in a few years. Lung cancer is the most fatal cancer in the world, causing much higher number of deaths than any other cancer. Detection in early stages can enormously increase survival chances of patients. In Japan, where health screening begins at an early age, lung cancer survival rate is 33%, compared to only 4% in India, as per data from OECD.”
About 18 lakh people die of lung cancer every year worldwide, even as 22 lakh new cases are detected. In India, lung cancer constitutes 6.9% of all new cancer cases and 9.3% of all cancer-related deaths in both sexes. The incidence is highest between the ages of 55-70 years, with incidence in males 4.5 times higher than in females.
Said Dr. Tausif Ahmed Thangalvadi: “Smoking is number one cause linked to lung cancer. Tobacco contains at least 69 cancer-causing agents. Other factors include occupational exposure to cancer-causing chemicals like asbestos and radon, indoor burning of coal, lung infections and a family history of lung cancer. Also, cancer in any other part of the body can quickly spread to the lungs.”
Saving lives from lung cancer depends on early detection, according to Dr. Tausif Ahmed Thangalvadi: He said: “Screening is the best preventive measure for lung cancer, which is a silent disease. It starts vey small when it is easy to treat. However, by the time symptoms appear such as coughing and breathlessness, the cancer is already big and tough to treat. In advanced stages, lung cancer tends to spread to various other organs, drastically reducing chances of the patient surviving.”
Detection rate of lung cancer is poor in India, with 7 out of every 10 patients succumbing to the disease. Said Dr. Tausif Ahmed Thangalvadi: “Various reasons can be attributed for low detection rates. Symptoms do not appear in early stages of lung cancer. It is difficult for primary healthcare personnel to detect the disease. There is no culture of regular health screening. Even if people get themselves screened, regular X-ray is not sufficient for detection at early stages. A CT scan is required, which is much better at finding small abnormalities in the lungs.”
The global trend, such as in US and France, is to use ultra-low-dose (ULD) CT scan to reduce exposure to radiation. ULD CT uses up to 97% lower dose of radiation than a normal chest CT scan, which is almost equivalent to a routine X-ray. Said Dr. Tausif Ahmed Thangalvadi: “A plain CT scan uses 10-15 mSv of radiation. What is now advised is a low-dose CT scan that emits only 2.5 mSv of radiation. We at NURA use ULD CT scan that uses only 0.2 mSv radiation for lung screening and 0.8 mSv to check for any pre-existing lung damage, as that is a risk factor for lung cancer. This is much less that what is even recommended internationally. With the help of our artificial intelligence technology, we achieve this dose reduction along with enhanced results in terms of accuracy.”
He added: “Though international recommendation is for anyone above 50 years of age to get routinely screened for lung cancer, we are seeing cases in even younger patients. It therefore makes sense to get yourself screened sooner than later, starting at the age of 35-40. It is better to be safe than sorry.”

Since 1997, the ICU team of Manipal Hospitals, Old Airport Road, has provided treatment to 35,000 patients with utmost care. With the increase in critical cases among the younger and older population segments, the demand for ICU rooms has increased exponentially. Lifestyle changes, COVID virus, and severe infections are causing acute illness among the younger population. The demand for ICU admissions reached its peak during the second COVID wave, and the majority of the cases were seen among the younger population. In Manipal, there are two types of Anterooms used to treat critically ill patients. These are termed Positive and Negative pressure ICU. In the negative pressure ICU or isolation rooms, the air handling unit sucks contaminated air from the room, filters it, and is pushed out into the atmosphere. Patients suffering from COVID or respiratory illnesses are given appropriate medication and care in this room. In the positive pressure ICU, fresh and filtered air from outside is blown into the room. This room is designed to treat post-transplant patients who are under immunosuppressants and need constant monitoring of their vitals to avoid any infection.
Dr. Ajith Kumar A K, Senior Consultant & HOD – Critical Care Medicine, Manipal Hospitals, Sarjapur, said, “The department has always been agile in making decisions when it comes to saving lives. We, at Manipal Hospitals, have gone beyond the walls to shorten the distance to provide advanced care to patients with the help of Airlift ICU and green corridors.
“Airlift transfers require a team that is qualified to enable smooth transfer of patients from one region to another. The plane has a suitable monitoring system to keep a close eye on the patient’s vital signs, such as heart rate, pulse, and oxygen saturation.”

These scoring systems takes into account the physiological scores of the patients into statistical algorithms that provides a single score. These scores help the clinical experts to predict how a patient’s condition will progress or how they will react to certain clinical interventions.”
