Put a stop to unnecessary hysterectomies, say doctors

BENGALURU / May 28, 2022: While hysterectomies have seen a reduction in Western countries with doctors favouring more conservative approaches, in India these have become the second most common procedure performed by obstetricians and gynaecologists after the caesarean section. The number of hysterectomies done in India continues to rise despite there being no concrete reason for conducting the procedure. Women are getting their uterus removed even in cases where the organ can be saved by other medical options. A significant number of hysterectomies done in India are unnecessary and may even be unethical. This was said by Dr. Vidya V Bhat, Medical Director, RadhaKrishna Multispecialty Hospital, Bengaluru, ahead of the International Day of Action for Women’s Health. 

Said Dr. Vidya V Bhat: “About 70% of hysterectomies in India are conducted in the private sector, with much higher rates in the less educated and rural population. More and more women in the country are getting hysterectomies at a younger age, many of them being in their twenties. This is very concerning. In Karnataka, a study has found that nearly 50% of women who had undergone hysterectomy were less than 35 years of age. In Gujarat, the incidence of hysterectomy is 20.7 per 1,000 women years, which is four times higher than in countries like USA and Germany.” 

Dr. Vidya V Bhat added: “There are many reasons for unindicated hysterectomy, including patient-related factors like menstrual taboos, lack of social and financial security, lack of knowledge, and lack of access to primary healthcare. Many women regard reproduction as the sole function of the uterus and are easily convinced that hysterectomy is a permanent solution if they are not using any form of contraception. They do not realize that hysterectomy has serious health implications. The abnormal rise in the incidence of hysterectomy shows that we as society are failing in improving women’s health.”

Hysterectomy is not without side effects, with younger patients bearing the brunt. Said Dr. Vidya V Bhat: “Hysterectomised women see their ovarian reserve go down, which in turn causes skin dryness and decreased sexual desire. The surgery is often accompanied by removal of ovaries to reduce the risk of ovarian cancer. There may be vaginal burning, increased urinary frequency and early onset of menopause. Women who have undergone hysterectomy tend to have increased incidence of heart disease and may also show symptoms of osteoporosis at an early age.”

Women, mostly from poor socio-economic backgrounds, are often coaxed into hysterectomy with the fear of cancer. In many instances, it is inappropriately recommended as the first line of treatment for minor gynaecological issues that may not directly be related to the uterus, such as lower abdominal pain, back ache or white discharge. Early marriage, closely spaced childbearing and early hysterectomy is a road map followed by many Indian women during their reproductive years. 

Said Dr. Vidya V Bhat: Many alternative methods of treatment to hysterectomy today exist, including oral remedies, hormonal injections for excessive menstrual bleeding, and removal of just the fibroid and not the entire uterus. Regular cervical cancer screening will also help reduce the incidence of hysterectomy. There is a dire need of counselling services for women regarding their reproductive health, the importance of uterus and the medical conditions that necessitate hysterectomy. With the advances in medical science, hysterectomy should be the last resort for a woman, not the first. 

A 2018 Indian government survey found that more than 22,000 Indian women aged 15-49 out of the 700,00 surveyed had undergone a hysterectomy. The fourth National family & Health Survey found that 6% of women in age group of 30-49 years had undergone a hysterectomy in India as a whole. The purpose of hysterectomy is to save women from uterus-related, life-threatening conditions. The procedure should be done above 45 years to decrease its side effects.

ನಮ್ಮ ಭಾರತ ಕೃಷಿ ಆಧಾರಿತ ದೇಶ ಶೇಕಡ 70 ಕ್ಕಿಂತಲೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಜನ ವ್ಯವಸಾಯವನ್ನೇ ಅವಲಂಬಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ . ದಿನೇ ದಿನೇ ರಾಸಾಯನಿಕ ಕೃಷಿಯಿಂದಾಗಿ ಭೂಮಿ ಬರಡಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ . ಇಳುವರಿ ಗಣನೀಯವಾಗಿ ಇಳಿಮುಖವಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ . ಇಳುವರಿಗಾಗಿ ರೈತರು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ರಾಸಾಯನಿಕ ಗೊಬ್ಬರವನ್ನೇ ಅವಲಂಬಿಸಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ರೈತನ ಖರ್ಚು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ , ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಯ ದರಗಳ ಏರು – ಇಳಿತಗಳಿಂದಾಗಿ ಸಾಲದ ಸುಳಿಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿ ಒದ್ದಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ . ಇದನ್ನು ಏದುರಿಸಲಾಗದೆ ಯುವಜನತೆ ನಗರಗಳತ್ತ ವಲಸೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ .

ಈ ನಡುವೆ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ರಸಗೊಬ್ಬರಗಳ ಸಹಾಯಧನವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಲು ಹೊರಟಿದೆ . ಇದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಹೊರೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಹಾಗೂ ರಾಸಾಯನಿಕ ಗೊಬ್ಬರಗಳ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಹಾಲು ಅನ್ನ ಉಂಡಂತಾಗಿದೆ . ರಸಗೊಬ್ಬರ ಸಹಾಯಧನದಿಂದಾಗಿ ದರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳಿಕೆಯಾಗಿ ಒಳಸುರಿಗಳು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ ಇದೆ . ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ ಒಂದು ಎಕರೆ ಕಬ್ಬಿನ ಬೆಳೆಗೆ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಎಂದರೆ 20 ಚೀಲ ರಸಗೊಬ್ಬರವನ್ನು ರೈತ ಇಂದು ಬಳಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ . 20 ಚೀಲಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಾಸರಿ 40,000 / – ದಿಂದ 50,000 / -ರೂಪಾಯಿಗಳು ರೈತರ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳ ಪಾಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ . ಇದರ ಬದಲು ರಸಗೊಬ್ಬರವನ್ನು ಮುಕ್ತ ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಗೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟು , ಸಹಾಯಧನವನ್ನು ರೈತನಿಗೆ ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಕೃಷಿ ಉತ್ಪನ್ನಗಳ ಮಾನದಂಡದ ಆಧಾರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೊಡುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು . ಇದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ರೈತನಿಗೆ ರಸಗೊಬ್ಬರಗಳ ಹೊರೆ ಗೊತ್ತಾಗುತ್ತದೆ . ಇದನ್ನು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಿ ರೈತರ ಈ ದುಬಾರಿ ರಸಗೊಬ್ಬರದ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ನೈರ್ಸಗಿಕ ಕೃಷಿಗೆ ಕ್ರಮೇಣ ಆಕರ್ಷಿತನಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ . ಏಕೆಂದರೆ , ಯಾವುದೇ ಮನುಷ್ಯನಿಗೆ ಸಹಾಯಧನದ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಂತಹ ಹಣವನ್ನು ಬೇಕಾಬಿಟ್ಟಿ ಖರ್ಚು ಮಾಡಲು ಹಿಂಜರಿಯುತ್ತಾನೆ . ಇದು ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಸಹಜ ಗುಣ , ಅವನಿಗೆ ಹಣದ ಮೌಲ್ಯ ಗೊತ್ತು ತನ್ನ ಜೇಬಿನಿಂದ ಹಣ ನಿರುಪಯುಕ್ತವಾಗಿ ಹರಿಯುವುದನ್ನು ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಸಹಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ . ಆಗ ರೈತ ರಸಗೊಬ್ಬರಗಳನ್ನು ಮಿತವಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಲು ಶುರುಮಾಡಿ ಶೂನ್ಯ ಬಂಡವಾಳವಾದ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಕೃಷಿಯತ್ತ ದಿನೇ ದಿನೇ ಆಕರ್ಷಿತನಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ . ಇದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ವಿಷಮುಕ್ತ ಆಹಾರ ಸಿಕ್ಕಂತಾಗುತ್ತದೆ . ಹಾಗೂ ರಸಗೊಬ್ಬರಗಳ ಸಹಾಯಧನ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳ ಪಾಲಾಗದಂತೆ ದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಉಳದು ವಿದೇಶಿ ವಿನಿಮಯ ಉಳಿದಂತಾಗುತ್ತದೆ . ಇದೇ ಹಣವನ್ನು ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಕೃಷಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿ ಬೇಕಾದಂತಹ ದೇಶಿತಳಿ ಗೋವುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ರೈತನಿಗೆ ಸಹಾಯಧನವಾಗಿ ಕೊಡಬಹುದು ಹಾಗೂ ಗೋಶಾಲೆಗಳ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ ಬಳಸಬಹುದು . ಎಲ್ಲಿ ದೇಶಿ ಗೋವುಗಳ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗುವುದೋ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಪರಿಸರ , ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಗಾಳಿ ಮತ್ತು ಆರೋಗ್ಯಕರ ಸಮಾಜ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ . ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಕಳೆದ 20 ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ನಮ್ಮ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾವಿರಾರು ರೈತರು ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಕೃಷಿಯಿಂದ ಭತ್ತ , ಕಬ್ಬು , ಬಾಳೆ , ರಾಗಿ ಹಾಗೂ ತೋಟಗಾರಿಕಾ ಬೆಳೆಗಳು , ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯ ಬೆಳೆಗಳು ಹೀಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ತರಹದ ಕೃಷಿ ಉತ್ಪನ್ನಗಳಿಗೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ರಸಗೊಬ್ಬರ , ಕಳೆನಾಶಕ , ಕೀಟನಾಶಕಗಳನ್ನು ಬಳಸದ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಇಳುವರಿಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ . ಇಂತಹ ರೈತರಿಗೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರದಿಂದ ಯಾವುದೇ ಸಹಾಯ ಸಹಕಾರ ಸಿಗುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ . ಆ ರೈತರನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಿ ಸಹಾಯಧನವನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟರೆ ಬಹಳ ಅನುಕೂಲವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ . ಇದನ್ನು ಹಲವಾರು ರೈತರು ಗುರುತಿಸಿ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಕೃಷಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ .

ಭಾರತೀಯ ಕಿಸಾನ್ ಸಂಘವು ದೇಶದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ ಹಾಗೂ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕು ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಸದೃಢವಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ . ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಗ್ರಾಮಸಮಿತಿಗಳ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ದೇಶದ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಹಳ್ಳಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ . ಸ್ವಾವಲಂಬ ರೈತ , ಸಮೃದಗ್ರಾಮ , ಸಮರ್ಥ ಭಾರತ ಎಂಬ ದ್ವೇಯೋದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಕಾರ್ಯೋನ್ಮುಖವಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ . ರೈತ ಸ್ವಾವಲಂಬಿಯಾದರೆ ಗ್ರಾಮ ಸದೃಢವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ . ಗ್ರಾಮ ಸದೃಢವಾದರೆ ದೇಶ ಸಮರ್ಥವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ . ಭಾರತ ಹಳ್ಳಿಗಳ ದೇಶ ಆದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅರಿವು ಮೂಡಿಸಲು ದಿನಾಂಕ : 21-05-2022 ಈ ದಿನ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಕಿಸಾನ್ ಸಂಘ , ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯವು ರೈತರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅಪಾರ ಕಾಳಜಿ ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ತಮ್ಮಂತಹ ಮಾದ್ಯಮ ಮಿತ್ರರ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಕಣ್ಣು ತೆರೆಸಲು ಈ ಪತ್ರಿಕಾಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ . ಸಂವಿಧಾನದ ಮೂರನೇ ಕಣ್ಣಾದ ಮಾದ್ಯಮ ಇಂದು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸಮರ್ಥವಾಗಿದೆ . ಕೃಷಿ ಉಳಿವಿಗಾಗಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಸಹಕಾರ ಅತ್ಯಗತ್ಯ . ದಯವಿಟ್ಟು ಇದನ್ನು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಕಣ್ಣ ತೆರೆಸಲು ವಿನಂತಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎಂದು ಹಾಡ್ಯ ರಮೇಶ್‌ರಾಜು,ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಕೃಷಿಕರು . ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಪ್ರಾಂತ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿ ಪತ್ರಿಕಾ ಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು

*ರಾಜ್ಯಾದ್ಯಂತ 10 ಸಾವಿರಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಪಟುಗಳು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ . * ರಾಜ್ಯ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಕೂಟಕ್ಕೆ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾಗಿ ಆನ್‌ಲೈನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಂದಾಯಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಪಟುಗಳಿಗೆ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದ ಟ್ರಾಕ್ಟ್ ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ಯಾಪ್ ನೀಡಲಾಗುವುದು . *ಉದ್ಘಾಟನಾ ಸಮಾರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳು ಕೆ.ಜಿ.ಐ.ಡಿ. ಇಲಾಖೆಯ Online ಸೇವೆ ಯೋಜನೆ ಹಾಗೂ SMS ಮೂಲಕ ನೌಕರರ ಮಾಸಿಕ ವೇತನ ಭತ್ಯೆಗಳ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಯೋಜನೆಯನ್ನು ಲೋಕಾರ್ಪಣೆ ಮಾಡಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ . * ದಿನಾಂಕ 30-05-2022 ರಂದು ಸಂಜೆ 7.00 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ ಖ್ಯಾತ ಗಾಯಕರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ವಿಜಯ್ ಪ್ರಕಾಶ್‌ರವರಿಂದ ‘ ಸಂಗೀತ ರಸ ಸಂಜೆ ‘ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ನಡೆಯಲಿದೆ . *ದಿನಾಂಕ : 31-05-2022 ರಂದು ಸಂಜೆ 7.00 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಸಹಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿ 15 ಜಾನಪದ ಕಲಾ ತಂಡಗಳಿಂದ ‘ ಜನಪದೋತ್ಸವ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ನಡೆಯಲಿದೆ .* ರಾಜ್ಯ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಕ್ರೀಡೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಜೇತರಾದವರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಪತ್ರ ಹಾಗೂ ಟ್ರೋಫಿ ನೀಡಲಾಗುವುದು . * ದಿನಾಂಕ : 30-05-2022 ರಿಂದ 01-06-2022ರವರೆಗೆ ಮೂರು ದಿನಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಪಟುಗಳಿಗೆ ರುಚಿ – ಶುಚಿಯಾದ ಊಟೋಪಹಾರ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ .

ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಮಟ್ಟದಿಂದ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಕೂಟಕ್ಕೆ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾಗಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಸಂಘದ Online ನೋಂದಣಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಪಟುಗಳು ಕ್ರೀಡಾಕೂಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಸಂಘವು ಮನವಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಸಿ.ಎಸ್.ಷಡಾಕ್ಟರಿ, ರಾಜ್ಯಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರು ಪತ್ರಿಕಾ ಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು

“All – India Invitation Kho – Kho Tournament” starts first time for Men from 2nd to 5th June 2022

Karnataka State Association’s affiliated unit Kyathanahalli Kreeda Okkuta is organizing All – India Invitation Kho – Kho Tournament first time for Men from 2nd to 5th June 2022 , in memory of its founder patron late.Sri K.S.Puttannaiah a renowned farmer’s leader and ex MLA . Melukote constituency . The club was formed during 1994 by K.S.Puttannaiah , who was also a Kabaddi player and patronized the club in development of many other sports activities like Athletics . Tennicoit . and Ball badminton . Due to his keen interest & efforts . Many players excelled in National level & secured awards in National Kho – Kho like ” JANAKI ” . ” ILA ” . ” JHANSI RANI ” and also ” EKALAVYA award of the state government .

The Kyathanahally Kreeda Okkuta is a unique club in the state as it has its own building with facilities for Office and dormitories for conduct of coaching camps and seminars etc. Considering the facts . the Dept. of Youth Empowerment & Sports has affiliated the club and extending all the facilities in development of sports in the district . After the demise of Sri K.S.Puttannaiah . his son Darshan.P has shouldered the responsibility of development of sports especially , Indigenous game Kho – Kho .

The club had successfully organized the Senior South Zone Championships during 2011 where both Men & Women teams of Karnataka were the Champions .

Additional details of the tournament is as under: Participating teams : 10 teams viz . , KSKKA & PRESIDENT teams of Karnataka . Western Railway . Central Railway , South Central Railway , Maharastra State Police . Maharastra State Electricity Board . Mahanagar Palike Mumbai ,Navi Mumbai also Mumbai police and Reserve bank of india.

Venue : Vishveswaraiah Stadium . Kyathanahalli . Pandavapura Tq . Mandya Dist ( with Flood – lit ) .

No.of Participants : 250 including Officials . Boarding & Lodging : Well furnished lodging in hotels at Pandavapura and SR Patna . North & South indian food will be arranged .

Mode of play : League – cum – Knockout basis as per the rules of Kho Kho Federation of India on kho kho Mat surface &

Prizes : 1 Place = Rs.100.000 / – 2 Place -Rs.50.000 / – 3rd Place Rs.30.000 / 4th Place – Rs.20000 with attractive Trophies .

Best Players : BestChaser . Best Defender & Best All rounder Rs.5000 each Plus Memento
