Vespa celebrates Mother’s Day with the stories of contemporary mothers of India

10th May 2022, : On account of Mother’s Day this year, Piaggio vehicles Pvt Ltd a 100 % subsidiary of the Italian Piaggio Group, and manufacturer of the emblematic 2-wheelers Vespa and Aprilia celebrated India’s contemporary mothers from different parts of the country who have played a motherly role in their facets of life.
With the belief that the spirit of motherhood goes beyond the stereotypical poetic image of a mother with her child, Vespa strongly believes that the embodiment of motherhood goes beyond genders, age or forms. To be able to honor and bring about their stories, Vespa collaborated with two such unique mothers who have inspired many with their own definition of motherhood.
The pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on the lives of many near and dear ones. People across the globe witnessed a massive change in their lives – both personally & professionally. During this turn of unfortunate events, Mahima Bhalotia from Mumbai was one of the many people who found themselves out of a corporate job. This gave her an opportunity to spend more time at home with her loved ones, and with that, she understood how her father needed her for the most basic tasks such as placing online orders or starting a video call. Mahima realized that just like her father, there are so many aged individuals who would need help with the most mundane basic tasks that are needed to go about life seamlessly. This realization gave birth to a new-age school & initiative by our unique mother Mahima called “The Social Paathshala”. The idea behind this was to have people above the age of 50 learn how to navigate around technology by starting video calls, sending WhatsApp locations, booking cabs, creating Facebook accounts to stay in touch, shopping online and so much more. Social Paathshala has helped more than 2000 people coming from diverse background like defense, medical, finance etc.

This collaboration with Vespa brings about Mahima’s story of bravery, compassion and kindness where she has made the lives of so many people hassle-free by spreading her knowledge of technology with those who need it most.
Another such inspiring tale is of our present-day mom Archie Sen from Ranchi. A young girl in her mid-twenties, Archie realized that during the pandemic with restrictions, curfews and limited movement of people, stray dogs were devoid of even the most basic form of nourishment. She took it upon herself to deworm, feed and vaccinate the dogs in and around her area to keep them healthy and safe from any diseases. Along with that, our inspiring mom-warrior also organized fundraisers and adoption drives to help the strays in need. While narrating this story on the Vespa lent to her for a day, Archie mentioned taking a puppy to a nearby clinic for treatment. This form of selfless motherly love displayed by Archie showcases that we have moved beyond the old-age notion of what a mother’s love is.
Below mentioned are the social media handles of Vespa India. The videos will be LIVE tomorrow, 8th May at 12 noon.

DKMS celebrates 100,000 second chances at life

Providing hope for blood cancer and blood disorder patients worldwide in need of a lifesaving stem cell transplant

Bangalore, May 10, 2022 – Today, DKMS celebrates a significant milestone of saving 100,000 lives of blood cancer and other blood disorder patients globally by giving them a second chance at life. The organization works in the areas of blood cancer and other blood disorders by raising awareness, registering potential blood stem cell donors, and helping patients in need for blood stem cell transplant get matching donors. DKMS is an international nonprofit organization, headquartered in Tübingen, Germany. It has a global presence with entities in India, US, UK, Chile, Poland, and South Africa.

In India, it operates as DKMS BMST Foundation India, which is a joint venture with BMST (Bangalore Medical Services Trust). DKMS-BMST was officially launched on 28th May 2019 with a mission to give every blood cancer and blood disorder patient in need with a second chance at life. Since its launch, DKMS-BMST has organized over 1300 donor registration events across various organisations such as corporates, educational institutes, hospitals and defence forces to spread awareness about blood stem cell donation and enrol more potential donors. So far, DKMS-BMST has successfully registered over 60,000 potential blood stem cell donors from India and provided 58 patients with a second chance at life.

Patrick Paul, CEO, DKMS BMST Foundation India, “Every 5 minutes, someone in India is diagnosed with blood cancer or other blood disorders, with over 100,000 people being diagnosed every year is a major health challenge for the country.  At present, India does not have a sufficiently large registry of adult donors. Increasing the number of Indian donors in the database will add to the data pool of HLA diversity thus, it will improve the likelihood of a suitable match. Today, the likelyhood of a patient finding a matchig donor is 1 in a million, but with more awareness and more and more people coming forward to register as potential blood stem cell donors, the odds can be substantially improved and patients will have better chances of finding a matching blood stem cell donor.“

The global milestone 100,000 second chances in life is very significant for DKMS. This is far from being just a number or a benchmark, DKMS takes pride in every single second chance at life. Each one of them represents a personal story of faith and hope, of both young and old, of their families and friends, stories of shattering sadness and fear, and stories of overwhelming joy as well as another 100,000 proud donor stories.

DKMS support programs for patients from low- and middle-income countries

To improve the situation of patients in low-and middle-income countries, DKMS has also expanded its efforts to increase the access to transplantation. “If we want to prevent families from suffering the loss of a loved one, we need to help, where help is needed! For the second chance at life, we cross borders, collaborate globally and leave no stone unturned to help patients. Every patient with blood cancer or a life-threatening blood disease deserves that chance. Thus, we have established several support programs to increase the access to transplantation for patients living in emerging countries,” highlights Dr. Elke Neujahr, Global CEO, DKMS.

Ethnic diversity saves lives

100,000 second chances at life is also an impressive achievement that only becomes more impressive, when considering that it took DKMS 24 years to reach 50,000 second chance at life in 2015. Within just seven years the organization has now doubled that number. DKMS was only able to accomplish this so quickly because the organization expanded its footprint and is now active in seven countries on five continents. Every day, 21 DKMS donors from Germany, the USA, Poland, the UK, Chile, South Africa, and India, where DKMS operates together with BMST, donate blood stem cells for patients all over the world. Blood stem cell donations from DKMS donors haven given people in 57 countries a second chance at life.

One crucial factor in the success of a blood stem cell transplant is the degree of match between the tissue characteristics of donor and patient. Since tissue characteristics vary according to both genetics and region, the organization is doing everything possible to register as many donors of different ethnicities and nationalities as possible. Having a genetically diverse database of donors is necessary to ensure that all patients have the chance to find their match. “We thus continue to work on our expansion, as well as forming crucial partnerships across the world. We will not stop until every patient, regardless of where they live, is able to find the lifesaver they need,” says Dr. Elke Neujahr.

There are stories of blood cancer survivors like 15-year-old Maheer, from Ahmedabad. Maheer had acute leukemia when he was 6-year-old and his life depended on a stem cell donation. Nine years later he got his stem cells from his lifesaver Dr. Sita from Germany. He describes his transplant: “At that time I was very young, so I didn’t know what was happening, or why. There was so much anxiety, and my parents were so worried.  Everyone was tense, worrying constantly and crying. I didn’t understand the situation at that time, but I knew something was wrong, as my father kept on motivating me. He said there was an issue with my blood but that it would all be sorted.  After the transplant, everyone felt much happier. Not everyone is so fortunate. Many patients and their relatives are waiting in vain for help. My appeal is therefore: Please get registered.”

Stories like Maheers’, along with all the other stories of the 100,000 second chances at life, are a powerful reminder of the impact the organization’s work has on patients, their families and friends.

“In 1991 we founded DKMS in honor of my mother, who suffered from leukemia, and her legacy which inspires us until today: that every patient in need of a blood stem cell transplant finds a matching donor who can give them a second chance at life. In the past 31 years we have worked tirelessly to make this vision come true. We are proud to announce that this year we have reached an incredible milestone: DKMS donors have provided 100,000 second chances at life to patients all over the world. It is my big dream that every patient has that chance and that other families do not have to feel the devastating pain of losing a loved one,” says Katharina Harf, Chairwoman of the DKMS Foundation Board.

The work of registering donors and facilitating transplants is inherently a team effort and every life saved is due to the collaboration, dedication, and passion of every single individual involved along the way: Every donor who has given a patient a second chance, every one of the 11 million potential donors who are registered with DKMS and provide hope to patients in need, and the countless volunteers who are dedicated to creating a world without blood cancer. “We also honor all patients and their families and friends as well as all physicians and nurses, who take the best possible care of patients and who are such an essential part of this process. Only together we can make a big impact in the lives of patients across the globe,” says Dr. Elke Neujahr.

Register as a lifesaver today

Reaching 100,000 second chances at life is an incredible accomplishment. However, the organization’s work will not be done until every patient in need of a transplant gets that second chance. With that in mind DKMS wants to encourage the public to become part of its lifesaving movement by registering as a potential lifesaver today. “It is my vision for DKMS that we will have 20 million donors registered with us and that we will be active in 20 countries by 2030 to celebrate 200,000 second chance at life,” Neujahr says in conclusion.

Healthy individuals between the age-group of 18-50 can register as a potential lifesaver at: dkms-bmst.org/register

Mumbai, May 9, 2022  – Think opulence, think the good life, think taste, think motorsports, and you have to think of Monte Carlo in Monaco, Europe. Monte Carlo is steeped in glamour and glory for over a century now. The Czech car manufacturer began its successful motorsport involvement, which has included numerous victories at the famous Monte Carlo Rally over this long period. Laurin & Klement vehicles were entered in the second run of the rally classic in 1912, and in 1936 a model with the Winged Arrow was on the start line for the first time at the legendary competition. The POPULAR SPORT roadster finished in second place in the under-1.5-litre class.

It is to celebrate this success at the legendary ‘Queen of Rallies’ in particular and the World Rally Championships ever since that ŠKODA AUTO debuted the Monte Carlo edition. In an ode to ŠKODA’s rally and motorsport pedigree and the success of INDIA 2.0, ŠKODA AUTO India introduces the new KUSHAQ Monte Carlo range that will dazzle with sporty black design elements.

Commenting on the introduction of the new ŠKODA KUSHAQ Monte Carlo, Mr. Zac Hollis, Brand Director, ŠKODA AUTO India said, “With our recent successes and our biggest ever month in India, it was only apt that we celebrated with a badge that embodies the Spirit of Victory at ŠKODA. The Monte Carlo is a car that appeals to the heart, to one willing to go the extra mile for the unique, subtle and sporty aesthetics. The Monte Carlo highlights a discrete sense of style. It is homage to the fact that you are driving a name soaked in pedigree and legacy of rally sport, providing a thrilling experience.”

The KUSHAQ Monte Carlo will be introduced at an ex-showroom price of INR 15,99,000  lacs for the 1.0 TSI 6-speed manual, topping out at INR 19,49,000  lacs for the 1.5 TSI 7-speed DSG. This edition of the KUSHAQ will be available exclusively in Tornado Red and Candy White  colours. Moreover, the 1.0 TSI of the KUSHAQ Monte Carlo is standard with Start-Stop Recuperation that improves fuel efficiency.

GET THE LOOK THAT MATTERS

In the KUSHAQ Monte Carlo, the ŠKODA Signature Grille is adorned with a Glossy Black Surround. As are the ORVMs that are also Glossy Black. The wheels are R17 Dual-tone Vega 43.18 cms alloys that directly descend from the OCTAVIA vRS 245, the fastest-ever production ŠKODA. This new KUSHAQ now has a Monte Carlo Fender Garnish in place of the ŠKODA badge. While the body colour offers a choice of Tornado Red and Candy White, the roof comes in contrasting glossy Carbon Steel paint lending the Monte Carlo with a prominent dual tone aesthetic. The roof comes standard with an Electric Sunroof with Anti-pinch Technology. The Carbon Steel roof complements the Matte Black Roof Rails running along the edge and the dark chrome external door handles below.

The roof ends where the Dual Tone Tailgate Spoiler begins. Further below at the rear is a trunk garnish at the door of the boot and a diffuser beneath the rear bumper, both in Glossy Black, accentuating the pace and glamour of the KUSHAQ Monte Carlo. This is balanced with a Glossy Black Diffuser at the front of the Monte Carlo as well. The chrome ŠKODA and KUSHAQ inscriptions at the rear are now Glossy Black. As are the L-Shaped surrounds for the air vents in the front bumper.

In the first ever visual differentiator between the 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI engines, the KUSHAQ Monte Carlo 1.5 TSI will have Sporty Red calipers in the front wheels making it stand out from its 1.0 TSI stablemate.

RALLY-BRED INTERIORS WITH NEW VIRTUAL COCKPIT

The cabin of the KUSHAQ Monte Carlo carries forward the motorsport heritage through the Luxe Interiors with Red and Black Dual-tone Upholstery and Ruby Red Metallic inserts. This décor further enhances the aesthetics, sportiness and the sense of space inside the KUSHAQ Monte Carlo. The Ruby Red Metallic inserts tastefully adorn the width of the dashboard gracefully flowing down the centre console and continue onward to the front doors. The front has Ventilated Red and Black Leather seats with ‘MONTE CARLO’ inscribed in the headrests. The rear hosts Red and Black leatherette seats with ‘MONTE CARLO’ inscriptions in two of the headrests continuing in the same vein.  Other surfaces that the driver and passenger regularly interact with, like the door armrests and the one at the centre in the front has red stitching in them. The leather wrap on the 2-spoke Mutli-function Steering, the part the driver will spend the maximum time interacting with, also gets prominent, delectable red stitching on it. Red ambient lighting at the front passenger dashboard provides a warm red aura to the cabin in the KUSHAQ Monte Carlo.

The driver’s instrument console gets a 20.32 cm ŠKODA Virtual Cockpit with a red theme. The centre of the dashboard plays host to a 25.4cm Infotainment System with ŠKODA Play Apps and a red theme. Accelerating, braking and clutch duties are handled by beautiful and extra grippy Alu Pedals. And the minute you open the door, tasteful Monte Carlo Inscribed Scuff Plates on the door sills welcome you into the cabin.

The all new Monte Carlo edition of the KUSHAQ reflects ŠKODA’s victories in Monte Carlo and the KUSHAQ’s contribution to ŠKODA AUTO India’s tremendous growth and success in 2022. The KUSHAQ is the torchbearer of the company’s INDIA 2.0 Project leading the record-breaking first quarter in India. It was only fitting that the leading light of this success receives a badge that represents the Spirit of Victory at ŠKODA.

Price Summary: KUSHAQ Monte Carlo
